Some say not to have any mirrors facing your bed. There’s much to be learned when it comes to the history of mirrors, which explains the existence of haunted mirrors and magic mirrors. Can a mirror be haunted? Can mirrors be magical? Let’s find out… Magic Mirror History The mirror as we know it today was invented in 1835 by Von Liebig and is technically the “silver-glassed mirror”, but mirrors made of various stones and other elements date back to at least 6000 B.C. Mirrors in ancient times were made of precious metals or stones including: obsidian, copper, bronze, and iron. But what did the women do when they couldn’t afford such a luxury? Water was poured into a bowl and used as a looking-glass. The History of Magic Mirrors Mirrors are directly linked to the element water, because as previously mentioned, water served as the original mirror. Because mirrors are akin to water, and water is a conduit for the spirit world, mirrors can also be conduits for spirits. Water reflected our images back at us, which to the prehistoric human being would have been magic in and of itself. Mirrors of the Gods In Ancient Greece, magic mirrors featured in myths. The story of Narcissus tells of a god looking into a mirror and falling in love with his own reflection. Archimedes used a mirror in warfare to set ships ablaze in 212 B.C. The ancient Egyptians made mirrors of copper. A few of the preserved mirrors from ancient Egypt are adorned with the image of the goddess Hathor. And therefore were associated with sexuality and rebirth. The Anatolians (Turkey) made their first mirrors out of volcanic black rock called Obsidian. Mirrors found from this time date to 6000 B.C. Haunted Mirrors Mirrors can be portals to the other side, so it’s no wonder there are many stories of haunted mirrors. The horror movie Oculus goes into the gory details of a mirror so haunted it takes human lives. But haunted mirrors are not a new concept. The Haunted Mirror at Myrtles Plantation On the Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana, there are three souls trapped in a magic mirror. Legend has it after the woman of the house and two of her children were poisoned to death, the mirror wasn’t covered with a cloth and their souls were trapped inside. Their images and even handprints appear on the mirror often, nearly frightening groundskeepers and visitors to death. A Haunted Mirror on EBay? In February of 2013, a reportedly haunted mirror in England was auctioned off on EBay for $155. The sellers had acquired an antique haunted mirror by saving it from the dumpster outside their home. They claimed their landlord had thrown it out and once they brought it inside, they experienced bouts of bad luck. Bad financial problems and illness consumed their lives until they decided to get rid it. In addition, they saw shadows and experienced feelings of doom while around this haunted mirror. They sold it on EBay and haven’t had problems since. Magic Mirrors in Fairy Tales Do we see ourselves staring back at us in the mirror or do we see someone else entirely? Lewis Carroll’s classic story “Through the Looking Glass” paints a terrifying picture of a girl named Alice who walks into another world by walking through a mirror. She finds an alternative dimension on the other side of the looking glass, full of monsters and surreal beings. She realizes our reflections aren’t always truthful. Snow White & Vampires One of our most popular fairy tales, Snow White, tells of an Evil Queen who consults her magic mirror when she has a question. Usually the question is in direct relation to her vanity, and she finds the mirror will never lie. This depiction of a magic mirror reflects (pun intended) the ancient divination technique “scrying” (“seeing”). Vampires have no soul and cannot see their own reflection in the mirror. It’s said if you place a mirror in the doorway, it will keep vampires away. Haunted Mirror Superstitions Who hasn’t played Bloody Mary game at a sleep-over? The steps to take vary from person to person, but generally what one would do is go into a bathroom and turn off the lights, say “Bloody Mary” three times or more. Then when the lights are turned back on, the ghost of Bloody Mary is supposed to appear in the mirror. 7 Years of Bad Luck & Covering Mirrors If you shatter a mirror, you will have seven years of bad luck in any and all matters of life – love, money, health, etc. This belief dates back to Romans who believed the soul regenerated itself within seven years. And, well, if a mirror reflects one’s soul back it only makes sense why a shattered mirror causes harm. After a death in the family, some Irish and American families cover the mirrors in the house for fear the newly-departed soul would be trapped in the mirror (thereby creating haunted mirrors). If you watch the clip directly above, you’ll notice at about two minutes in, when Ruthie dies, the woman covers the mirror with a cloth. Learning Magic Mirror Scrying We can see why magic mirrors are regarded as one of the most powerful items in a person’s home. Today people use mirrors to attain answers to questions, including the future. This practice of gazing into a mirror and acquiring supernatural knowledge is known as mirror scrying. Purchase magic mirrors for scrying online or use your own mirrors at home. You can also make your own black scrying mirror (there are various tutorials online) OR use a piece of black obsidian. Here’s how to start mirror scrying: Have your mirror in hand or in front of you. Turn down the lights and light a candle or use the light of a Full Moon. Relax your […]

Sacred Sites & Pagan Places: Origins and How to Find Ley Lines Near You https://otherworldlyoracle.com/sacred-sites-how-to-find-ley-lines/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sacred-sites-how-to-find-ley-lines&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sacred-sites-how-to-find-ley-lines https://otherworldlyoracle.com/sacred-sites-how-to-find-ley-lines/#comments Mon, 01 Oct 2018 18:53:32 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=1038 Ley lines are defined as being straight tracks or lines across the earth made by man. The ancients were said to have marked these lines with stone monuments and pagan temples. This definition makes sense but doesn’t provide the whole picture of what ley lines truly are. Our ancient ancestors could feel the magic and power emanating from these energy lines and so they marked them for their own spiritual and physical benefit. They set up pagan places and called the intersections of ley lines their sacred sites. But how do these ancient ley lines affect us in modern times? How can we find local ley lines and harness their energy? DISCLOSURE: I may earn a small commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from this website. Your purchase helps support my work in bringing you information about the paranormal and paganism. Sacred Sites of the Ancients: Ley Lines Origins If we look at some of the world’s most important ancient sites on a map, we can draw straight lines between one and another. These lines end up forming a grid-like pattern across the entire globe. Stonehenge, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and Machu Picchu are sacred sites that can be connected on lines to other sites on the globe including natural landmarks like Mount Everest. You won’t find these lines on a geographical map nor in a history book of any kind. Ley lines are mostly recorded in folklore and occult books, the original concept developed by a man named Alfred Watkins in 1921. Watkins believed so strongly in ley lines he organized a club that would gather in England and walk the countryside in search of ley lines and their powerful energy. Corpse Roads, Fairy Paths, and Ley Lines It’s long been known that spirits travel the earth in straight lines – these straight lines could be ley lines. In Britain and other places in Europe, there’s something known as a corpse road. A corpse road was a path taken by a funerary procession to move the dead from his or her place of death to the appropriate church where the funeral would be held. Some rather terrifying stories are told of these corpse roads, including a headless black dog, ghostly lights known as corpse lights, and soul-sucking wraiths. Do these spirits haunt the corpse roads because it was the last place their body traveled or are they drawn to the spiritual energy of ancient ley lines? “Imagine a fairy chain stretched from mountain peak to mountain peak as far as the eye could reach…” ~ Alfred Watkins, The Old Straight Track (1925) Fairies, also known as the “wee folk” and “sidhe”, are known to travel along specified pathways as well. There are many tales in Britain and Ireland that point out fairy pathways into hills and over fairy bridges. These pathways are known as fairy paths and folks are warned not to get caught on a fairy path during twilight hours or at night for fear the fay might carry them away. Are these fairy paths ley lines?  Ley Lines Today: Why Are They Important? So why should we care about ley lines? How do ley lines affect us today? Though it seems an outdated, ancient idea, ley lines affect us in modern times just as much as the past. If you are a believer in vibration and energy, if you believe Mother Earth is a living, breathing being, then you’ll understand why ley lines are important. I like to think of them as open veins of Mother Earth – sacred sites where the earth opens up her energy source to us. If you feel revitalized after taking a dip in the ocean, hiking in the mountains, or dipping your feet into a creek, then you’ll feel the energetic potency of being near or on a ley line.  How to Find Ley Lines Near You I recently went on a quest to find my local ley lines. I had no idea how easy it would be until I began researching. First thing I suggest is to think of your local area and if there are any significant historical landmarks. If you live in Europe, there are literally hundreds. This should be the easy part. If you live in the United States, I recommend looking specifically at Native sacred sites over Colonial sites. The indigenous Americans were more in-tune with nature and knew of the ley lines. The pilgrims most likely did not.  Immediately, I thought of a local Native burial mound located in Safety Harbor, FL. I had a feeling it was built by the Natives on or closeby a ley line. Then, I simply googled “ley line maps + United States” and BOOM. There were dozens of maps accessible online. So I looked up the historical mound on a map of Florida. Then I compared to the ley line map and found a match. One particular ley line that converges with others just off the Eastern coast of Florida also runs directly north of Tampa and straight through the sacred site of the Tocobaga Indian mound in Safety Harbor! I was shocked and thrilled to discover my guess was correct! After finding your local ley lines, it’s time to take a journey to a ley line and confirm. This is a sacred journey and you should prepare as such. Take a cleansing shower or bath before traveling to these sacred sites. You can also smudge yourself beforehand. You want to be as spiritually clean as possible so the energy from the ley lines is easier to sense. Ideally, you’ll take your pendulum with you. Once there, notice how you’re feeling. Do you feel nervous? Excited? Like you’re about to meet up with a friend you haven’t seen in years? This is how I felt when I visited my local ley line. I had butterflies in my stomach that didn’t go away.  You can use your pendulum to dowse and find […]

Haunted Maryland Attractions: Dr. Mudds House, Point Lookout, and More! https://otherworldlyoracle.com/top-haunted-maryland-attractions/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=top-haunted-maryland-attractions&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=top-haunted-maryland-attractions https://otherworldlyoracle.com/top-haunted-maryland-attractions/#comments Thu, 14 Jun 2018 18:01:16 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=338 Haunted Maryland Attractions From the ocean waves lapping on the Eastern Shore to the welcoming Chesapeake Bay running through the state, Maryland is a majestic place. Maryland might not seem like an interesting state to visit, but I beg to differ. In fact, Maryland is one of the most gorgeous and historic states in the US, but it also has a darker side…a haunted side. From the ghosts of Natives to the ghosts of soldiers and everything in between, Maryland is filled with a long history of tragedy. Come with me on a spine-tingling haunted tour the top haunted Maryland attractions: Dr. Mudds House, Sotterley Plantation, Point Lookout Lighthouse, the Hell House, and the Edgar Allan Poe House Baltimore. The Restless Ghosts at Dr. Mudds House Dr. Mudd is Accused The actor John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln. The he jumped from the the theater balcony, broke one of his legs, and ran miles away from the scene and through Zekiah Swamp in Southern Maryland. To the demise of a local Southern Maryland doctor, Dr. Samuel Mudd, John Wilkes Booth stopped at his home to have his leg set. Dr. Mudd was brought to trial for sympathizing with Booth in the plot to assassinate President Lincoln. He was found guilty and went to jail but was pardoned after a number of years serving time. The Ghosts Mudd died of pneumonia in 1883, when he was 49 years old. His home still stands today, and some say it is haunted by ghosts of the past. Ghosts of confederate soldiers and John Wilkes Booth himself are said to haunt Dr. Mudds House. People hear disembodied voices and footsteps. One of the creepiest and saddest stories is that a baby died in one of the rooms upstairs. Visitors of the Mudd home say they experience cold spots around the ghost child’s crib. Shadows are seen in different places throughout Dr. Mudds House, as well as a woman who looks out one of the second floor’s windows. One visitor heard a man’s voice say, “I’m not guilty”. Many other haunting experiences have occurred in Dr. Mudds House and on the surrounding property, making it one of the creepiest haunted Maryland attractions in Southern Maryland. Haunted Sotterley Plantation Sotterley Plantation is the oldest plantation in Southern Maryland and is one of the most haunted Maryland attractions. This beautiful, historic estate was built in the 1700’s and has been the residence of a number of wealthy families through the years. It is open to the public for tours and is a venue for weddings and special events. But as beautiful as it is, it is also quite haunted. The Sotterley Plantation employees claim a number of paranormal experiences. One cleaning lady claims a poltergeist in the Manor would mess with her by turning off the vacuum repeatedly. When she went to leave, a rock was hurled at her head in the empty driveway. A former owner who lived at Sotterley Plantation most of his life still haunts the second level, as well as the beautiful staircase. He doesn’t like when loud kids or hooligans come up to the second level and will even push people down the staircase. A Frightening EVP Paranormal investigators in the area decided to do a thorough investigation of Sotterley Plantation and acquired many EVP’s, including a rather terrifying EVP recorded in the old slave cabin. In this particular EVP recording, the sound of drums beats faintly in the background and then a woman’s voice yells “Get Out!” Who knows if the ghosts of the former slaves are still trapped on the property? There are certain scents that undulate from the kitchen, such as breakfast smells, although there’s no one cooking at the time. Lights flicker and many other hair-raising experiences have been documented at the haunted Sotterley Plantation. Disclosure: I may earn a small commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from this website. Your purchase helps support my work in bringing you information about the paranormal and paganism. Paranormal Point Lookout Located in Scotland, Maryland, at the southern tip of the state, stands Point Lookout. Point Lookout was the site of numerous historical tragedies. Point Lookout Maryland was used as a prisoner camp and hospital during the Civil War. Confederate sympathizers were kept at Point Lookout. An estimated eight thousand prisoners died there from disease due to contaminated wells and unsanitary conditions, or they froze to death in tents during the winter. After the Civil War ended, a lighthouse was built at Point Lookout and was used for over a hundred years. Different families lived in and maintained the Point Lookout lighthouse, which still stands today. A resort on Point Lookout burned down in the early 1900’s, though no one was killed in the fire. Ships sank off the coast of Point Lookout. It’s no wonder ghosts are seen all the time on the property. An old lighthouse keeper’s ghost is heard going up and down the stairs to turn the light on at night. My mom even heard the lighthouse keeper’s footsteps the night she investigated! Soldiers’ voices are caught on EVP recordings all the time. The Sightings at Point Lookout Lighthouse Many people who visit Point Lookout Maryland, including campers, encounter the ghosts of Confederate soldiers walking along the roads. Some people mistake these ghosts for historical re-enactments. Paranormal activity occurs in the Lighthouse itself, including pictures taken of ghosts, various frightening EVPs, and blatant sightings of apparitions, making this one of the most well-known haunted Maryland attractions in the state. One watchman claims he met an old woman on the shoreline who asked him where the “gravestones were that used to be where they were standing”. He asked her where she lived and she said she lived up the road “a ways” and that she didn’t need his help getting home. The park guard turned to leave her and when he turned back to check on her, she had disappeared completely. After […]

Signs You Live in a Real Haunted House: Is My House Haunted? https://otherworldlyoracle.com/signs-real-haunted-house-is-my-house-haunted/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=signs-real-haunted-house-is-my-house-haunted&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=signs-real-haunted-house-is-my-house-haunted https://otherworldlyoracle.com/signs-real-haunted-house-is-my-house-haunted/#comments Wed, 06 Jun 2018 09:40:11 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=184 Is My House Haunted? Are you wondering if you live in a real haunted house? Weird noises, cold drafts, and a history of tragedy might be plaguing your house. But do these add up to a real haunting? Are you asking google “is my house haunted”? It’s time to evaluate and collect data on the signs that you’re living in a real haunted house. I can help you figure it out. I’ve had multiple paranormal experiences and have lived in real haunted houses. The picture below is a real picture of me in 2001 (don’t judge my look – I was ill) with unexplained mist in front and around me. If you look towards the bay window, where the dogs are playing, you’ll see a red circle that I have drawn around the ghost of a little boy who died in the house. This was not a picture with double-exposure and no one smoked in the house. The misty figure in front of me is also a ghost of an older woman who also died in the house. I am an intuitive and sensitive to energies and spirits, and here are the signs that you’re living in a real haunted house. Signs that Your House Is Haunted You hear footsteps at night, things just don’t feel right, how do I know if my house is haunted? Do the footsteps count? Does it count if my house is super old? How do I find out if my house is haunted? In my lifetime, I have lived in at least three haunted houses all at least sixty years old. Keep in mind that not every older home is going to be haunted. Also, your house doesn’t have to be old to be haunted, it could be brand spankin’ new, just built yesterday and still be a real haunted house. The age of your home has nothing to do with whether your house is haunted or not. It could be the land where your house sits or the land around it. So let’s start with some signs to answer the question is my house haunted? Sights objects seeming to be lost, then pop up in very obvious places shadows appear or move when nothing or no one else is in the house to create shadows outright sighting of a mist or person in your home or around your home or an unidentifiable figure you’ve seen objects move such as doors opening or shutting with no one to move them pictures of ghosts or mists or recorded videos of ghosts or ghostly activity (such as the video to the right) frightening out-of-the-ordinary nightmares that seem to recur and come in patterns: sleep paralysis and sleepwalking could come as a side effect or in correlation to these nightmares flickering lights, lights turning on and off by themselves flickering televisions and radios; channels and stations changing by themselves; changes in electric appliances your animals react to something unseen in a room; dogs bark at the air or cats meow or hiss at the air shadows or figures moving in your peripheral vision Sounds thumping sounds like footsteps on steps and floors, or even thumping sounds on walls or ceilings scratching sounds on walls or ceilings disembodied voices – screams, calling of names, cries, moans, recorded EVPs, laughs whispers in your ears music that comes from somewhere unknown Scents strange odors or scents emanating from particular rooms with no other explanations odors could include bad odors such as sulfur, death smells (rotten smells) or could be sweet smells such as floral perfume scents or smells of food such as cupcakes or bacon Tastes a metallic tastes when encountering malevolent spirits/ghosts Touch or Sense hairs raise on the back of your neck you get chills when it’s not cold in the house cold spots or unusually warm spots a sense of someone watching you feelings of discomfort or unsettling feelings physical feeling of being touched, grabbed, choked, or even attacked More Signs You’re in a Real Haunted House There are many more signs that you could be in a real haunted house; however, these are some of the main signs to confirm and how to find out “is my house haunted”? Keep in mind that you could be experiencing only one of these things and your house could still very well be haunted. Each haunting will be different just as every human and house is different. Obviously if you’re experiencing physical attack and blatant movement or even hurling of objects, or violence in any way from an unseen force, you can confirm your house is haunted. And in this case, you might want to stop reading this article and find a priest or someone who can aid in cleansing your home. But, if you are experiencing less severe signs of a haunting in your home, but signs nonetheless, you may be living in a real haunted house. There are a few ways of documenting proof that your home is haunted: you can videotape different areas of your home where supernatural things are thought to be occurring (specifically at night is the best time) you can also set up recorders to try to catch EVPs (electronic voice phenomenons) you can call in a team of ghost hunters or paranormal investigators you can ask that a psychic or a sensitive come to your home and confirm that there is a ghost you can conduct a séance and ask for direct confirmation from the ghost haunting your house (which I advise against unless you are entirely skilled in the realm of spirits…if not, this could anger the ghost or make your situation take a turn for the WORSE) you can look into the history of your house (who lived there before you, the land it stands on, what tragedies if any have occurred there) What Type of Ghost Is Haunting Your House? Depending on the type of paranormal occurrences you are experiencing will determine the type of spirit that is haunting your […]
