Intuition is something everyone is born with. It’s one of our primal instincts (in my opinion), but because of modern society’s skeptic views we often forget how to use it. We tune that inner voice out. I’ll tell you this – whenever my intuition is loud and clear about something and I DIDN’T listen…I always end up regretting it. So here’s 7 simple ways to increase your ability to listen to your intuition. First, What is Intuition? Where Does it Come From? Intuition isn’t some divine voice outside of you. No heavenly light will shine down on you and no angels will emerge from the clouds. That’s because your intuition comes from inside of you. It is often a soft, gentle voice that tries to nudge you in the right direction. And because of this, it’s also easy to ignore. The Oxford Dictionary defines intuition as “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.” It’s an inner knowing. Everyone experiences intuition in their own unique way. You might experience intuition with a random image in your mind. Typically intuition is the FIRST initial thought that pops into your head during a situation. You might hear a voice. Or feel some kind of sensation. Truly the first step is to understand how your intuition speaks to you. I say that intuition is often soft and gentle, but in times of danger it can be incredibly loud. How to Increase Intuition in 7 SIMPLE Ways When learning how to increase intuition, try one or more of these exercises. If one seems to work better than the others, incorporate it into your daily routine. But remember! Intuition speaks when you need it to. It’s not something that you’ll experience every single day of your life…nor do you need it to. Intuition is there for when you need it: to prevent you from danger, to guide you in the right direction. 1. Think Back! Think back to a time when you heard that inner voice loud and clear. Maybe you were going to get into a car, your inner voice told you not to, then that car had an accident. Maybe you almost took a job that would have laid you off a month later. Every one has at least one story where they listened to their intuition and realized later it was the right choice! Now think about how your intuition warned you or guided you: did you see an image in your mind? Hear a word spoken in your ear? Felt a strange sensation? This will help you understand how your intuition talks to you so in the future you’ll recognize it. 2. Chakra Alignment Sometimes our intuition is blocked by our own making. The daily ins and outs of life “muddy up the waters”, so to speak. If you haven’t done any meditation lately, now’s the time to. Try a chakra alignment meditation on YouTube. It doesn’t have to be an hour long. Even fifteen minutes a week will help increase intuition. When our chakras are blocked or out of alignment, our intuition will also be blocked. Which leads me to the next way to increase intuition. 3. Spend Time With Mother Earth You’d think this would be a given. But we forget the most important way to attune to our intuition and therefore ourselves is to spend time in nature. Unfortunately, modern society is driven by money, success, and we get lost in the shuffle of the daily routine. We get lost in social media and keeping up with the Joneses. Our ancestors were more in-tune because they spent more time outside. So get outside, even if only for fifteen minutes a day. And if the weather is bad? Open a window slightly and listen to the rain or storm. If it’s too cold, make a bonfire and gaze into the flames. Our primal instincts, including intuition, only get keener when we are in sync with the earth. 4. Intuitive Exercises With a Friend Do you have a spiritual friend with whom you could try intuitive exercises? If so, have your friend on a phone call and have them think of an image in their mind. Then you tell them what it is based on the FIRST inclination you get. As I said before, this could be an image in YOUR mind, a sound, a smell, etc. Don’t second guess yourself, just say it! And if you’re way off, ask for a broad hint. Keep practicing this and I promise your intuition will increase over time. 5. Divination to Increase Intuition Divination is another great practice to take up if you want to increase your intuition exponentially. Some say this tunes into the “clairs” or psychic abilities, I say intuition is another factor at play. I often feel like intuition and claircognizance are intertwined. Choose a form of divination you feel comfortable with and practice it daily. Or as often as you can. Some examples: oracle or tarot cards, runes, pendulum dowsing, mirror scrying, cloud or fire scrying. Practicing divination is like flexing your intuitive muscles. Even better if you can practice doing readings for other people and ask them if and how your reading resonated (0r not). 6. Eat Healthy, Natural Foods I know it’s hard. Trust me. I love a juicy cheeseburger as much as the next person. But here’s the thing – when learning how to increase intuition, you have to learn how to control your physical urges too. Processed junk foods are further from nature than healthy natural foods like vegetables and fruits. If you’re in the habit of eating processed foods (that includes store-bought breads and pastas!) daily, consider changing your eating habits. When we eat naturally, we more attuned to nature and our primal intuitive selves. I’m telling you – it makes a HUGE difference. 7. Trust Yourself Whenever I haven’t listened to […]

Synchronicities & Omens: Coincidence Or Not? How to Tell https://otherworldlyoracle.com/synchronicities-omens-coincidence/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=synchronicities-omens-coincidence https://otherworldlyoracle.com/synchronicities-omens-coincidence/#comments Mon, 10 Aug 2020 18:56:44 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5401 Spiritually connected people go through something I like to call an awakening at some point in their lives. And during this awakening, they receive messages from the Universe. These messages come in the form of omens and signs. Sometimes these signs are repetitive, and then we call them synchronicities. But believe it or not, not every “sign” is an actual message from your guides. Here’s how to tell whether that sign is an omen or simply a coincidence. What is an Omen or Sign? I thought long and hard about this one. How do you succinctly explain the essence of an omen or a sign? If you look up the definition of omen online, it says “an event that acts as a portent of good or evil.” Then if you google portent, it says “a sign or a warning that something is likely to happen.” So, basically we get the runaround. I’m going to break it down for you as best as I can. Our Ancestors’ Omens & Signs If we travel to the time of our pagan ancestors, we learn that omens were signs that something big was about to happen in their lives. For example, the appearance of the formidable banshee or the Washer at the Fords, foretold the death of either oneself or one’s loved one. She was a “bad” omen, if you will. They also believed in good omens or signs. White moths meant their passed loves ones were visiting. Certain sea birds like the albatross meant land was closeby. I could go on and on. Our Ancestors Had Many “Signs” and “Omens” Sometimes our ancestors seemed to go overboard with things that could be omens or signs. If we adhered to all of our ancestors’ superstitions, literally everything would be considered a sign. The kitchen towel falling means company is coming. Finding a black button on the ground means you are cursed. Seeing two crows means divorce. And on and on. The point here is – we have to determine whether an occurrence is significant enough to be an omen or sign…or is it simply just an everyday occurrence? How to Tell if It’s an Omen or Just a Coincidence What is the difference between an actual omen or sign and a simple occurrence? First, an omen or sign is going to be obvious in that it will be “out of the blue”. For example, seeing a crow flying by probably isn’t an omen. But if you turn around and a crow is cawing in your face, three feet away from you, that’s an omen. An omen is direct and feels a bit invasive (often in a good way). Finding a tree frog on your pillow is an omen. As opposed to seeing a frog in your driveway. Are you noticing a difference? Signs can’t be forced, they come when it’s the right time and typically when you’re not expecting it. What Are Synchronicities in the Spiritual Sense? And how do they work with omens and signs? How do synchronicities align with seeing omens and receiving signs? If you google synchronicities, you’ll find the word isn’t necessarily a real word with a specific definition. However, in the spiritual community, synchronicities are a powerful and common experience. Synchronicities happen when a person receives recurrent omens or signs. Examples of Synchronicities Synchronicities come in different forms. And for each individual, they will vary. But, I’d like to give you a few examples of spiritual synchronicities. When you notice an omen happening more than once, it’s a synchronicity. Also be aware, the synchronicity might be different omens with the same message. If a crow caws in your face, the next day one jumps on your car, and the following day your friend gives you a book featuring crows. You dream about living in Ancient Egypt, your date takes you to a movie about Ancient Egypt, then an ibis sits on top of your house A book you read features the god Odin (unbeknownst to you), a rune appears in the steam on your stockpot’s lid, then a friend gives you a set of rune stones Seeing a certain number or pattern of numbers over and over again in a short period of time. Common examples of this: 11, 12, 11:11, 1:11, 333, 444, etc. Finding a seagull feather far from the ocean, mermaids appearing in your dreams, then someone buys you a shirt with a whale on it These are just examples of omens coming in a pattern – aka synchronicities. As you can see, the omens come in different forms, but can occur in the same fashion. It all depends on what the Universe wants to show you. Who or What is Sending You Omens and Synchronicities? After you’ve determined it’s an omen, then you might wonder who is sending these signs? And why? The answer isn’t simple. It could be the Universe, spirit guides, your ancestors, a god or goddess, the angels, a deceased friend, or even your higher self. I’ve noticed the Universe will typically speak to me in numbers and in more subtle ways than a god or goddess. A god or goddess usually sends me omens in the form of animals. Ancestors speak to me using songs and memories. Angels send feathers. But this might be different for you. The key is to record your experiences and then decipher a pattern or message. If you’re unsure who sent the sign or synchronicity, ask for confirmation. You’ll receive another sign and then know for sure. Be open to receiving omens and signs from the universe and your guides. But don’t force it to happen. The signs will come when the time is right. Witch’s Flying Ointment: A History & Non-Toxic Recipes https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witchs-flying-ointment-a-history-recipes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=witchs-flying-ointment-a-history-recipes https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witchs-flying-ointment-a-history-recipes/#comments Sun, 24 Mar 2019 22:19:19 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=2175 The image of witches flying on broomsticks is a misconstrued truth – witches “flew” but perhaps not in the way you might expect. In this article, we’ll discover the history of flying ointments, provide flying ointment recipes, and teach you how to create your own (safer) flying ointment recipe. What is Flying Ointment? What is a flying ointment and what does it have to do with witches on broomsticks? The original flying ointment was an herbal salve, ointment, or oil that witches used to anoint themselves. Other names for flying ointment included green salve, hexensalbe (hexen salve), and witch’s salve. The ingredients in these ointments when applied to the skin are believed to have produced a trance-like state in the recipient. This shift in consciousness gave witches visions or sensations of flying in the sky, visiting remote locations, and communicating with the spirit world. Sometimes flying ointments were used to induce experiences of shapeshifting (changing into the likeness of an animal). Essentially, the belief is when witches “fly” they are astral projecting. Some symptoms of astral projection include the feeling of floating out of one’s body, visions of “flying” to other realms or planes of existence, and even meeting other beings in these “realms”. According to a guide in the UAB, “in 1458, a man called Abraham the Jew published an account of an interesting experience. He met a witch in Linz, Austria, who gave him an unguent, or ointment, and told him to spread it over his pulse points, as she did the same. Abraham had the sensation of flying through the air to a place he wanted to visit. When he awoke, the witch told him a different tale of her travels, which inspired him to investigate further. He then asked her to take the ointment while he watched. Instead of flying, he observed the witch fall to the floor and remain immobilized for hours; she woke with further tales. He concluded the unguent induced hallucinations of flying and other fantasies” (Lois Martin, A Brief History of Witchcraft, pp. 49-50). Flying on Broomsticks? The women accused of witchcraft in Medieval Times were women who tended house: wives, midwives, servants, etc. And what do these people have in common? A broom! Seems only natural the broom was a representation of women and therefore became a witch’s tool. And if we look deeper into the occult mysteries of the witch’s broom, we also find that some believed the broom was a representation of fertility. The stick being a phallic symbol that’s inserted into twigs or plant matter that’s representative of a female’s womb. Another story suggests witches anointed their broomsticks with flying ointments and then anointed their vaginas with it (we’re not recommending that). There are flying ointment recipes dating back to the Dark Ages some witches still use today. Most of the old flying ointment recipes included an animal fat used as the base of the salve and infused with one or more toxic herbs. It’s interesting to note that witches “flew” on broomsticks when they were technically “high” on flying ointment. Please don’t go anointing your mucus membranes with herbal salves, as the absorption rate is much higher and may affect you in a more toxic or even deadlier way. What Did a Flying Ointment Consist Of in the Middle Ages? Flying ointment recipes in the Dark Ages included the following poisonous (baneful) herbs: If you choose to study and recreate any of the old flying ointment recipes, most people will tell you to stay far away from the herbs above. They are all toxic in one way or another and have been known to cause sickness and death. But there are those who work with poisonous herbs and refer to this type of herbalism as the “poison path”. They claim baneful herbs also have their healing and otherworldly properties. One such poison path herbalist is Coby Michael, the author of The Poison Path Herbal, and someone who we had the pleasure of interviewing on our podcast Mimir’s Well. You can listen to that episode below. And following that, go to his Facebook Group and sign up as a member. You’ll learn more in his group than anywhere else online, I promise you that. DISCLAIMER: Always proceed with caution when using these herbs (and any herbs you are not familiar with). If you have any medical conditions, it’s best to refrain from using the herbs from traditional flying ointments (and as listed above). You are responsible for your own decisions and health. Flying Ointment Recipe #1 (Toxic) Poisonous herbs are marked with an asterisk * below. Infuse three herbs in pure olive oil or sweet almond oil for at least two weeks, for up to a month (in an air-tight glass jar such as a Mason jar). You’ll want to use 1/4 herbs to 3/4 oil as a general rule for herbal infused oil. Shake the jar every day, twice a day. At the end of the 2-4 weeks, strain out the herbs and bottle the flying ointment oil. Anoint your chakras or your power points (third eye and back of neck/tip of spine) to induce a trance and take flight. Flying Ointment Recipe #2 (Safe) This recipe is not traditional or out of any ancient grimoire or Book of Shadows, it’s my personal flying ointment oil recipe. The herbs aren’t toxic but still encourage an alpha-state of mind. Infuse three herbs in sweet almond or jojoba oil for 2-4 weeks in an air-tight glass jar. Follow instructions in first recipe above. Anoint power points on body: third eye, back of neck, under arms, tops of feet, chakra points, etc. Especially helpful to anoint before bed-time, as you may experience intense astral travel. Flying Ointment Recipe #3: Herbal Salve (Safe) If you’re looking for a flying ointment close to the traditional, you’ll first make a flying ointment oil then use that as a base for an herbal salve. Herbal salves take longer to create but are worth the effort. […]

American Nightshade Magical Properties & Secrets https://otherworldlyoracle.com/american-nightshade-magic/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=american-nightshade-magic https://otherworldlyoracle.com/american-nightshade-magic/#comments Thu, 18 Oct 2018 13:09:59 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=1224 No other herb in history is steeped in the macabre like the deadly nightshade plant, aka Bella donna. But deadly nightshade isn’t the only plant in the nightshade family. Did you know potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers are all a part of the nightshade plant family? So is American nightshade. In North America, the American nightshade plant is found growing wild all over the continent. And, while it is classified as poisonous, there is much more to the story than one might expect. Learn the American nightshade plant’s magical properties and its secrets here. For Members Only. American Nightshade Profile American nightshade, Solanum americanum, is a wild-growing herbaceous plant found in North America. It is in the same family as deadly nightshade but is not the same species. Its leaves are oval and broad and vary in size up to ten centimeters long. The plant itself grows up to six feet tall. When American nightshade flowers, the blooms are small, star-shaped (5 petals) white to light purple blooms with a yellow stamen. The American nightshade’s berries are small and clustered on one stem. When they’re unripe, they are bright shiny green. When ripened, the berries are black. American nightshade is also called glossy nightshade and American black nightshade and is dispersed throughout the tropics and subtropics of North America. It is native to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Texas and most southern states in the U.S. and it has been introduced to places in Canada, as well. Watch the video below to see a real American nightshade plant growing wild in my yard! A Brief WARNING! While I chose to reveal this information to you, it does NOT mean I encourage you to come in direct contact with the American nightshade (or any poisonous) plant. The American nightshade’s green berries are POISONOUS and have been known to cause death in animals, small children, and one adult who have eaten them. There are also claims the leaves and roots are poisonous if ingested or absorbed into breaks in the skin. If you do decide to forage or grow this potentially toxic herb, PROCEED WITH CAUTION. No pets or children should have any contact with this plant as it could cause sickness and death. Always use thick gloves when handling plants of potential toxicity.  American Nightshade Edible Secrets With the scary stuff out of the way, some herbalists claim the ripened black berries of the American nightshade are edible, including Green Dean who hosts foraging for wild edible tours throughout the southeast United States. To read his article on American nightshade, click here. Green Dean claims he has eaten the black berries, starting with a quarter of a berry one day, half a berry the next, and working his way up to a whole berries or two at a time. HOWEVER, he states he has not eaten a cup of berries or baked a pie as other individuals have claimed.  Here’s my little secret – I’ve tasted a ripe American nightshade berry. I say tasted because as soon as I had chewed up the flesh, I completely chickened out and spit it out! I didn’t swallow it. I was afraid of the toxicity warnings. For the record, I had no after-effects from simply tasting and spitting out one ripe berry. However, I don’t think I’m as brave as Green Dean to consume the berries any time soon. Nor do I recommend you eat them, either.  American Nightshade: Plant Familiar When I first came in contact with American nightshade, it was growing in my backyard (as seen in the video above). The funny thing was – I had wished for a few weeks to have belladonna grow in my garden. Well, I didn’t get belladonna but I did get its cousin American nightshade! Surprisingly, I found it growing up from underneath the foundation of the house. It’s black berries and white-star flowers were unmistakable as nightshade. I was ecstatic! Unfortunately, we had to cut it down for fear our toddler would get curious and eat the berries. Not two weeks after that, it grew back! You see, when a plant wants to be a guide or familiar of yours, it will continually show up. You’ll take notice of this because it will be a plant you’ve always wanted to find OR it will be a plant that doesn’t normally grow in your yard or path. Then you’ll see it growing everywhere! Following the American nightshade growing in my garden, I dreamed of making a nightshade berry pie, and I began seeing it at a local park…growing all over the place. I ended up harvesting some of it (carefully with gloves), drying it out, and then bottling it in a glass vial to be worn as an amulet. When I want to cross the hedge, I wear the amulet and the American nightshade lends its otherworldly abilities to my magic. American Nightshade Folklore & Magic In ancient times, belladonna was used to dilate women’s pupils to enhance beauty. In fact, eye doctors use it to dilate your pupils in modern times. Belladonna, and other nightshade plants, have long been associated with poisonings and death. Legend has it that Locusta killed the emperor Claudius using belladonna given to him by Agrippina the Younger.  To witches in Medieval times, belladonna was used as an ingredient in flying ointments. Flying ointments were oils and salves anointed on the body or absorbed into the mucus membranes in order to give the witch or magician a “high” or produce hallucinations and visions. This is what some people believe gave us the image of the witch flying on a broomstick = witches “flying high”. Some professional herbalists, like Sarah Anne Lawless, still infuse salves and ointments with atropa belladonna for medicinal purposes. I have never used belladonna in ointments, nor do I plan to; however, I have used belladonna as a means of crossing the hedge.  Because American nightshade is close in relation to deadly nightshade (belladonna), we can assume it takes on […]
