I sure do like those Christmas cookies, Babe. Just a little George Strait song for you, folks. You don’t have to like George Strait or country music to be here, but you DO have to like Christmas treats. Over the past few years, I’ve been researching and thinking – why aren’t there more pagan and witch-themed Yule cookie recipes? There’s a few, but not as many as there should be. SO I’ve come up with some of my own, mixed in with some of the traditional Christmas cookies (with a witchy twist). Here’s my top 10 procured and personal witchy Yule cookie recipes. 10 Yule Cookies for a Very Witchy Winter Solstice The great thing about Yule cookies is this – you can make traditional Christmas cookies and put your own witchy spin on them by adding special spices or herbs. Nature-themed and witchy cookie cutters are easy to procure and use in place of angels or nativity scene cookies. Get inspired. Get your kids involved. Bring on the witchy this Yule in the kitchen! 1. Sun and Moon Yule Cookies As pagans, we have a thing for the sun and moon. We just can’t help ourselves. And with the Winter Solstice being the longest night of the year, why not celebrate the moon’s rule PLUS the return of the sun the following day with sun and moon Yule cookies? These are as simple as using your favorite sugar cookie or gingerbread recipe, and then cutting out moon and sun shapes with cutters or by hand. Stars are appropriate too and an easy-to-find cookie cutter shape during the holidays. Or try this Yule moon cookie recipe by CDKitchen. Offer a sun cookie to a solar god or goddess and a moon cookie to a lunar god or goddess. OR keep a few as offerings for Odin…I mean Santa…I mean Odin. 😉 2. Prosperity-Drawing Snickerdoodles for Yule Snickerdoodles are an absolute family favorite when it comes to Yule cookies. And, not to brag, but Allorah says my snickerdoodles are the best she’s ever had! Something about the light-airiness of the cookie coated in cinnamon just screams joy and abundance. And, not to brag, but I make some pretty amazing snickerdoodles. How do we consider these pagan or witchy? We look at the ingredients and see cinnamon – which is an herb that draws success, prosperity, and strength. Bake and eat snickerdoodles to draw an abundance of health, happiness and wealth in the coming year. They are little sugary spells on your plate! 3. Magical Snowballs Also called Russian teacakes, snowballs are one of my all-time favorite Yule time cookies. They literally melt in your mouth. Pair it with some milk or coffee…oh my gods. Drool-worthy. I like to think these little treats are witchy – with a name like “snowball”, coated in powdered sugar (pure magic) and walnuts added. Walnuts bring fertility, wealth, and new opportunities. So eat up! Here’s my favorite snowball recipe. 4. Krampus Cookies Is there such thing? Yes. And again, you can make the cookies from any recipe you’d like, but we prefer sugar cookie. Get yourself a Krampus cookie cutter. Then be sure to ice it or put sprinkles and red hots on top. There’s angel cookies and nativity cookies, why can’t we Pagans celebrate Krampus with a Krampus cookie? And if you’ve ever seen the movie titled Krampus, you can make regular gingerbread men with evil little faces to celebrate the film. 5. La Befana and Berchta Cookies Traditionally, La Befana has her own special cake in Italy. It’s called…yep…La Befana cake. But since we’re talking Yule COOKIES, we are going to modify the tradition a bit to fit our own. In case you didn’t know, La Befana is the Italian Christmas witch that gives presents to kids during the Winter season. And just like her American elven counterpart (Santa Claus), she enjoys treats to show one’s gratitude. One way to make La Befana cookies is to modify the cake recipe into a cookie recipe. OR you can acquire witch-shaped cookie cutters. These will also work as Berchta cookies! Read more about Christmas Witches here. 6. Gingerbread (The “Original” Christmas Yule Cookie) My research says the first Christmas cookie was something close to gingerbread. According to the History network, “many Christmas cookies are still heavily spiced. We think of ‘traditional’ Christmas flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger, and those are exactly the same spices medieval cooks would have used in their cookies ages ago.” My kids love making gingerbread men, specifically. You can also make gingerbread krampus cookies, Christmas witch cookies, and whatever shapes you feel evoke the pagan Yuletide season. 7. Chocolate Chip Cookies With Sea Salt This Yule season, bake a holiday favorite – the chocolate chip cookie. But make it witchy by adding sea salt. Every witch worth her salt (pun intended), knows the potent magical properties of sea salt. Adding a bit to your Yule chocolate chip cookies not only amplifies the flavor profile, but also provides a protective magical boost. Want to learn more about salt’s magical properties? Click here. Make chocolate chip cookies with sea salt with this recipe. 8. Sandbakelse: A Traditional Nordic Yule Cookie Baking sandbakelse in Norway is a common, two-centuries-old family tradition. Sandbakelse translates to sand tarts, but aren’t made with sand. They’re made with flour, sugar, butter and chopped almonds. Similar to the American sugar cookie or snowball. Norwegian immigrants brought sandbakelse to the New World with them in the nineteenth century, along with the quintessential cookie tins. If you have Norwegian ancestry, or just want to try making these cookies, check out this recipe. And here’s the tins. 9. Melomakarono: Traditional Greek Cookies Likely the oldest cookie we have on our list here is melomakarono. Melomakarono is a Greek dessert made at Christmas-time that’s based on the ancient “Mercy Meal”, also called Makaria. Makaria was a Greek goddess and the daughter of Hades, god of […]

Witches Bells: Their History, Lore and How to Use Them https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witches-bells/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=witches-bells https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witches-bells/#comments Mon, 08 Nov 2021 13:35:00 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7567 Want more cowbell? Not me. I want more witches bells! These pretty little decorations are much more than simple décor for a witch’s home. They are powerful protective wards. In this article, we define witches bells, discover their centuries-old origins, PLUS learn how to use them in your home to ward off negative energy and spirits. What Are Witches Bells? Put simply, witches bells are a handheld-size set of magical bells hung from a doorknob or a nail in their home. Witches mostly use these bells to ward off negativity in a home, but they are also pretty to look at and listen to! This magical ringing device has ages-old origins, and I can’t help but notice the correlation to the modern doorbell and musical instruments. Where did these jingly little charms come from? And why do witches use them today? Witches Bells Origins: Church Bells, Cow bells, and More Bells have been used for centuries for spiritual and mundane reasons. First, let’s look at the physical aspects of the bell and its uses through time. Bells are typically made of metal and consist of a hollowed out vessel with a dangling piece inside called a clapper or uvula. The clapper hits the walls inside and produces a ringing sound upon movement. The word bell literally translates to mean “to roar” or “to make a loud noise” (think bellow). The first bell was invented in the 3rd millennium BC in Neolithic China, as archaeological evidence suggests (Wikipedia). By Medieval Times, bells were a prominent tool used by churches, farms, and business owners. According to Judika Iles in the Encyclopedia of Witchcraft, “bells derive from ancient sacred images of human genitalia. The bell’s body represents the vulva, while the clapper represents the penis. Sometimes the bell’s body represents the womb while the clapper represents a child within.” Bell Uses Over the Centuries So why did our ancestors use bells? Bells were a means of sounding an alarm, so to speak, to gain attention to a situation. For example, soldiers at city gates might ring a large bell to let everyone know there were invaders on the horizon. Farmers hung bells from the necks of their cattle and dogs to alert them to their animals’ whereabouts. Attaching a bell to the door of a business allows its owner to know someone has entered the shop. And what about churches? Churches have used large bells for centuries to announce the commencement of service OR in celebration of special holy-days like Christmas, Easter, etc. They have also been used as musical instruments over the centuries. Iron and Loud Sounds After 1000 AD, people made bells from iron. And, according to European lore, iron scares off or, at the very least, agitates faeries. So much so that folks kept iron horseshoes above the doorway to ward off the fae and evil spirits and employed iron bells as protection in various ways. In addition, church bells scared off trickster spirits. And traditionally loud sounds, like those from bells or chimes, scare off ghosts and demonic entities. Is it the iron the bells are traditionally made of that has a cleansing, protective effect OR is it the purifying sound waves sent through the air that wards off the evil? Truly, I believe it is both of these things. How to Make Witch’s Bells (Or Where to Purchase Them) Truly you can make your own witch’s bells using any items you’d like. But here’s a few necessary items you’ll need: A metal ring, cord, string, rope (something to be the base or hold the bells together) Bells (small to medium sized bells are best. Find these at your craft store or in the craft section of department stores) Charms (other items you’d like to add to your witch bells to make them more powerful. Including beads, feathers, pendants, crystals, runes, etc.) How to put your bells together and add MAGICK: Gather your supplies. Set the mood to make magick. I like to turn on music, light a few candles and incense, etc. Cleanse your supplies by whatever method you prefer. Begin stringing and tying your bells on your ring or rope. As you go along, charge your bells with energy by chanting, singing, praying, dancing, etc. Use your favorite way to raise energy during this step. I prefer praying over my bells and invoking my gods and ancestors’ energy. Add your charms and other items to your witch bells. Thank the present energies (your ancestors/gods spirits, the energy in your supplies, etc.) Hang the finished enchanted product on your front door or other door. OR you can hang your bells anywhere you feel drawn to. Listen, we can’t all be artistic and crafty. So if you don’t want to make your own set of witches bells, you can always have Melissa with Stamp It Out Loud make them for you. And I couldn’t be happier! I use them as a magical “lock” or warding device on my witchy cabinet. The mirrors act as portals and so I needed some kind of ward to keep spirits at bay. Mel’s bells have been powerful and protective for this need. And I couldn’t have added the special touch that she did. How to Use Witches Bells (Many Different Ways) Bells in general have magical properties of protection, purification, joy, alarm and celebration. Use your set of bells in whatever way resonates with you; however, there are a few ways I recommend trying. Keep in mind, you can use your set of witch’s bells for any ritual that requires a bell in general. Ring your witch’s bells to announce the start of a ritual or spell working; bells are also used to invoke CERTAIN deities (do your research beforehand) Hang them from your front door to announce visitors AND to ward off negative energy Hang them from your witch’s cabinet or altar to ward off low level spirits that may try to feed on the energy there AND to warn you if […]

Graveyard Dirt, Crossroads & Church Dirt (Or How to Use Soil In Spells) https://otherworldlyoracle.com/graveyard-dirt-in-spells/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=graveyard-dirt-in-spells https://otherworldlyoracle.com/graveyard-dirt-in-spells/#respond Sun, 24 Oct 2021 12:59:51 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7548 Everything in nature has magickal properties. And when I say everything, I’m even talking about dirt. Dirt and soil have been used across cultures in folk magick for centuries including Hoodoo, Norse, Celtic, and in Indigenous nations around the globe. So, what’s so special about dirt? And why all the buzz over graveyard dirt and the like? Magical History and Basic Properties of Dirt For one thing, dirt is part of the Earth element. It can and has been used in spells and rituals to physically represent Earth, fertility and prosperity. Secondly, if you’ve ever made a mud pie, dirt mixed with water can make a clay-like substance in many instances. Peoples used this knowledge to create body adornment paint in various shades from brown to white to red ochre. In fact, red ochre is the oldest form of face and body paint known to exist. Now that we have a little background on the use of dirt among varying cultures, let’s dive into sympathetic magickal use. Any time you use an ingredient that symbolizes your intention and is used to represent that intention, it’s known as sympathetic magick. So, how do we use dirt to represent our intentions in our spellwork? It’s actually a really easy answer: you collect dirt from a symbolic location that aligns with your intentions and the type of working you are trying to manifest. Here are some examples of different types of dirt, where they can be found, and uses. Remember, this is just a starting point. If you think of symbolism not listed here and would like to use it in that way, by all means GO FOR IT! Graveyard Dirt           Graveyard dirt can be used to hex or curse, speak with the dead, or aid in a variety of spells. The reason for this is because, traditionally,  you would seek out the grave of a person who could help you manifest. Confused? Ok, it goes like this. Let’s say you are doing a prosperity spell. Who do you think is a person that could help with that intention? I say try the grave of a banker or a wealthy aristocrat. Be careful about your selection and always do your research. If it’s a benefic spell, avoid the graves of people who suffered extreme trauma or those who may be unwell. And you can search unwell spirits here on Otherworldly Oracle if you’re not sure how to discern them. By the same token, if you want to work malefic magick, the grave of a person who suffered the same fate you’re wanting to induce is recommended. Due to modern laws regarding cemeteries and graveyards, you must have a purpose for digging dirt on someone’s grave. The most common-sense approach is to take flowers with you to offer to the deceased. You need to leave an offering anyway. And this gives you a perfectly normal reason to be digging on a grave. Your Front and Back Yard           Dirt from your own front yard is an excellent addition to any spells that involve the protection, peace, and/or safe return of the family and/or property.  Adding dirt from your property is an excellent addition to herbal warding mixes as well sprinkling it in the shoes of family and friends to ensure they return safely. Collecting and using dirt from the four corners of your property is extra powerful. Church Dirt           Church dirt can be used for cleansing, purification, healing, protection, mending relationships and even in matters of justice. Enemy’s House Dirt           Dirt collected from an enemy’s house is potent in hex and curse work. The reason to collect the dirt would be to have a physical item from your enemy in order to target the spell at them. However, because it’s the dirt of the property, it will target all who live in the dwelling unless you specify otherwise. Use with caution! Courthouse Dirt           Courthouse dirt is great for legal, justice, and truth matters. Police Station Dirt           Police station dirt is great for protection, law keep away, and justice spells. Jail Dirt           Jail dirt is great for law keep away and protection spells. One common use is to sprinkle it along the baseboards of the home to invoke energetic bars of steel to protect the home’s occupants. Hospital Dirt           This dirt can be gathered from the hospital or any other healing facility. As you probably have guessed, hospital dirt is excellent to use in healing works. CAUTION: If you are using it to physically heal someone, be sure they are also seeking professional medical help. Healing is a sticky business because if someone is severely ill, the best way to heal them may be in death. This dirt is similar to graveyard dirt in ways as it can also be used for malefic reasons. Bank Dirt           This dirt can be used for prosperity, abundance, money, and employment spells. Since banks are where the majority of the world keeps their money, its dirt can symbolize the obtaining and collection of money and wealth. Crossroads Dirt           Crossroads’ dirt is a great addition to road opening spells. It is also especially useful in underworld journey work as it connects you to the gate keeper at the crossroads which you must pass through to descend into the underworld. Your Place of Employment           Tired of getting passed over for that promotion? Need a raise? Dirt from your place of employment can massively add to workings of this nature. It’s also useful to hex that co-worker or boss who just won’t give you a break. Railroad Dirt           Trains have been used for centuries to bring cargo in and take cargo away. Adding railroad dirt to your spell can aid in drawing it to you or pushing it from you. This isn’t a complete list of dirt that can be used in spell by any means. That’s because if you can think of a place that has dirt, it likely has […]

Yule Recipes: 13 Traditional & Modern Winter Solstice Meals & Beverages https://otherworldlyoracle.com/yule-recipes-traditional-modern/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=yule-recipes-traditional-modern https://otherworldlyoracle.com/yule-recipes-traditional-modern/#respond Thu, 21 Oct 2021 01:30:36 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7383 It’s almost time to break out your warm blankets, cozy slippers, and dutch ovens. Look, I know most pagans live for the Samhain season. But I most look forward to the Winter Solstice season every year. Particularly for the warm, hearty meals and drinks. I mean, truthfully, there’s more to it than just the food. But who am I kidding? The food is hands-down the best part! Here we give you our favorite 10 traditional and modern Yule recipes for the Winter sabbat season. Solstice Blessings! 13 Yule Recipes for Heartwarming (And Tummy-Filling) Meals and Drinks The Winter Holidays scream the colors of red and green, as well as heavy, rich flavors. Depending on where you live, the traditional Winter and holiday meals will differ. I think that’s half of the fun! Try making both traditional Yule fare as well as modern meals and alternatives. Include your own traditional Winter foods. Make these meals throughout the Winter season, as well as on the Yule sabbat. You won’t regret it. 1. Ham (In Place of a Roast Boar) *A Traditional Yet Modern Yule Recipe* To our Norse ancestors, the Winter Solstice (or Yule as they called it), was a time of being together and feasting. It was a time to give thanks to the gods for all they had. On Yule, a great boar was sacrificed in the name of the god Freyr and then eaten. Since most of us don’t have access to a wild boar for our Yule feasts, a ham or roast pork is a delicious substitution. Order a special honey-baked ham and have it delivered to your front door. OR try this delicious brown-sugar, mustard glazed ham recipe as your main entree next Yule. Pair it with traditional American sides like broccoli casserole and mashed potatoes. 2. Wassail *A Traditional Yule Recipe* Wassail is an ancient Yule tradition in the British Isles that still continues today. Hot wassail is essentially a hot cider drink infused with heady spices and fruit juices. There is more than one custom of wassailing, including going from door-to-door to visit neighbors and wish them luck. AND singing blessings in apple orchards to ensure a good harvest the following harvest season. Whether you have a local orchard or not, making hot wassail this Yuletide honors your ancestors from the Isles and the spirits of Yule. 3. Cioppino *Italian Seafood Soup* For Christmas and Yule If you’re Italian, you know how decadent Cioppino is as a Winter holiday meal. A tomato-based soup jam-packed with shellfish like clams, mussels, oysters, as well as calamari, fish, and basically any seafood you like. The seafood is NOT cheap, so this is what makes Cioppino such a special Yule dish. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to disclose our family recipe; HOWEVER, I’ve found one that’s pretty darn close. Find a Cioppino Recipe for Yule here. Don’t forget to add some crusty bread, polenta, and green herbs to this meal. The green herbs and red soup evoke all the Yule feels. 4. Surf and Turf *Steak and Crab* I don’t know where you live. But whether it’s out in the country or near the sea, surf and turf for the holidays is always a great choice. We can’t always afford steak and lobster year round, but like I said before, we try to go “all out” for Christmas and Yule every year. So save up your extra dough and indulge on some filets (or rib-eyes, whatever you can afford). Then pair your turf (steaks) with some rich seafood like lobster tails, snow crab, etc. This meal is a LOT of meat, so balance it out with a side of vegetables or mashed potatoes. 5. Prime Rib With Pureed Parsnip Prime rib. Yummy. One of my all-time favorite Yule meal recipes that any meat lover will drool over. Frankly, my favorite part of THIS meal is the horseradish dressing. Call me a weirdo. I can’t help but enjoy having my sinuses cleared out on Yule eve. This is a decadent dish and if you add pureed root vegetables like parsnip to it, you have a Winter Solstice meal perfect for nobility. Keeping in mind, you can substitute the parsnip for mashed potatoes OR roasted carrots. Any root veggie is traditional for Yule. 6. Eggnog (Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic) *Traditional American Recipe* You love it. Or you freaking hate it. Either way, eggnog made our list for Yule recipes. It’s just too darn prevalent around the Winter holidays. And to give you a brief history, eggnog apparently dates back to Medieval Times. In the thirteenth century, there was a drink called posset. The monks made and drank this beverage and it was made from milk, figs, and eggs. This may have been the origins of eggnog and over the centuries, folks decided to add liquor. Leave it to us partiers. Here’s a traditional eggnog recipe made from scratch. Of course you can always buy your eggnog from the store and simply add liquor and spices to it, if you’d like (you cheater you). I like thinking of eggnog as a magical way to encourage Spring to come soon, since eggs are a symbol of rebirth and regeneration. 7. Yule Log Recipe Ever made a Yule log? Like a real log decorated with greens, ribbons, and topped off with candles? Or thrown into the Yule fire? If not, don’t worry about it. You can always make one this year. PLUS you can make an EDIBLE yule log. It’s called cake. And it’s fantastic. It looks like a REAL yule log but tastes like you’ve died and gone to the Summerland. Try Ree Drummond’s Yule Log Recipe here. 8. Rum Cake Nothing says the Winter Solstice to me than a rum-soaked bunt cake…aka the rum cake. I have a few family members who enjoy making rum cakes every year and giving them as gifts. And, I’m lucky to be on the receiving end. Even luckier that these two women can be rather competitive. […]

11 Samhain Recipes: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks and Dessert https://otherworldlyoracle.com/samhain-recipes-meals-drinks-desserts/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=samhain-recipes-meals-drinks-desserts https://otherworldlyoracle.com/samhain-recipes-meals-drinks-desserts/#respond Tue, 21 Sep 2021 12:55:35 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7381 Samhain is around the corner…kitchen witches rejoice! ‘Tis the season of the pumpkin. Of aromatic spices. Of hot cider and apple pie. We connect with our ancestors and celebrate the end of the harvest on All Hallows Eve. And what’s one of the best ways to celebrate? Food, of course. In this post, we share our favorite Samhain recipes including breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and desserts! You’ll find both traditional foods and modern suggestions below. Samhain Recipes: Bountiful Breakfasts I don’t know about you, but I like celebrating Samhain all day long. Starting with sunrise. This year, in the Northern Hemisphere, Samhain Eve begins on a Sunday. So if you have Sunday off, consider making one or more of these Samhain recipes for breakfast! Don’t forget your enchanted cup of coffee or seasonal hot tea. 1. Butternut Squash Hash with Fried Eggs Next to apples and pumpkin, squash is the third in the holy trinity of Fall ingredients (at least in my witchy opinion). And butternut squash is just so soft and delicious to eat. For any meal. Celebrate the harvest season upon waking and have some butternut squash hash, eggs and bacon. The photo provided is from Paleo Running Mama and here’s her Paleo and Whole30 recipe for butternut squash hash. Not just tasty and seasonal, but it can also be a healthy Samhain recipe to start your sabbat. 2. Autumn Cinnamon Apple Pancakes Recipe for Samhain Morn Treat yourself this Samhain with apple pancakes in the morning. My kids go completely nuts for pancakes. And honestly, what screams witchy comfort food louder than pancakes with cinnamon, spices and apples? Apples are indeed a seasonal fruit, and with good reason, as they also represent the underworld, the harvest, the goddess, and all four elements. Cut an apple horizontally and you’ll find the 5-pointed star inside! Try this cinnamon apple pancake recipe. 3. Irish Boxty *Traditional Irish Samhain Recipe* If you’d like a list of Samhain foods with more traditional recipes, click here (this list from 2020 includes barnbrack and colcannon). Another traditional Irish recipe for Samhain is called boxty – essentially they are Irish potato cakes. A hearty addition to any breakfast or brunch. And, being made of potatoes, makes one’s Irish ancestors happy if given as an offering on All Hallows. Delicious Lunch Samhain Recipes Whether you want to indulge in something wickedly decadent OR stay healthy, we’ve got you covered with these two Samhain recipes for lunch. Both are in alignment with the Fall season and the Samhain sabbat. 4. Beer Cheese Soup I’m a bit of a cheesehead. And I don’t mean I’m from Wisconsin. I mean, I’m a cheese addict. Who doesn’t love cheese on literally everything? Cheese overall screams the Samhain season to me, particularly cheddar and gruyere. So when I heard there was something called beer cheese soup, I made it and then wanted to bathe in it for my traditional Samhain bath ritual (kidding…sort of). Here’s my favorite recipe for Samhain lunch: beer cheese soup. 5. Autumn Apple Salad for Samhain If you’re trying to stay health conscious and keep the pounds off before Yule, salads for lunch are truly the way to go. Adding apples to any salad truly gives it Samhain vibes. But if you really want to know what exactly to put into your Autumn Apple Salad, here it goes. Keep in mind – I’m not providing measurements. If you’ve made salads before, it’s pretty simple. It just takes some eye-ing it and don’t over-do it on the salad dressing! Ingredients: Spinach Dried cranberries Sliced honeycrisp (or a combination of fuji and granny smith) apples Feta cheese Chopped salted pecans Bacon (cooked and chopped) Vinaigrette: if you can find apple cider vinaigrette even better! (3-4 tbsp) Instructions: Toss spinach, cranberries, apple slices, pecans, and bacon in a large salad bowl. Sprinkle feta cheese on top. Gently pour vinaigrette dressing onto the salad. Toss to distribute dressing and cheese evenly. Hearty Samhain Dinner Recipes Every year I tell my family I’m going to dress up for Halloween/Samhain. And every year I struggle. Why? Because I’m typically too busy making dinner for everyone, eating, then cleaning up and getting my kids ready to go trick-or-treating. SO I need to remember to make SIMPLE Samhain meals from now on. Here’s a few you could try. 6. Easy One Tray Roasted Chicken and Fall Veggies Tasty’s recipe for one tray roasted chicken thighs and vegetables is EASY and perfect as a Samhain recipe. If you’re a mom who can’t find the time to do everything on Halloween, this meal might be the right one for you. You can even prep it all ahead and stick it in the fridge until you’re ready to cook it. I do one thing differently from the recipe – I add minced garlic under the skin of the chicken thighs. Replace the fingerling potatoes with chopped sweet potatoes, if you want to go a bit more Autumn-looking. See my actual version in the photo below: 7. Pomegranate – Soy Glazed Fish Filets How is pomegranate glazed fish a Samhain recipe for supper? Pomegranate is a traditional Samhain food, as it represents Persephone and her journey to the Underworld every Autumn season. The choice of filet is up to you, but I’ve made this recipe with everything from grouper to snapper to salmon. If you can get it fresh, this is best. And be sure you buy natural pomegranate juice. In addition, I roast green beans or brussel sprouts with this meal and it is always a hit. If you’re a devotee of Hecate, this is a goddess-pleasing-offering as well! If you’re looking for more Samhain dinner ideas click here. Drinks for All Hallows Eve 8. Hot Apple Cider *A Traditional American Samhain Drink* When the Wheel of the Year turns, and Fall comes back around, I get excited about all of the fun drinks! Sure you can drink apple cider in the Summer, if you really wanted to, […]

Lavender Magical Properties & 8 Powerful Lavender Magical Uses https://otherworldlyoracle.com/lavender-magical-properties/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lavender-magical-properties https://otherworldlyoracle.com/lavender-magical-properties/#comments Wed, 07 Jul 2021 15:03:47 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7143 Ahhh lavender. It’s one of those aromatic herbs that you either love or hate. But I believe most of us love it. The herb of beauty was known all over the ancient world and was once used as a form of currency. In today’s society, lavender is found in everything from lotions to tea. And it’s particularly a favorite in the magical community. In this article, we explore lavender magical properties and give you detailed ideas for lavender magical uses. What is Lavender? Lavender, Lavandula, are a species of flowering herbs in the mint family. It grows native in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa and was brought to the New World centuries ago. It now grows in gardens worldwide and is a favorite of herbalists. The plant itself is an annual or perennial that lives for a short period of time and can be a small herb or large bush. The flowers jut out above the plant in whorls and are typically purple, light purple, lilac, bluish or even blackish purple. Lavender is used in culinary pursuits, as well as aromatherapy, medicinal remedies and magical spells. The flowers are the favored part of the plant but the leaves may be used as well. They just have a different scent. Lavender Lore and History In ancient Rome, lavender was so loved that it was once used as currency. Roman soldiers bathed in it and used it to perfume their clothing. Prostitutes used lavender as a perfume to hide bad aromas and to attract customers. Therefore lavender is long associated with seduction and love. Ancient Egyptians were no strangers to the power of lavender – they used this aromatic herb in the mummification process. The name lavender actually comes from the latin word Lavare, meaning “to wash“. Therefore lending to the purifying qualities of the plant. Lavender is mentioned in the Bible as spikenard and has been used as a means to ward off evil for thousands of years. During the Plague, people wore it on their person to protect from contracting the illness. “Lavenders” were washerwomen in Medieval times who washed clothes using lavender water and scented linens with it. I could go on and on about lavender’s history and folklore! Lavender Magical Properties Depending on the tradition and region, lavender magical properites will vary. Here we give you our understanding of it. But take what serves you and leave the rest as you see fit. Planets: Neptune, MercuryEnergy: FeminineElement: Water, AirGods/Goddesses: Selene, Hecate, Medea, Circe, Saturn, Mother MaryLavender Magical Properties: Beauty, Love, Purification, Peace, Healing, Sleep, Relieve Anxiety, Vitality, Protection, Seduction, Death Process (transitioning) Medicinally, lavender tea eases nausea, relieves headache, enhances appetite and aids in falling and staying asleep. Lavender Magical Uses In addition to learning lavender’s amazing magical properties, it’s helpful to learn the various ways in which to use lavender in your magic. I always make sure to have a stock of lavender in my herb cabinet. This herb is extremely versatile in magick and is truly a staple for any witch or magical practitioner. I’m sure in addition to lavender’s magical uses here, you’ll come up with your own the longer you practice. 1. Lavender Candle Spells There’s nothing as simple and as powerful as a candle spell. Use lavender in candle spells for love, beauty, healing, anxiety, and more. I’ve even found that candles scented with lavender are a boon. Dip your candle in a little bit of oil, then gently roll the candle in a pinch of lavender. Or lightly sprinkle a pinch of lavender over the top of a large candle. Loading the inside of candles with a bit of lavender is also effective. 2. Lavender Tea Magic One of my favorite magical things in the kitchen is making tea with intention. Lavender is edible and medicinal and can be infused in hot water for various purposes. As it has an incredibly floral taste, I like to mix it with other herbs like rosemary or chamomile. But essentially you’re drinking lavender’s magical properties in a warm, soothing beverage. Drink it on a New Moon to cleanse your aura, on a Full Moon to increase beauty, or on a Waning Moon to release anxiety. 3. Lavender Oil for Magical Spells Infuse a little lavender into a bottle of olive, jojoba or sunflower oil. Allow it to sit for 2 weeks in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Then strain the lavender and voila! Lavender oil for magical uses including: beauty, love, cleansing and more. I love using my lavender oil to rub on candles for healing, love and peace. In addition, anoint your goddess statue with a little lavender oil to consecrate and bless it. Bless your windows and doors with lavender oil to bring peace and harmony into the household. 4. Lavender Magical Uses As Cleansing Soap Purchase or make lavender soap or body wash. Wash away negativity and invoke inner and outer beauty every time you bathe or shower. Lavender is a beautifully purifying herb used since ancient times to not only wash but perfume away any nasty aromas. It will do the same for magical practitioners in modern times. It’s particularly powerful on New and Waning Moons in cleansing rituals. 5. Lavender Simmer Pot and Spray In the Spring and Summer, I love making simmer pots on the stove. It’s an easy way to cleanse your space and set a mood throughout your house. Put a small pot of water on the stove and add a pinch or two of lavender and rosemary. Sometimes I also add a lemon slice. Then let the water simmer gently and allow the herbs to diffuse throughout the kitchen and your house. It’s purifying, invokes peace, and smells divine! When you’re done with the simmer pot, strain out a bit of the herbs, put the remnants in a spray bottle and spritz around the rest of the house. It gently raises the vibes in your home! 6. Lavender Spell Bags Another great […]

Herbs for Protection: 20 of Our Favorites to Keep Negative Energy Away https://otherworldlyoracle.com/herbs-for-protection/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=herbs-for-protection https://otherworldlyoracle.com/herbs-for-protection/#comments Thu, 17 Jun 2021 21:20:42 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7052 Whether you’re dealing with a creeping ex, an intrusive ghost, or just plain want to block negative energy, spiritual protection is a must-do. On Otherworldly Oracle, we preach often about having a personal protection magick routine. Cleansing, invocation, sealing and warding are all essential steps to protecting your home and yourself. Salt, powders, oils, symbols and herbs are all helpful in securing your safe, sacred space. So, in this article, we focus on our favorite 20 herbs for protection. And hope that you can use them in your practice too! Herbs for Protection There are literally hundreds of herbs for protection on the market, growing in gardens, and growing in the wild. Walk out your front door and I guarantee there’s at least one tree or plant with protective properties growing near your home. Walk down the spice aisle at your grocery store and you’ll find a plethora of helpful herbs right at your fingertips. Here’s just a few of our favorites: 1. Rosemary: My FAVORITE Herb for Protection! Rosemary, Salvia rosmarinus, is one of my personal all-time favorite herbs for protection. As the Aunts in Practical Magic say, “keep rosemary by your garden gate.” There’s a reason for this – it protects your garden from pests and your home from spiritual intrusion. Rosemary is purifying and when burned in the home acts to banish negative energy and unwanted spirits. Add rosemary to the bath to cleanse your aura. According to Scott Cunningham, “place rosemary beneath the pillow to ensure a good sleep and drive away nightmares.” 2. Thorns While not necessarily one particular herb, thorns from any plant or tree are great for protection spells and charms. The thorn itself physically protects its plant from harm. Therefore when thorns are used in magick, they have the same effect. Add thorns to witch bottles, spell jars, bags and amulets. Harvest your thorns from rose bushes, bougainvilleas, cacti, honey locust trees, citrus and hawthorn trees. 3. Oak The oak tree is strong and is regarded as protective by many cultures. The Druids are named for the Oak and believed it to be sacred. Use oak tree bark, leaves, and acorns in your protection magick. Three oak leaves added to the bath will cleanse away negative attachments and bring wisdom. Place three acorns in a small bag and tie to your front door to protect the home. This herb for protection also wards off illness and bad luck. 4. Rose Witches love roses, as do muggles. They are beautiful, seemingly fragile flowers that produce a lovely aroma. But, surprisingly, the rose is also a potent herb for protection. Think of the thorns that grace the stems on either side, protecting the bush itself from pests and the elements. The rose will do the same for you and your magick. Add rose thorns, hips, or petals to your workings of all kinds. Drink rose hips and buds in a tea for protection of self. Add rose thorns to bags, bottles, amulets, etc. 5. Black Pepper: An Unexpected Herb for Protection Black pepper is often overlooked as an herb for protection. Heck, it’s overlooked as a magical herb in general. But here’s the thing – black pepper is just as potent as red pepper with keeping spirits and negative energy at bay. It’s connected to the fire element and to the planet Mars. Traditionally, peppercorns have been used to ward off the evil eye. Add pepper to your home protection powders and sprinkle over your thresholds and windowsills. 6. Salt While technically not an herb, salt is one of the most powerful ingredients to use in your protective magick. Witches use salt to encircle their property, mark the boundaries of a magical circle, and more. Salt sprinkled over your threshold is a powerful way to absorb negativity and ward off spirits. There’s a reason grandma threw salt over her left shoulder if the salt was spilled. Pink, red, and black salt are all effective for protection spells and rituals. Learn more about salt magick here. Listen to our PROTECTION Magick Podcast here: 7. Red Pepper: HOT Herb of Protection Red pepper is a powerful warding herb for protection. This includes red pepper flakes, chili powder, cayenne pepper and whole chili peppers. A string of red peppers hung by the front door wards off negative energy and brings prosperity. Encircle your protection candle with chili powder to send negative spirits away. Mix red pepper into home protection powders, add it to spell jars, and add it to your meals for extra protection. 8. Rue I’ve grown rue in my garden for a few years now and never regret having it on hand. Ruta graveolens, also called herb of grace and rue, which has been used medicinally and in cooking for centuries in ancient Rome, Greece and Africa. In mythology, rue was the only plant the basilisk couldn’t destroy. Rue can be harmful to the skin, so be careful if you plan to use it topically. It can cause lesions if applied and then going out into the sun. Rue is powerful in banishing rituals to rid yourself of unwanted spirits and attachments. 9. Agrimony I’m not kidding when I say I go agro for agrimony. One of my absolute favorite herbs for protection, agrimony is a powerful warding herb when sprinkled around the property. Traditionally, agrimony protects the wearer from malevolent fairies, tricksters, and evil of all kinds. This herb for protection is also great to use in reversal spells, when a witch has sent a spell on you, send it back to them. 10. Angelica: Angels’ Herb of Protection Connected to and named for the angels, angelica is another herb for protection that’s effective in ritual and spellwork. It’s been used for centuries in good luck workings including for gambling, and in doing so wards off bad luck. Grow it on your property to keep negative energy at bay. Add to the bath to break hexes and cleanse the aura. 11. Dragon’s Blood Dragon’s […]

Kitchen Witch Dinner Recipes: Our 10 FAVORITE Magical Meals https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witch-dinner-recipes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kitchen-witch-dinner-recipes https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witch-dinner-recipes/#respond Thu, 29 Apr 2021 21:59:13 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=6627 Give me my dutch oven, fresh herbs from the garden, a glass of wine and Norse music. And I’ll make MAGICK in no time! I’ve been cooking and baking magically for the past decade. And so I’ve developed quite an inventory of recipe cards and cookbooks. I’ve cooked many different kinds of foods from all over the world. And in this article, I’m spilling the tea on my 15 FAVORITE kitchen witch dinner recipes of all time. NOTE: there are recipes with meat and dairy. Kitchen Witch Dinner Recipes Most of the kitchen witch dinner recipes here require time and effort. I wouldn’t say they are for beginner cooks, and I recommend cooking them on days you are off of work. OR for special holidays and sabbats. And, as always, if you grow your own herbs and vegetables use them in your kitchen magick. It makes your meals that much more healthy and powerful. In addition, set your intentions while cooking each meal to amplify their effects. 1. Summer Chicken Marbella: The Best Kitchen Witch Recipe for Summer Dinners Summer chicken marbella is one of my favorite kitchen witch recipes of all time. If you have a complex palate and enjoy Mediterranean food (specifically Spanish or Moroccan dishes), you’ll love this meal. It has a great balance of salty, savory, sweet and acidic flavors. I typically make it for special occasions. Moreover, the last time I made it for the Summer Solstice. And everyone loved it! I’m not going to give the full recipe, so you’ll find the FULL recipe here on Tasty.co. But I will provide the ingredients’ magical properties here: Chicken: protection of the home and family Kosher salt: divine protection and purification Garlic: warding and protection Oregano: protection, love and luck Red plums: love and relaxation (plums are an aphrodisiac too) Apricot: love and sweetening the spirit Red wine vinegar: health, vitality, and joy Olive oil: fidelity, peace and protection Green olives: see above (same as oil) Capers: love and protection Bay leaves: protection from psychic attack Light brown sugar: sweetening one’s disposition, love Dry rose wine: friendship and happiness Couscous: prosperity and nourishment Basil: love and abundance Two things I substituted/changed: I used a bubbly rose wine in a can instead of buying a whole bottle of dry rose wine. Instead of kosher salt, I used Himalayan pink salt (use the salt you already have). I used oregano, basil and bay from my garden. Put it on a pretty plate. Then enjoy and share it with your family on Litha! (photo below) 2. Charcuterie Do you like fancy meats, cheeses, and breads? If you haven’t had charcuterie yet, you’re missing out. This kitchen witch recipe is great for fancy sabbat dinners for a smaller crowd. I’ve also made charcuterie to honor my French ancestors. The key to crafting a delicious charcuterie board is to select higher quality ingredients and provide a nice variety. Typical charcuterie boards consist of: meats, cheeses, crackers and bread, salted nuts, olives, dried fruits, honey, preserves, and pickles. Present a mixture of salty, savory, sweet and acidic flavors (as seen below). This kitchen witch dinner recipe also makes for a great date night meal. Just add wine! Ingredients: salted cashews, brie cheese, honey, crackers, proschiutto, salami, fontina cheese, local honey, dried apricots, and preserves. Add to this more cheeses, meats, etc. depending on how many people are eating. Display it on a wooden charcuterie or cutting board. 3. Herb Roasted Chicken I make this kitchen witch dinner recipe often, not just on special occasions. Once you’ve made it a few times, it becomes second nature. HOWEVER, it’s so darn good that you might want to reserve it for Mabon or Samhain. Chicken is representative of protection of the family and nourishment. The most important ingredient in this recipe (besides the chicken) is the lemon. The lemon stuffed inside releases it’s steam and keeps the chicken meat super moist. Promise you it’s the best chicken you’ve ever had in your life. And will be one of your favorite witchy recipes. To make it even more special, add fresh herbs from your garden. Ingredients: whole chicken, cleaned and innards removed: chicken is for protection of the family and nourishment/healing 2 lemons, cut into chunks (unpeeled): purification one onion, cut into chunks: wards off illness handful of fresh herbs: rosemary, thyme, and lemon balm are best! (each herb has its own magical properties) half stick of salted butter: nourishment generous amount of salt and pepper: purification and protection Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Clean the chicken: remove the innards and wash the outside. Pat dry with paper towels. Squeeze a lemon chunk into the chicken’s cavern and then stuff the lemon chunks, onion pieces, and fresh herbs into the chicken. Tie the legs closed. Rub salt and pepper all over the chicken’s skin.  Set on pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes per pound.  When there’s 40 minutes left on the chicken (or before the chicken skin gets too crispy/burns), melt your butter and pour over the chicken. Return to the oven. Every 10-15 minutes following, baste the chicken with the juices in the pan.  Remove from oven and let cool. Cut and serve. 4. Rustic Chicken Thighs & Vegetables I’m obsessed with the website Tasty.co. They frequently update with new recipes, and many of the recipes have video tutorials. Save your favorite recipes to your Tasty “favorites” list and return to them later. My newest favorite kitchen witch recipe is their easy one tray chicken thighs and vegetables. It’s simple to make, healthy and delicious. One thing I did differently: I smeared the garlic underneath the chicken skin. Here’s the ingredients’ magical properties: Fingerling potatoes: abundance, stability, grounding and protection Carrots: clarity and fertility Red onion: Banishing negative energies and preventing illness Salt: purification and protection Black pepper: protection Rosemary: prosperity and health Olive oil: healing and peace Garlic: wards off negative energy Chicken thighs: nourishment and protection of family 5. Kitchen Witch Tools: 15 Essentials for the Pro Kitchen Magician https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witch-tools/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kitchen-witch-tools https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witch-tools/#comments Sat, 10 Apr 2021 16:31:40 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=6612 What would life be like without the scent of homemade bread floating out of the kitchen? Without that familiar clink and clank of pots and pans as mom prepares Sunday dinner? The legit kitchen witch needs the right tools, ingredients, AND magick. Here’s my 15 essential kitchen witch tools for modern times AND ways to use them magically. First, Must Every Kitchen Witch Have These Exact Tools? When I first started cooking, I had a limited supply of tools and ingredients. But I didn’t let that stop me. So don’t let it stop you! If you don’t have the money to afford all of the kitchen witch tools listed here, don’t fret. One day you will, so in the meantime, choose more affordable substitions for your tools and ingredients. And the most important thing? Put YOUR energy and intention into each meal, herbal tea, and brew you make. Then it will all turn out fabulous. Our 15 Favorite Kitchen Witch Tools and How to Use Them Keep in mind, it’s taken me fifteen years of cooking and kitchen witchery to acquire all of the tools below. Each year, ask your significant other or family member to purchase one of these for you as a gift. Find some of these items at second hand shops or on sale online. Take your time. The right kitchen witch tools will come to you. 1. Dutch Oven: An ESSENTIAL Kitchen Witch Tool My absolute favorite kitchen witch tool is my dutch oven. In fact, I have two but shhh don’t tell anyone. The one I use in my kitchen the most is a Le Creuset and is fire engine red. Every time I use it, it just feels like a witchy experience. I have another dutch oven (cast iron from Target – thirty bucks!), I call it my cauldron, and I use it outside over an open fire. What can you do with a dutch oven as a kitchen witch? SOOOO much! My kitchen dutch oven is used to make magical stews, soups, roasts, homemade bread, mulled wine and ciders. My outside dutch oven (cauldron) I use to bubble unguents and herbal concoctions over an open fire. I also use it to burn loose incense on charcoals and to burn petition papers. 2. Instant Pot For the kitchen witch on the go, the Instant Pot is a modern dream. Yes, it’s similar to your classic dutch oven or cauldron, but it’s kicked up a few notches! The Instant Pot is a pressure cooker, similar to what the pros use, that cooks your food at lightning speeds. It cooks rice in five minutes. Whole pot roasts that would usually take 8 hours in a slow cooker take 1-2 hours in my instant pot! I’ve also made baked potatoes, tamales, soups, stews, macaroni and more. If you love to make magick in the kitchen but don’t have a ton of time, the instant pot is your best friend. 3. Tea Kettle Whether it’s electric or on the stove, a tea kettle is a necessary tool for the kitchen witch. One of my favorite forms of magick is crafting, brewing and drinking tea. The tea kettle is very old and most assuredly has been used by kitchen witches for ages. I prefer a kettle on the stove and one that whistles is even better! Draw a symbol in the air over your kettle to quicken the boiling process. Buy one on Amazon, at a second hand shop, or wherever is affordable. 4. Tea Infuser Continuing with our tea talk, if you make your own herbal tea blends, you’ll need a good tea infuser. There are tea balls (cheap) as well as cup infusers that act as a way to infuse your hot water with the herbs of your choice. This prevents the tea leaves from being in your cup. However, if you like having the leaves in your cup to “read” when you’re done drinking, more power to you! You can purchase these online almost anywhere. And don’t forget: you can drink tea for magical intentions PLUS craft teas as offerings to your ancestors or gods. In addition, using tea as an herbal mist is effective as a cleansing method for one’s space. 5. Spoons and Spatulas Everyone needs an assortment of utensils including large spoons, spatulas, tongs, ladles, etc. The kitchen witch doesn’t need a wand, he or she uses their magically charged spoons! Purchase special kitchen witch spoons here at spiritnest.com. I like the spoons with witchy symbols and moons. It adds an extra magical touch to every meal you make! But if all you have is a plain wooden spoon, a hand-me-down spatula, and utensils, this is ALL you need! 6. Chef’s Knife Yes, a block of knives is a boon in any kitchen witch’s space. HOWEVER, throw out that block because you only truly need one knife in your life. The chef’s knife. My husband gave it to me as a gift last Yule and let me tell you. I haven’t had to use another knife since. Slice through potatoes, meat, and all manner of herbs like butter. While I use my chef’s knife, I imagine it’s an alchemical tool that aids in turning ingredients into magical meals with just my intention. I don’t recommend using a chef’s knife for things outside of cooking, though. It’s too sharp and they’re typically too expensive to use for anything except food. Use your old (dull) kitchen knives for carving candles, cutting twine, etc. 7. Cookbooks and Herbal Guides Where would I be without my favorite cookbooks and herbal guides? In cold depths of Niflheim, I tell you. I have an entire shelf with cookbooks of all kinds: antique cookbooks gifted to me by ancestors and modern cookbooks for easy meals and multi-cultural dishes. My favorite cookbooks include: The Art of French Cooking by Julie Child, Salt Fat Acid Heat by Samin Nosrat, Celtic Folklore Cooking by Joanne Asala, The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook (don’t laugh, […]

Herbal Sprays: How to Make Sage Spray & More Magical Spray Recipes https://otherworldlyoracle.com/herbal-sprays/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=herbal-sprays https://otherworldlyoracle.com/herbal-sprays/#comments Thu, 01 Apr 2021 14:27:37 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=6551 Wouldn’t you like to have an herbal spray that makes negative vibes disappear? Sure, you can buy sprays in a store or online, but what about making your own? Making your own herbal concoctions for magical purposes makes the effect that much stronger. Here we learn how to make sage spray, as well as magical herbal sprays for intentions including peace and harmony, money and love. What Is A Magical Herbal Spray? Essentially, just what it sounds like: a spray made of herbal-infused water and/or other liquids then sprayed in the air or elsewhere for magical intentions. There are different ways to make magical herbal sprays – the difference comes down to intention, ingredients, and preservation. I’ve found they work best for the following intentions: cleansing, bringing peace and harmony, love, and prosperity to a household. Using this method of cleansing is often a lot better for people who have allergies to smoke from herb bundles. Or if you set off your fire alarm too much! How to Make Sage Spray For Cleansing Your Space Let’s get down to it. Here’s how to make sage spray to cleanse negative energy and entities from your space. This type has alcohol as a preservative so it should last some time. What You’ll Need: A spray bottle (small or medium sized) Distilled water 1-2 tsp vodka (or 20%+ grain alcohol) Sage (fresh or dried, a handful depending on how much water you’re using and how big your spray bottle is. You’ll have to eye it. If you use fresh sage, use your mortar and pestle to gently press on the leaves to release their oils before use. Note: I use culinary sage instead of white.) Sea or Himalayan Salt: a pinch What To Do: Put a small to medium sized pot on the stove and add your distilled water. Make sure it’s enough to fill your bottle, whatever size you choose. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat to a simmer and add the sage leaves. As you’re making this herbal concoction, tell each ingredient it’s job. Talk to the spray and tell it your intentions. This activates the ingredients. Let simmer for 6-10 minutes then remove from heat. Add a pinch of salt. Allow to cool then strain the herbs out. Add your vodka. Pour into spray bottle, cap and shake gently. Open the windows and spray around your home to remove negative energy and entities. Label and keep somewhere dark and cool (cabinet or pantry works great!) Use within a few weeks to a month, preferrably. Magical Herbal Spray for Peace and Harmony in the Household If there’s been any discord in the home, first I cleanse then I spray for peace and prosperity. It works almost instantly! This kind of spray doesn’t last long so you should use it the day you make it. A small bottle is best so you don’t waiste as much. What You’ll Need: Small pot Moon water (up to 1 cup) Lavender (1 tsp) Passion flower (1 tsp) Small spray bottle What To Do: Set your pot on the stove and pour in the moon water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer. Add your lavender and passion flower, all the while visualizing and/or speaking your intentions. This method serves as a simmering potpourri too! Double the power! Simmer for 7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain the herbs. Pour herb-infused water into the spray bottle. Spray around the home or your space to promote peace and harmony. Use this spray as soon as you make it, as there is no preservative in it. How to Make An Herbal Spray for Money Money Money This is a great recipe for increasing the money and prosperity in your home or in your business. If you want to make a big batch and preserve it, add 1-2 tsp of vodka (like with the sage spray recipe above). It’s also much easier to make because there’s no stove or pot involved. What You’ll Need: Small to medium spray bottle (if you make a larger batch, add your vodka!) Distilled water Basil Essential Oil (3-5 drops) Rosemary Essential Oil (3 drops) Peppermint Essential Oil (3 drops) 2 tsp Vodka (if you’re making a large batch that you want to preserve) What To Do: Add your water to the spray bottle. Then add your basil, rosemary, and peppermint oils while visualizing money pouring into your bank account. Like the flood gates have been opened! Next add your vodka if you’re making a batch you want to preserve. Shake gently and continue visualizing that money, Honey! Spray around your home or business and say, “money flow freely to me, for the highest good of all, so mote it be!” Label and store if you made a big batch and used vodka as a preservative. Make Them YOUR OWN: Experiment! My favorite part of my magical practice is experimenting and making my own recipes. You should do the same. Try out different herbs for various intentions. Rose and lavender for love. Rue for banishing. Lemon balm for relieving anxiety. Try different methods of making sprays including infusing herbs into water on the stove and simply using essential oils. Experiment with different kinds of water if you’re not preserving your mixture, for example moon water, sun water, or water from rivers or the ocean etc. Record the results and any faux-pas in your grimoire so you can tweak your recipes as needed.
