Namely – the acoustic guitar. I recently came to a point where I realized, if I didn’t start learning now I might never have another chance. Getting to the end of my life and regretting not doing the things I could have done is one of my biggest fears. SO, I purchased a guitar and started taking lessons on a weekly basis. And I realized something amazing – the guitar can be used to make your own unique form of magick. To connect with the gods. To manifest. Here’s how to cast guitar spells. A Brief History of Music As MAGICK When I say music IS magick, I’m not making it up. It’s not pretend. It’s history. But before we dive into its origins, tell me. When you hear that certain song come on, does it stir strong emotions in you? Memories, either good or bad, that seem to have been forgotten but were pulled to the surface by lyrics or musical notes? Music makes us dance, cry, smile and even has the power to evoke fear (think horror movie soundtracks). That’s the power of music. Now on to the history. In Ancient Egypt, the music came from the gods, namely the goddess Bat (who later would become Hathor). They believed music helped to civilize humanity. Some of the first instruments include the lyre, reed flutes, and drums of various kinds. Musical instruments have been found in some of the oldest places, including the ancient civilization of Ur (modern day Iraq), Greece, throughout Africa, pretty much everywhere. Our ancient ancestors made music as a form of entertainment, but also as a means of preserving their oral history and culture. To teach lessons. To make magic. In Ancient Celtic cultures, the bard was a person with special talents. He or she kept the oral histories of their people through the spoken word and poetry, as well as through music. Bards were typically employed by nobility or the wealthy, and resided at the family’s estate. Not only to tell stories and make music but to collect and preserve that family’s history. Depending on how far back we go in time, most people (or none at all) could read or write. SO keeping a bard in employment was necessity. And who could enchant a crowd like a bard playing the harp and speaking heroic tales of brave warriors, powerful sorcerers, and saints? I could go on and on about the history of music as a form of magic, but I think you get the picture. To solidify the concept, though – know that in the Middle Ages the Church banned certain forms of music and even certain notes when played together. Why would they ban music if it didn’t have some sort of innate, otherworldly power? To learn more about the history of witchcraft IN music, read this article at Flood Magazine. Are You a Musical Witch? Music has been in my family for decades. And, more recently, I discovered it’s been in my family for centuries. I truly believe music runs through our veins. And if you study the history of music, the ancients believed it was a source of incredible power. It connected us to the Otherworld, kept the people’s stories alive and taught valuable lessons. Musicians were highly valued people in ancient societies around the world: from the Celts to the Egyptians. And it wasn’t just because they made pretty sounds. If your ancestors or family members are musically-inclined, you’ll likely to be musically inclined. Maybe you’re saying, but I’m tone deaf or I can’t sing. You don’t have to be able to sing to be musically-inclined. There are dozens of instruments for you to try! Drums (traditional and handheld), guitar, bass, keyboard/piano, violin, harp, I could go on and on. If one doesn’t appeal to you, try another. If you’ve always been drawn to music in a way that no one else seems to understand, you’re likely a music witch. Music witches also tend to have a LOT of the air element in their natal charts. Air is the element of communication and inspiration (hello, MUSIC). Are you an air sign? Aquarius, Gemini or Libra? Check your moon and rising signs, too. Drummers will see a lot of the earth element in their natal chart. The elements also correlate to specific instruments. Are you a writer? Love to sing things into existence? You can use music to make magick, to connect with your ancestors and gods, and much more. Signs and Synchronicities: Is the Music Calling You? When I decided to pick up the guitar, it was strange. It was like my ancestors and guides urged me forward with dreams, signs, and synchronicities. I started seeing the guitar everywhere. I was even shown a siren playing a violin in a book (copyright Lucy Cavendish). Randomly, mind you. I knew it meant I was on the right path. What does this mean to you? Ask your guides to send you signs. To confirm you’re headed down the right path. If you’re not, they’ll tell you. Trust me. First, Acquiring Your MAGICAL Guitar (Or Instrument) When I first began lessons, I purchased an affordable Yamaha guitar off of Amazon. I know. I know. Judge me, if you’d like. I needed one quickly and many of the guitars through the music stores were on backorder. Including the PERFECT guitar for me – a moonflower Luna guitar. I saw this guitar and knew it was for me – an emerald green acoustic, 6-string adorned with moonflower vines, a hummingbird moth, and the FULL MOON at the top of the neck. It screamed magick to me. Not to mention, I’ve grown moonflowers in my garden for years and have used them in my magick. It seemed this guitar was made for me. So I ordered it. And waited for months. Until…one day…it came! If you’re unable to afford an expensive instrument, just hang in there. […]

Graveyard Dirt, Crossroads & Church Dirt (Or How to Use Soil In Spells) https://otherworldlyoracle.com/graveyard-dirt-in-spells/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=graveyard-dirt-in-spells https://otherworldlyoracle.com/graveyard-dirt-in-spells/#respond Sun, 24 Oct 2021 12:59:51 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=7548 Everything in nature has magickal properties. And when I say everything, I’m even talking about dirt. Dirt and soil have been used across cultures in folk magick for centuries including Hoodoo, Norse, Celtic, and in Indigenous nations around the globe. So, what’s so special about dirt? And why all the buzz over graveyard dirt and the like? Magical History and Basic Properties of Dirt For one thing, dirt is part of the Earth element. It can and has been used in spells and rituals to physically represent Earth, fertility and prosperity. Secondly, if you’ve ever made a mud pie, dirt mixed with water can make a clay-like substance in many instances. Peoples used this knowledge to create body adornment paint in various shades from brown to white to red ochre. In fact, red ochre is the oldest form of face and body paint known to exist. Now that we have a little background on the use of dirt among varying cultures, let’s dive into sympathetic magickal use. Any time you use an ingredient that symbolizes your intention and is used to represent that intention, it’s known as sympathetic magick. So, how do we use dirt to represent our intentions in our spellwork? It’s actually a really easy answer: you collect dirt from a symbolic location that aligns with your intentions and the type of working you are trying to manifest. Here are some examples of different types of dirt, where they can be found, and uses. Remember, this is just a starting point. If you think of symbolism not listed here and would like to use it in that way, by all means GO FOR IT! Graveyard Dirt           Graveyard dirt can be used to hex or curse, speak with the dead, or aid in a variety of spells. The reason for this is because, traditionally,  you would seek out the grave of a person who could help you manifest. Confused? Ok, it goes like this. Let’s say you are doing a prosperity spell. Who do you think is a person that could help with that intention? I say try the grave of a banker or a wealthy aristocrat. Be careful about your selection and always do your research. If it’s a benefic spell, avoid the graves of people who suffered extreme trauma or those who may be unwell. And you can search unwell spirits here on Otherworldly Oracle if you’re not sure how to discern them. By the same token, if you want to work malefic magick, the grave of a person who suffered the same fate you’re wanting to induce is recommended. Due to modern laws regarding cemeteries and graveyards, you must have a purpose for digging dirt on someone’s grave. The most common-sense approach is to take flowers with you to offer to the deceased. You need to leave an offering anyway. And this gives you a perfectly normal reason to be digging on a grave. Your Front and Back Yard           Dirt from your own front yard is an excellent addition to any spells that involve the protection, peace, and/or safe return of the family and/or property.  Adding dirt from your property is an excellent addition to herbal warding mixes as well sprinkling it in the shoes of family and friends to ensure they return safely. Collecting and using dirt from the four corners of your property is extra powerful. Church Dirt           Church dirt can be used for cleansing, purification, healing, protection, mending relationships and even in matters of justice. Enemy’s House Dirt           Dirt collected from an enemy’s house is potent in hex and curse work. The reason to collect the dirt would be to have a physical item from your enemy in order to target the spell at them. However, because it’s the dirt of the property, it will target all who live in the dwelling unless you specify otherwise. Use with caution! Courthouse Dirt           Courthouse dirt is great for legal, justice, and truth matters. Police Station Dirt           Police station dirt is great for protection, law keep away, and justice spells. Jail Dirt           Jail dirt is great for law keep away and protection spells. One common use is to sprinkle it along the baseboards of the home to invoke energetic bars of steel to protect the home’s occupants. Hospital Dirt           This dirt can be gathered from the hospital or any other healing facility. As you probably have guessed, hospital dirt is excellent to use in healing works. CAUTION: If you are using it to physically heal someone, be sure they are also seeking professional medical help. Healing is a sticky business because if someone is severely ill, the best way to heal them may be in death. This dirt is similar to graveyard dirt in ways as it can also be used for malefic reasons. Bank Dirt           This dirt can be used for prosperity, abundance, money, and employment spells. Since banks are where the majority of the world keeps their money, its dirt can symbolize the obtaining and collection of money and wealth. Crossroads Dirt           Crossroads’ dirt is a great addition to road opening spells. It is also especially useful in underworld journey work as it connects you to the gate keeper at the crossroads which you must pass through to descend into the underworld. Your Place of Employment           Tired of getting passed over for that promotion? Need a raise? Dirt from your place of employment can massively add to workings of this nature. It’s also useful to hex that co-worker or boss who just won’t give you a break. Railroad Dirt           Trains have been used for centuries to bring cargo in and take cargo away. Adding railroad dirt to your spell can aid in drawing it to you or pushing it from you. This isn’t a complete list of dirt that can be used in spell by any means. That’s because if you can think of a place that has dirt, it likely has […]

Snow Spells: Make Magick with ICE and SNOW, Magic Properties & More https://otherworldlyoracle.com/snow-spells-ice-magick/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-spells-ice-magick https://otherworldlyoracle.com/snow-spells-ice-magick/#comments Sat, 20 Feb 2021 16:48:17 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=6312 Depending where you live, you might get snow every Winter. You might love the snow or hate it. But one thing is for sure – snow is one of the gods’ most beautiful creations. Here we identify snow’s magic properties, ice magic properties, and look at the many ways to cast snow spells for various intentions. Grab your magical shovel and dig in! The Magick of Snow Days Remember being a kid and having a snow day? It meant not going to school. It meant taking your sled to the tallest hill in your neighborhood and sledding down as fast as possible. Where I grew up in the Northeast, snow days were coveted by all the kids. I remember listening for our county’s school snow days to be announced on the radio and cheering with delight. And as soon as you were done making snow angels, sledding with your friends, and having snowball fights, you’d go inside and have a nice hot cup of cocoa. Now, don’t get me wrong. I realize snow days for adults are quite a different matter. We have to shovel our driveways, brush the ice off windshields, pipes might burst, the salt sticks to our cars and many other wonderful things. But instead of complaining, why not use snow and ice to your magical advantage? Why not cast snow spells and make ice magick? In addition, take some time on snow days to rest and heal yourself. This is a great time to self-reflect and regenerate. Snow Magic Properties Snow is essentially a frozen, crystallized form of water. It takes on the magic properties of the water element, which includes: intuition, emotion, dreams, purification, healing, creation and destruction. However, snow’s magic properties differ just a bit from water’s, because of its unique form. They include: Quiet/silence Solitude Peace and harmony Rest and regeneration Deep self healing Gentle purification Creation AND destruction (depending on the quantity of snow, mirroring the water element) Uniqueness Beauty Family matters Patience Goddess work Femininity Snow Spells: Ways to Use Snow in Your Magick Everyone’s magick is unique and beautiful. What you choose to do with snow in your practice is only limited by your imagination and drive. That being said, we’ve found some awesome ways to cast snow spells and use snow in one’s witchcraft practice. Here are just a few: Collect snow in a jar and save the snow water Snow water can be used to purify your altar, home, magic tools Snow can be added directly to ritual baths for snow spells of the healing, self-love, and cleansing kind Bury your petition in the snow to “cool off” a situation (a snow spell that is temporarily binding) Use snow as an offering to Winter deities like Holda, Berchta, Odin, La Befana, the Cailleach, etc. Use snow when working with Winter fairies and spirits: anoint your third eye with snow to “see” them, use as offerings, etc. Melt in a pot with herbs and other ingredients to make a simmering potpourri then bottle and spray around the house to purify and bring a time of peace Make an infusion of snow water and herbs for floor washes and front door washes for various intentions Go out into the snow and build a snowman as offering to the Winter deities and spirits Go sledding with a focus on healing your inner child and bringing joy to your life Have a snowball fight with your friends or family to cool off a hot situation (if there’s a lot of discord in the home, etc.) and “let off steam” with each other Snow spells using floating candles – float the candles in snow water to merge fire and water elements Draw/paint pictures of your intentions into the snow with natural objects OR use food dye (see Rita B’s pretty flower snow magick below! Rita decided she was tired of the snow and wanted to see Spring, so she painted flowers in the snow using food dye. This is called using your imagination and creativity in your snow spells.) Make paper snowflakes to put in your grimoire when recording your snow spells Hail & Ice Magic Properties Ice is a different matter from snow. While they go hand-in-hand, ice’s magic properties are unique to ice. When it rains down from the sky, it takes the form of sleet, freezing rain, or hail. Each are unique unto themselves. They all carry the magic properties of water, but also their own properties. Hail forms in thunderstorms that can happen in any season, while sleet happens mostly in Winter. Hail is often more destructive than sleet or freezing rain and because it comes from thunderstorms picks up the properties from thunderstorms. Though, as we’ve said before, the level of destruction depends on the quantity of hail, sleet, snow, etc. Interestingly, our Norse and Germanic ancestors felt so strongly about the power of Hail and Ice, there are two runes that correspond (listed below under their respective magic properties). Hail’s Magic Properties: Abrupt change/transformation Survival Acceptance Crisis New Opportunity When you need to “Shake Things Up” Intense emotions The Rune: Hagalaz Ice Magic Properties: Stillness Self-identity and self control Focus Concentration Stasis Pause Harsh conditions and survival Cooling “hot” situations off Self defense Purification The Rune: Isa Hail and Ice Spells and Magical Uses As with snow, hail and ice magick is up to your creativity. Keep in mind hail and ice magic properties are different than snow, so use it appropriately with your intentions. Collect hail and ice for ice spells, store in your freezer, or let it melt for ice or hail water. OR use ice from your freezer in your spells. Here’s some ways to do magick with ice and hail: Freeze a hot situation in the freezer to cool things off or to stop something or someone in their tracks Use hail water in the bath to supercharge yourself before rituals Freeze herbs or flowers in ice and use in kitchen magick Melt […]

Jar Spells: Your ESSENTIAL Guide to Making MAGICK in a Jar https://otherworldlyoracle.com/jar-spells/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jar-spells https://otherworldlyoracle.com/jar-spells/#comments Sat, 23 Jan 2021 13:59:38 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=6240 It seems like spells in containers are all the witchy rage these days. Maybe you’ve even tried one. Maybe it worked out? Or maybe it didn’t. There’s a couple tricks that I’ve learned when making magic in a jar. Here I’ll teach you how to cast powerful jar spells, and provide a few of my favorite protection, love and money spell jar recipes. Why Are Jar Spells So Popular? PLUS The Basics Seemingly just as popular as crystal magick and bath rituals, jar spells have come up on the witchy charts lately. My theory is two-fold: they’re simple to make and powerful when done right. Their origins may be traced to American folk magic traditions, to a degree, but they also mimic the old school European witch bottles. Witch bottles are essentially protective spells in a bottle the likes of which have been found buried in the earth, in house foundations and under fireplaces throughout the British Isles and the U.S. This form of magick dates to at least the early modern period and, I believe, knows no real cultural boundaries. Read more about traditional witch bottles here. Sure, there are jar spells or “workings” that originate in the folk magic tradition Hoodoo. Particularly workings like honey “sweetening” jars and vinegar “souring” jars. But if you’d like to steer clear of cultural practices outside of your own, you’re not breaking any rules by making your own personal spell jars. For our intents and purposes, I am not teaching how to make jars of the Hoodoo variety in this article because I don’t practice Hoodoo. I’m a solitary pagan witch of 20+ years and do my own thing. You can do your own thing too. The Essential Parts of a Jar Spell So what do you need to cast a jar spell? A jar with a lid, obviously. But you also need ingredients to match your intentions. I’ve made quite a few spell jars and found the best ingredients are non-perishable and dry. If you add fresh ingredients to your jar, you’ll run into mold issues. It’ll get funky in there, promise you that. Plant material that hasn’t been completely dried out will also cause mold. So choose ingredients like the following. 1. Options for Jar Spell Ingredients: A jar with a lid (obviously) Dried Herbs (from your herb cabinet OR spice drawer): lavender, rosemary, thyme, mugwort, chamomile, mint, roses, cinnamon etc. Flowers/flower petals: make sure they are completely dried out! Salt: regular salt from your kitchen cabinet OR witch’s black salt. Salt is powerful in protection and cleansing rituals Sugar: great ingredient in love and money jars Coins and dollar bills: effective in money jars Stones and crystals: smaller pieces are best, especially if you want to shake the jar once completed (obviously big chunks might crack the jar!) Feathers, acorns, other items from nature Sand: ingredient used in fertility, abundance, and ocean spells in general Pins and needles: particularly effective in protection jars, similar to traditional witch’s bottles Paper with intention: write your intention on a piece of paper and put it in the jar Roots, nuts, bark Dirt/soil: from various places that fuel your intention (a pinch is best) Anything you feel feeds your intention and fits in the jar! 2. How to Cast Your Jar Spell, Successfully! Throw the ingredients in the jar, seal it up, shake it. You’re done. Right? WRONG. Yes, the steps are basically that, in a nutshell. But if you put no effort and no thought into the process, often your jar spell will fall flat. I speak from experience. Mindlessly doing any ritual will yield little to no results. The Right Ingredients First, be sure you have the right ingredients. Ingredients that match and fuel your intention (and won’t chemically react and explore in the jar overnight). Select a jar that is sturdy with a lid. Air tight if possible! Recycled jars from your kitchen are great, too. Clean them thoroughly and cleanse them spiritually before use. Timing Then, consider the TIMING of your jar spell. For example, go by moon phase. Waxing moon = jar spells for spiritual growth, beauty, attracting love, friendship, growing your bank account, etc. Full moon = quick and powerful manifestation. Waning moon = banishing, binding, ridding yourself of unwanted things/people. Other appropriate mods of spell timing include days of the week, hours and times of the day. You can ignore the timing aspect, but your spell might not be as powerful. Auspicious times bring strong results. Mindful Casting Third, put your mind, heart and body into the process of creating your jar. Don’t just move through the steps. Change your environment and get yourself into a relaxed, open and focused state of mind. Visualize, sing, speak your intentions out loud. Do what you have to do to really focus on your intention. When you place each ingredient into the jar, speak it’s job out loud. Then seal the jar with the lid when you feel it’s whole. Feed Your Jar Spell Last, and maybe the most important part, FEED your spell jar. Feed it with more energy. Do this by either shaking your jar and speaking/praying your intentions over it. And/or burning a candle on top of the jar. Select a number of days to burn candles on top and correspond your burning times with auspicious spell timing (as mentioned above in the section on timing). For example, burn a candle on top of your jar for 6 days in a row for attracting new love. 3 days for a new creative venture. At the very least, hold your spell jar and speak your intentions over it. Money Spell Jar Recipe I’ve been particularly successful with my money spell jars in the past few years. Here’s one of my favorite personal recipes. What You’ll Need: a jar with a lid: a mason jar is best but a glass jar with a metal lid is required 3 coins paper and pen: I rip pieces off of brown […]

3 Money Spells: Money Jar Spells, Full Moon Money Spells & More! https://otherworldlyoracle.com/money-spells/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=money-spells https://otherworldlyoracle.com/money-spells/#respond Sun, 06 Dec 2020 15:01:38 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5974 Need some extra money to pay your bills or put into savings this month? Try one or more of our tried and true money spells. Here I open my grimoire to you and give you my most effective money jar spell, full moon money spell and personal money spell chant. Remember! You must believe it will work and it will. Tried and True Money Jar Here’s my tried and true money jar spell. Remember – money IS energy. Keep that in mind…it IS obtainable and there is plenty for everyone! And then some! What You’ll Need: A glass jar with metal lid 2 herbs of your choice (choose spices from the kitchen if need be!) that you relate to money or prosperity. These should be dried but can be loose leaf or powder. Whatever you have! 1 herb of your choice that is a ROAD opener (I use john the conqueror root but hot spices like red chili flakes work too!) Paper and pen 3 coins Sugar or maple syrup (if you need money NOW choose sugar, maple syrup works quickly too but keeps the money flowing a little longer) 1, 3, or 7 tealight or spell candles (I use white or green) Lighter/matches What To Do: Cleanse all of your money jar spell supplies by whatever method you prefer. Set the mood. Light candles, light incense, etc. Write your intention on the piece of paper. I write mine three times but you can do this however you’d like. Roll the paper towards you. Place in the jar. With each herb, blow on it and then put it into the jar. Visualize money flowing to you freely throughout the process. Then put the 3 coins in the jar and say, “by three times three, for the highest good of all, money flow freely to me.” Pour the sugar or syrup over the herbs, coins, and paper. Cap the jar with the lid. Shake the jar gently and say this money spell chant, “The roads are open, no blocks shall there be, by the power of three times three, money flow to me. So mote it be.” Burn a candle on top of the jar. NEVER LEAVE UNATTENDED! SAFETY FIRST! I like to burn a candle on my jars daily for 7 or 9 days and in between I shake the jar everyday and pray the same prayer. Easy Money Candle Spell I’ve been doing simple money spells with candles for decades and they always work! Try this easy money candle spell. What You’ll Need: a green chime/spell candle (or tealight) a pinch of basil or mint a pinch of cinnamon olive oil (about a teaspoon) a pin or knife for carving into wax matches/lighter candle holder or firesafe plate/burner What to Do: Cleanse your space and your money candle spell supplies. Dim the lights and get into an alpha state of mind (relaxed and open). Close your eyes and visualize your intention. Be clear in your intention and visualize it actually happening OR having already happened. Open your eyes and carve the $ symbol into your candle 3, 7, 9, or 13 times. Gently roll your candle in the olive oil (if you’re using a tealight, drip a few drops on top of it), the entire time visualizing and speaking your intentions. Next take a pinch of basil or mint and roll the candle in it (if you’re using a tealight, just sprinkle a bit on the top…but not too much!) Do the same with the cinnamon. Just a tad. Cinnamon amplifies your intentions! Light the candle and place in holder/burner/firesafe dish. Next, stare at the flame and say this money spell chant, “money flow freely to me (and my family if you’d like to include your family), money flow freely, for the highest good of all, so mote it be.” Repeat this statement 3, 7, 9 or 13 times. Allow the candle to burn down all the way until the flame goes out itself. If you have to stop the spell midway, that’s okay too but try to allow the spell to finish. After the candle is burned down, let it cool. Collect the remnants and place them in a bag then into your purse, wallet OR nearby where you make your $ (in your business, office, by your computer, etc.) Once the money spell has manifested to your liking, bury the remnants in the West of your property. Full Moon Money Spell This full moon money spell is an all-day, active spell…but don’t let that scare you from trying. It’s simple AND effective! The first thing is – wait for a Full Moon. What You’ll Need: Green clothing 1 Green OR Gold Stone/Crystal: for example moss agate, pyrite, goldstone, green calcite, emerald, jade, green fluorite, aventurine, or malachite Green foods: enough to eat a serving of green food with each meal. Examples: green beans, spinach, lettuce, kale, collard greens, zucchini, etc. Three dollar bills What To Do: The full day of the Full Moon you will immerse yourself in the idea of all things MONEY. When you wake up in the morning, you’ll take a shower, close your eyes and see the water pouring gold coins and money on top of you from head to foot. You can even sing a song about money while showering to get the mood flowing! Dress yourself in green and gold clothing, jewelry, accessories, shoes, etc. The more green and gold you wear this day, the better! Wrap your stone in the three dollar bills and place in your pocket. With each meal today, eat a serving of GREEN food. Green foods like kale, spinach, collard greens, etc. are linked to money. Go to work or go about your day in your normal routine. But shift your consciousness and tell yourself my money spell chant repetitively, “Money flows freely to me. No blocks shall I see. Money flows freely this Full Moon and henceforth. For the highest good of all. So mote […]

Elementals: What Is An Elemental? And the Guardians of the Watchtowers https://otherworldlyoracle.com/elementals-guardians-of-the-watchtowers/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=elementals-guardians-of-the-watchtowers https://otherworldlyoracle.com/elementals-guardians-of-the-watchtowers/#comments Tue, 01 Dec 2020 19:27:11 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5943 Before modern witchcraft, Wicca and ceremonial magic sort of ruled the occult community. And casting a circle before ritual and invoking the elementals was a popular practice among practitioners. But what is an elemental? And are the elementals the same as the guardians of the watchtowers? First, What is an Elemental? First we answer the question, what is an elemental? You’ve heard of the four elements, right? Earth, air, fire and water are the four core elements according to Western magical tradition. An elemental is the spirit of an element. Just as humans have bodies AND a soul, so do elementals. The element itself (air, for example) is the physical manifestation of the elemental, while the sylph is the spirit of air. As above, so below. There are four elementals to correspond with the four elements: Gnomes are earth elementals, Undines are water elementals, Sylphs are air elementals and Salamanders are fire elementals. Where Did the Belief in Elementals Originate? The first wink of elemental belief originates in the Medieval Ages with alchemy. Paracelsus being one of the first alchemists to study and use the four main elements in his practice. If you ask a Wiccan today, you’ll hear it’s a Wiccan belief but truly we see elementals being invoked in nineteenth century ceremonial magick. Namely the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. This was a Masonic-inspired secret society, if you will, of occultists who studied and practiced high magick, metaphysics, and the paranormal. The Golden Dawn’s belief in elementals trickled down to more modern religions like Wicca and Aleister Crowley’s Thelema. Yet the belief everything in nature has consciousness and the belief in fairies predates occult societies such as these by thousands of years. Who Are the Guardians of the Watchtowers? Before we go any further, let’s define what the watchtowers are and how the elements and elementals may be connected. In ceremonial magick, practitioners cast a circle for protection and energy, and call on the “corners” or the four cardinal directions along with their respective elements. Typically, it goes like this: East = air, South = fire, West = water and North = earth. The corners or four cardinal directions are also known as the Watchtowers. (I literally envision a tower at each of the four directions when I call the corners.) If you’ve ever watched the 90s movie The Craft, you might remember when the girls cast a circle and call the corners. “Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, Powers of Air and Invention, Hear Us!” Were they calling the elementals in or are the guardians of the watchtowers something completely different? My research suggests that depending on the tradition and even the individual, the Guardians of the Watchtowers can be one of many things. They could be the elementals, “kingdoms of elementals”, the basic four elements, OR in some cases, archangels. Here we focus specifically on the Elementals as Guardians of the Watchtowers. Gnomes: Earth Elemental Guardians of the Watchtower of the North Gnomes are the spirits of the earth element, also called earth elementals. They are guardians of the North and of the earth. The word Gnome comes from the Greek gnoma meaning knowledge. The King of the gnome kingdom, named Ghob, is sometimes invoked as a Guardian of the Watchtower of the North. Separate from being a Wiccan or ceremonial elemental, gnome folklore is found in many countries. These small faery beings live deep in ancient forests within intricate root systems. They are guardians of the ancient forests and all wildlife there. Gnomes are believed to bless one’s garden and home, hence why we have gnome lawn ornaments in modern times. Gnome elementals appear as small, wizened men and women with green and blue outfits and red caps. The men have beards. They are sometimes capricious and always protective of their natural homes. In the Order of the Golden Dawn, gnomes were considered “essential spiritual beings” invoked to praise God in a ritual called Benedicite Omnia Opera. Sylphs: Air Elementals, Guardians of the Watchtower of the East Sylphs are the spirits of the air element, also called air elementals. The word sylph derives from the Greek silphe meaning butterfly. Sylphs are guardians of the East and of Air. The King of the Air kingdom’s name is Paralda and is invoked as a Guardian of the Watchtower of the East. Sylphs aren’t as steeped in folklore as gnomes, yet their presence is existential. I’ve known multiple practitioners who, after calling the corners and releasing them, have seen sylphs stick around. They seem to have a playful nature, more so than the other elementals. Sylphs appear as “tiny, winged creatures” who look “vaguely human”, according to Edain McCoy. Yet modern eyewitness accounts describe them as speedy, white wisps of air. Salamanders: Fire Elementals, Guardians of the Watchtower of the South Salamanders are the spirits of the fire element, also known as Fire Elementals. They are the guardians of the South and Fire. The word salamander‘s origin isn’t quite as clear but could relate to salambe which means fireplace. Salamanders originate in the Middle East, in the dry, hot desert where the fire element is ubiquitous. They’re also said to originate in China. The King of Salamanders’ name is Djinn, which links him to the Middle Eastern belief in the Djinn spirits or Djinni (where we get the Jeannie in the lamp concept). While these beings share a name with the salamander animal, they aren’t quite the same. But, in the same flame, the salamander elemental sometimes resembles a lizard. When seen, salamanders dance, slither, and flit from flame to flame in the fire. If you’ve taken a picture of a bonfire or candle flame and noticed faces or small, darting dragons, you’ve seen the salamander elementals. Undines: Water Elementals, Guardians of the Watchtower of the West Undines are the spirits of the water element, also called Water Elementals. They guard the West and Water. The word undine comes from the word unda […]

Drawing Down the STARS Ritual To Connect With the Cosmos https://otherworldlyoracle.com/drawing-down-the-stars-ritual/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=drawing-down-the-stars-ritual https://otherworldlyoracle.com/drawing-down-the-stars-ritual/#respond Mon, 02 Nov 2020 15:17:07 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5771 This ritual is ethereal, uplifting and inspired from an old school Wiccan tradition called Drawing Down the Moon. Drawing Down the Moon is when a priestess of a coven calls upon the Moon Goddess to take up presence within her body. She invokes the goddess and takes on her energy within. For this Drawing Down the Stars Ritual, you will invoke the energy of a star of your choice. The Drawing Down the Stars Ritual Before performing the ritual, decide which star or constellation to invoke. Choose a star based on your zodiac sign or star you were born under. For instance, if you’re a Scorpio you might choose a star in the Scorpius constellation. Or you can check the star you were born under here and invoke it during ritual. OR if you know you are a starseed and you know your starseed origins, choose a star from that constellation. Why Try the Drawing Down the Stars Ritual? I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel there’s enough rituals or talk about how to magically and spiritually connect with the stars or Cosmos. I see a lot of moon rituals and spells, but very little star rituals and spells. It’s important to connect with the stars if you are a starseed, if you feel drawn to the night sky, and if you want to absorb just a slice of what the universe has to offer. Drawing down the stars will energize, revitalize, heal and empower you. What You’ll Need: Crystal pyramid (1-3” wide): type of your choice but I recommend clear quartz, selenite, Amethyst, lepidolite or lapis lazuli Earbuds or headphones Charcoal disk, charcoal disk tongs, and ceramic/fire-safe container Star anise pod (1) A quiet, solitary place outside under the stars (where you won’t be disturbed by anyone) How to Perform the Drawing Down the Stars Ritual Choose a night when the sky is clear of clouds or pollution, etc. When you can best see the sky in your location. A Full Moon also helps. Gather your supplies. Cleanse yourself via a ritual bath or shower. Or via smoke-cleansing. Cleanse your supplies via your chosen method. It’s important to cleanse the crystal pyramid! Also the container you’re using to burn the star anise. Go outside to your chosen safe, quiet place. Locate your chosen star or star location in the sky. It’s easiest if you use a mobile app like SkyView, etc. Mark the star’s location physically by placing your crystal pyramid as close to the spot as possible. For example, if your star is directly above you, place the pyramid directly in front of where you’re standing. If it’s facing due east, place your pyramid in the east. You’ll have to make a mental note of exactly where in the sky your star is located, as you won’t be able to completely mark it out with a pyramid and you also won’t be able to use your device through the entire Star ritual. Light your charcoal and place in your fire safe dish using tongs. Research how to safely use charcoal disks and loose incense if you’re unsure! Next Place your star anise pod on the burning charcoal while saying, “Stella Industria. Te Invoco. Stella Industria. Te Invoco. Stella Industria. Te Invoco. Tibi munera.” This is Latin for “Star energy. I invoke thee. Star energy. I invoke thee. Star energy. I invoke thee. A gift for you.” I find lately saying things in Latin or another language makes the ritual that much more ethereal. Let the star anise pod smolder for a few seconds, sit/stand quietly and watch the smoke snake its way into the ether and dissipate into the sky. Hold your finger in the smoke for a second, then touch the same finger to your third eye. Say, “Tertio oculum ad Stellam. Ad tertium oculus Stella.” Set down your incense and vessel close by but out of your way. Let the star anise pod continue to burn. Put on your headphones and listen to the star seed unity tones provided here. Or choose your own binaural beats or star tunes with an ethereal vibe. Lay down and stare up into the sky, in the direction of your chosen star. Place your crystal pyramid over your third eye. At this point, you should be visualizing the star’s energy shining down on you and meeting the crystal pyramid’s point then traveling into your third eye. This is the process of invoking and absorbing the cosmic energy that is the ALL. Just be in the moment for as long as you feel necessary. You may feel relaxed and floaty, or you may feel energetic and ready to run a race. Either way, let that feeling be what it is. Let the energy of the stars give you visions, whisper words, tingle your senses, etc. When you’re done, you will return the star’s energy to it by visualizing a stream of white, starry light leaving your third eye, traveling through the pyramid, projecting back into the sky towards your chosen star. Don’t rush this process, take as much time as you need to feel the transfer of energy. Thank your chosen star by saying, “pulchra stella, gratus sum.” Clean up your area. Ground the Extra energy you’ve received from the star by eating something heavy like bread and/or via a grounding meditation. Keep the crystal pyramid in a black cloth or dark space and use it when you perform any other star spells or rituals. Autumn Harvest Blessings Spell: Door Wash Recipe (Members Only) https://otherworldlyoracle.com/autumn-harvest-blessings-spell/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=autumn-harvest-blessings-spell https://otherworldlyoracle.com/autumn-harvest-blessings-spell/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2020 00:07:09 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5646 We all need blessings in our lives, right? Autumn is the perfect time to harvest prosperity and joy within the home. An easy and effective spell consists of making an herbal infusion with Autumn aromas and then washing down your front door. Here we provide our Members with our favorite Autumn Harvest Front Door Wash recipe and spell. What You’ll Need: Pot (medium to large size) Water (16+ oz): if you have sun or moon charged water, even better! Cloves (1 tbsp): cloves are great for protection and purification Nutmeg (1 tbsp): for prosperity and good luck Apple slices (3): to connect to the Harvest season and invoke the Goddess Cinnamon stick (1 stick OR 1 tbsp powdered): to amplify the effects of the spell Star anise pod (1): banishes evil Washcloth / rag How to Make Autumn Harvest Front Door Wash: Put your water in the pot and set it on the stove on medium heat. Add all herbal ingredients. Let the water come to barely a boil then turn it down to simmer. Let it simmer for at least 15 minutes on low. Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Pour into a cool bowl. How to Cast the Autumn Harvest Blessings Spell After your front door wash has cooled, put it in a bowl or container. Take the door wash and your rag to the front door. Depending on how dirty your front door is, you might consider wiping it down with windex or some other cleaner prior to this spell. You don’t want a lot of dirt getting into your front door wash. Dip the rag into the front door wash and ring it out. Begin on the interior of your front door and wash from the bottom of the door up to the top (wetting and ringing out your rag as you go along). As you do this, welcome Autumn blessings into your home by saying or singing, “Autumn Harvest gods, fill this home with love, joy and prosperity. We thank thee. So mote it be.” You should also visualize blessings entering your home through the front door in whatever way comes naturally. You can see it as a bright orange or yellow light pouring in. Or see it in its physical form – money in your bank accounts, smiling faces, etc. Once you’re done with the interior of the front door, go outside and wash the front door down in the same manner as the interior. When you’re finished, pour the front door wash outside by your front door (on the ground). And thank your gods/ancestors/guides/Universe.

2 New House Spells: A Spell for Your Dream Home & Locator Spell https://otherworldlyoracle.com/new-house-spell/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-house-spell https://otherworldlyoracle.com/new-house-spell/#comments Sat, 05 Sep 2020 17:26:59 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5575 You’ve come to the point in your life where you can buy your own home. Or maybe you need a new home. Either way, you’re not sure where to start and need some help magically. Here we provide two new house spells: one to acquire your dream house and the other to locate the perfect property for your new house. New House Spell #1: Property Locator Spell Are you ready for a new home but don’t know where you should buy or build? Try this easy property locator spell and find the perfect spot! What You’ll Need: a map of the general area you wish to move a pendulum (you can also use a necklace with a charm/pendant or crystal) rosemary oil (optional but helpful) candlelight How to Cast the Property Locator New House Spell: Gather your supplies and cleanse your map, pendulum, and the area where you’ll be casting the spell Light a few candles and get into a relaxed state of mind Dab a bit of the rosemary oil on your pendulum and rub it in a clockwise fashion while asking the pendulum to reveal the best location for your new home Spread out the map on a table/flat surface Hold the pendulum over the middle of the map, allowing the pendulum to hang loose over it Close your eyes and say, “Pendulum, work your magic for me. Reveal the best location for my new home. So mote it be.”s Open your eyes and hold your hand very still. Your pendulum should begin to swing, twirl or pull in a certain direction. Slowly move your hand in the direction the pendulum is pulling. Ask the pendulum to stop over the requested location. Mark the area, thank the pendulum and map, and end the spell. New House Spell #2: Dream Home Charm Are you dreaming of a new home? The PERFECT home for you (and your family)? But maybe you’re not sure how you’ll come up with the funds or where you’ll find the house? Try our simple, effective dreamy new house spell. What You’ll Need: A small house ornament or miniature dollhouse Candle/fireplace (if you’re using a candle, you’ll also need a firesafe container, a bucket of water or extinguisher to be safe) Piece of paper and pencil Sunflower or jojoba oil (vegetable or olive work if that’s all you have!) One of these herbs for happiness: lavender, catnip, marjoram or saint john’s wort A pinch of one of these herbs for prosperity: basil, nugmet, or oak A pinch of one of these herbs for protection: rosemary, mint, nettle, or safe How to Cast the New Home Spell: Gather your supplies. Dim the lights and set the mood in your sacred space. Cleanse yourself, supplies and space. Take your piece of paper and write and/or draw your DREAM house. Be specific. See the dream house in your mind as you put it to paper. Fold the piece of paper towards you once and sprinkle a pinch of your 3 herbs into the fold of the paper. Fold it again towards you, until the paper is as small as you can get it and the herbs are tucked inside. Next, (carefully!) burn your paper to release your dream house wish into the universe while also visualizing being in your dream house and being, happy, prosperous and protected. Once your paper is burned to ash, add the ash to a tablespoon of oil. Mix it well. Rub the ash-oil all over the miniature dollhouse/dreamhouse in a clockwise fashion and say, “joyful, protected and prosperous, dream house be brought to us.” Save the leftover oil with ash in an air-tight bottle/jar. Hang your dream house charm somewhere in your current home where you can see it everyday and visualize your dream house until it manifests. Anoint your new dream spell house with the ash-oil every week on a Friday. Then, when you move into your new house, hang your miniature dream house charm from the front porch or rafters before any other decoration.
