Tech Magic – Otherworldly Oracle https://otherworldlyoracle.com Let Your Inner Witch Fly Free Sat, 21 Dec 2019 20:21:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.4.1 Car Magic: Rituals, Charms and Tips to Make Your Ride Magical https://otherworldlyoracle.com/car-magic/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=car-magic&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=car-magic https://otherworldlyoracle.com/car-magic/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2019 19:44:38 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4088 Spend a lot of time in the car? I don’t know about you but I spend quite a bit of time in my vehicle transporting kids and going from point a. to point b. If you have a long commute to work or live out of your car, here’s our tried and true car magic, rituals and charms to make your ride an enchanting one! 1. Car Magic: Spirit Communication Your car is made up of energy. To some people, our cars even have a soul or consciousness. Either way, why not start a good relationship with your vehicle? Have you named your car or truck? Have you talked to your car or truck? My vehicle has a magical name and he is rather pleased with it. Name your car and tell it what its name is. Talk to it daily like it can hear you. Maybe it can! If anything, it makes your car rides more enjoyable. 2. Magical Car Charms Something I’ve done for many years is craft a protection bag for my vehicle. Mine is simple to make and takes 2 things: a small sachet or bag and a couple pinches of dried wormwood. Wormwood is traditionally used for protection in one’s travels. I replenish the wormwood once every 3-6 months. You can substitute with any herb you feel has protective qualities and add protective stones, too! In addition, hanging sun catchers or protective charms on your rearview mirror is a great way to add magic to your car! 3. Divination As Car Magic First of all, safety comes first! Don’t attempt any form of divination or car magic while driving if it distracts you from the road! Now that we’ve got that out of the way, another magical thing I enjoy doing while in my vehicle is impromptu divination. A couple things you can try while sitting at a stoplight, stuck in traffic, or in the school’s car circle include: Cloud scrying: gaze up at the clouds and see what patterns they are taking. Are they giving you a message? License plate scrying: notice the license plates around you. Are there numbers or letters that recur? Are there bumper stickers that seem to be screaming a particular message at you? Oracle or Tarot: ONLY do this when you’re at a complete stop, waiting in a parking lot, etc. I like to keep a deck of cards in my car for impromptu divination sessions when I’m waiting on my kids, etc. Spread the cards on the dash, on the passenger’s side, OR choose one card from the deck 4. Meditation and Music YES you can meditate in your car. NO you shouldn’t try this while driving! Again, if you’re sitting in the car waiting on a family member, try listening to some relaxing music OR try a ten minute guided meditation. If you want to do simple car magic WHILE driving, listen to magical music. Something that transports you to another time and place yet still keeps you focused on the task at hand – driving. I prefer listening to my own playlist I’ve made with witchy songs OR listening to Celtic or Native American music. 5. Mini Car Cleansing Rituals Doing miniature cleansing rituals in your car is rewarding and makes your vehicle feel that much more like YOUR sanctuary! Keep a small bundle of herbs for smudging in your glovebox. Take it out and smudge your car once a month or when you feel like there’s pent-up energy. OR keep it in your car to smudge yourself before coming home from a particularly stressful day at work. 6. Car Protection Visualization While parked OR before a big road trip, try this car protection visualization technique: Visualize (imagine) a white light starting underneath your vehicle. With your mind’s eye, watch the white light creep up over the hood and over the roof reaching down and back around to where it started at the bottom of your vehicle. Then watch as another white light starts at the bottom of your vehicle and envelopes the right side, up over the roof, down the left side and ends underneath your vehicle again. Keep this image of a white light bubble enveloping your vehicle in your mind’s eye for as long as you’d like (I usually try at least 5 minutes). Then state “this impenetrable bubble of white light protects and defends my vehicle and all who ride in it. So be it.” More Everyday Magick: Healthy WITCH: My Diet and Exercise Regimen 11 Witchy Ways to Relieve Anxiety Witchcraft Practices for Peace and Comfort in Hard Times

Game of Thrones: The Witchcraft Elements in Season 1 (EXCLUSIVE Series) https://otherworldlyoracle.com/game-of-thrones-witchcraft-season-1/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=game-of-thrones-witchcraft-season-1&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=game-of-thrones-witchcraft-season-1 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/game-of-thrones-witchcraft-season-1/#comments Thu, 11 Apr 2019 21:01:32 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=2314 Are you House Stark? House Lannister? Or are you a child of the Mother of Dragons? Game of Thrones is a popular HBO fantasy series taking TV viewers by storm since its first season in March 2012. And, not surprisingly, it’s a favorite among magical folks. Have you ever noticed the witchcraft, shamanic and magical elements in Game of Thrones? If not, let us take you on a magical ride beside sorcerers, witches, spirits, dragons and more over the Known World from Winterfell Castle to the Dothraki Sea! SPOILERS AHEAD! We examine season 1 first in this EXCLUSIVE Otherworldly Oracle Series. Game of Thrones: Witches and Witchcraft With fantasy movies and series, some of the most intriguing and powerful antagonists turn out to be witches. This is an archetype as old as time and just as complex. Witches can be good, bad, or somewhere in between. They can be helpers or foes. But one thing is for sure – they make the story that much more entertaining. Season 1: Daenerys Calls On a Witch In the first season, by episode 9, we don’t encounter a powerful witch, but a witch nevertheless. Her name is Mirri Maz Duur and it’s none other than Daenerys Targaryen who calls upon her services in a desperate attempt to save her fading husband – the once-powerful Khal Drogo. The witch tells Daenyrys she must make a blood sacrifice to save Khal Drogo; a horse is sacrificed, but it’s not enough, and poor Daenerys ends up losing her unborn child in exchange for Khal’s life. You can guess what happens to the “vile witch” following this unraveling…burnt on the pyre. Bran: Dreams of the Raven They say all shamans go through a great tragedy as their initiation into the other world. In the first few episodes of Season 1, Bran is pushed from a tower window and loses complete function in his legs – an event that mimics a shamanic initiation. Throughout the season, Bran has surreal dreams of a three-eyed raven. Could this raven be his familiar? Spirit guide? An old god of some kind? Daenerys: Phoenix & Mother of Dragons Daenerys has gone through plenty in Season 1. She’s married off to a man she doesn’t know, abused by her brother, loses her husband and her unborn child. Her power as Queen of the Dothraki is also threatened, until…the dragon eggs gifted to her begin to crack open. She goes from lonely and mournful to the Mother of Dragons and leader of the Dothraki army. She is literally re-born from the fire, like the Phoenix. WARNING: PARTIAL NUDITY IN VIDEO BELOW!!! Jon Snow and the White Walkers It’s interesting to note the creator of Game of Thrones, author George RR Martin, chooses two elements as the main theme: Fire and Ice. At the North Wall, Jon Snow of House Stark swears an oath to protect the Wall. But when he tries to leave to attend to his family and fallen father, he’s confronted with the fact there is a bigger enemy at hand – the mythical White Walkers. White Walkers are essentially undead beings from over the wall, from the great north and represent part of the Ice element in the series’ main theme. The House Magical Sigils: Direwolves, Lions, and More Another magical element and based in old pagan lore is the concept of “sigils” for each of the 9 Houses in Game of Thrones. What is called a “sigil” in Game of Thrones would be called a Coat of Arms or Totem throughout history. However, the word sigil is also a magical term and means symbol of magical power. The magical sigils for each house are as follows: House Stark: Direwolf House Lannister: Lion House Targaryen: Three-headed Dragon House Arryn: White Falcon House Greyjoy: Kraken (Great Squid) House Martell: Sun House Tyrell: Golden Rose House Baratheon: Stag House Tully: Silver Trout An Otherworldly Oracle Exclusive Series We first planned to present the magical and witchcraft elements in GOT in one article, but quickly realized how dynamic these elements are and decided to create an entire series out of it. Over the next few months, stay tuned for an edition dedicated to the witches, sorcerers, spirits, undead beings, dragons, spells and more for ALL EIGHT SEASONS of Game of Thrones. Be prepared…Winter is Coming.

10 Netflix Movies EVERY Witch Should Watch (2019) https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witchy-netflix-movies/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=witchy-netflix-movies&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=witchy-netflix-movies https://otherworldlyoracle.com/witchy-netflix-movies/#comments Tue, 12 Mar 2019 18:06:56 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=1951 We’re in the age of instant streaming TV. So why not take advantage of it and enjoy a little magical Netflix entertainment? I don’t know about you, but as a modern witch, I like movies that either teach me a valuable lesson or take me on a magical journey. Here are our favorite current (2019) Netflix movies every witch should watch! (Keep in mind not all movies here will be witch movies and feature witches, BUT every movie will have a reason why witches should watch it.) 1. Pan’s Labyrinth Every witch loves a good magical journey into the otherworld, am I right? If you don’t mind reading subtitles OR if you speak fluent Spanish, Pan’s Labyrinth is worth the watch. Pan’s Labyrinth is a fantasy featuring a little girl who finds herself lost between this world and another in light of unimaginable terrors in the real world, she meets fairies and gods in the otherworld. This is a Netflix movie every witch should watch. 2. Disney’s Coco One of our favorite Disney Pixar movies of all time, and why? I’d venture to say because of the animation (which is truly stunning), but the truth is…I learned something from this movie. Coco is based on a traditional Mexican family and a little boy’s journey into the Land of the Dead on Dia De Los Muertos. Not only does the little boy get to meet his ancestors, he solves an ages-old family mystery. And we get to learn a thing or two about this magical Mexican holiday, spirit guides, and traditional Mexican beliefs. This is one Netflix movie every witch should watch (whether you have kids or not)! 3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Not one of the witch movies starring witches, but again, a must-see netflix movie for witches is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This movie featuring Jim Carey and Kate Winslet was released in the early 2000’s and just hit Netflix this year. It is incredibly quirky and teaches us an incredible lesson about love – you can’t truly forget true love. Kate Winslet’s orange-haired, whimsical character “Clementine” reminds many witches of themselves – eccentric, doesn’t give an eff and a total bookworm. Trust us – watch this movie! 4. Stardust What I like to consider one of the best fantasy witch movies on Netflix is the movie based on Neil Gaiman’s novel Stardust. If you love fantasy, you’ll adore this film full of magic: witches, fallen stars, knights, and fairy worlds. Once you get lost in the land of Stardust, you won’t want to come back. And never mind the talented Michelle Pfeiffer plays a witch bent on revenge (that somehow we only want to see more of)! 5. The Ritual So we won’t say this movie is for every witch, but if you’re into horror and don’t mind the darker side of the witchcraft/pagan spectrum – check out The Ritual on Netflix. Separate yourself from the mindset of “every movie should show pagans in a positive light”, because, let’s face it – pagans are often used as the butt of a horror movie’s plot twist. At that we can also say the horror industry also twists Christianity into plot twists (think The Nun), so if you can move past that this movie is disturbing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Set in a creepy, overgrown Swedish forest – a group of pals set out on a hike in which terrifying things happen they never imagined. 6. Bird Box Everyone was raving about this Netflix movie not too long ago. If you haven’t watched Bird Box, and you’re a witch who has Netflix, watch it now! There are some supernatural elements in Bird Box we never quite identify fully, which only makes the movie more intriguing. And who’s not a fan of Sandra Bullock as a heroine of a thriller? Every witch should watch Bird Box. 7. Black Panther In modern witchcraft, we feel the need to speak up for those who have been oppressed, just like witches have been over the past 8 (10? 12?) centuries. Black Panther empowers those who have felt oppressed and brings the word superhero to a whole different level. Even if you’re a witch but not into Marvel superhero movies, give this movie a looksie. 8. The Sixth Sense “I see dead people” was a quote from The Sixth Sense uttered by many mouths in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Leave it to Bruce Willis to play a child psychiatrist who comes across his most interesting kid-patient ever. This kid isn’t like every other kid out there playing soccer and swinging on the swings – he sees things…dead things. And if you’re a witch into the supernatural in general, you should watch The Sixth Sense on Netflix before it’s retired. 9. The Witch When this horror movie was released, everyone was dying to see it. Then people either loved it or hated it. Some ranted it cast a bad light on witches in modern times, while others said it was fantastically written to mimic the folklore of the Colonial settlers in a time when witches weren’t seen as human but something almost-supernatural. If you can handle a little gore, and you don’t mind exploring the darker side of witchcraft in folklore, The Witch might be a movie you’ll enjoy. I’ve known quite a few witches who recommend this movie to others. 10. The Addams Family It’s Halloween year-round for The Addams Family. What better witch to teach us hexes than Morticia Addams played by the extravagant Anjelica Huston? I’m aware this is a popular movie on TV during Halloween season, but you can watch it on Netflix right now if you don’t feel like waiting for next Halloween! The Addams Family is a classic witch movie, in my humble opinion, that every witch should watch! It tickles my gothic witchy fancy. 10 Modern Magical Tools for the Savvy Tech Witch https://otherworldlyoracle.com/10-modern-magical-tools-tech-witch/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=10-modern-magical-tools-tech-witch&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=10-modern-magical-tools-tech-witch https://otherworldlyoracle.com/10-modern-magical-tools-tech-witch/#comments Fri, 07 Sep 2018 14:16:33 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=926 We’re living in a modern world and we are modern witches. So why not use technology to our advantage in our craft? Yes, there are some who are what I like to call purist witches, which is absolutely fine! They prefer candlelight over electricity (who doesn’t?), homegrown foods over store-bought, etc. But we don’t all have the ability to move off the grid and live like our ancestors once did. And I truly believe our ancestors made due with what they had, so we should make due with what we have too. I’ll bet anything our great great grandmothers would’ve given their last nickel for the chance to use a washing machine or have air conditioning in the summer. With that said, let’s dive into the ten modern magical tools for the savvy tech witch! DISCLOSURE: I may earn a small commission for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from this website. Your purchase helps support my work in bringing you information about the paranormal and paganism. 1. Essential Oil Diffuser An is a perfect tool for the modern tech witch. Plug it in or add batteries and the diffuser will turn water with essential oil into steam and disperse it around your sacred space! My favorite essential oils to diffuse are lavender – to help soothe nerves and put me into a sleepy state, peppermint – to cleanse the air of negative vibes and invigorate the senses, and orange – to celebrate the summer and lift my mood. The great thing about essential oil diffusers is you’re not polluting the air like with paraffin candles and you’re using essential oils without having to research topical and internal effects, etc. Mix essential oils together in the diffuser for your own magical diffuser blends or get blend ideas off of Pinterest! 2. Himalayan Salt Lamp For the tech witch or technopagan who has sensitivities to smoke given off by smudging herbs, a is the perfect solution! Himalayan Salt Lamps are lamps made of mined Himalayan salt from Pakistan. They emit a low, warm glow and give off minerals that naturally cleanse the air around them. Leave the lamp on for a few hours to experience the real benefits. These lamps not only set a nice, comforting ambiance in your sacred space, they also clean the air of negative vibes and some people claim they soothe allergies and improve sleep! Want to cleanse your space without smudging? Use a Himalayan salt lamp! 3. Twinkle Lights Want to create a heavenly and inviting atmosphere in your sacred space and around your magical home? Add a few strands of battery powered to your altar, bookshelves, nightstand, wherever! Typically this type of lights are used during Christmas to bring Christmas lights inside the home, but I have two sets of white twinkle lights that I leave on my altar and in my shadow box year-round! Not only does it provide a warm, welcoming glow to my living room, it calls to the ancestors and gods “welcome to this space! Come make yourself comfortable!” My daughter says they remind her of pixie lights. Buy twinkle lights from Target or online at Amazon for fairly cheap. It’s a decoration for the tech witch that won’t go out of style (even if people say it’s from the nineties!) 4. Witchy Mobile Apps We are living in a world where nearly everyone owns a smart phone. And if you don’t? Well, you’re a witch living in the Dark Ages. Why not use your mobile phone to your magical advantage? If you haven’t already added a moon phase app to your phone, there are dozens of free ones to download for iPhone or Android. I use a moon app to remind me of the moon phase if my life has gotten too busy, and also to see what astrological sign the moon is in. But there are more witchy mobile apps to choose from! Try out the Rune app to learn the runes or for a mobile rune casting. There are also tarot card and oracle card apps, Wicca herb and crystal apps, as well as Wheel of the Year apps that will tell you the exact dates of the upcoming sabbats! Check out the full list of my favorite witchy mobile apps here. 5. Flameless Candles Have a problem with curious and mischievous pets or children? I have the perfect solution for you, tech witch! They’re called and they are a wonderful substitute for the real thing. Some people can’t keep candles burning because their cat might knock them over or their kids get handsy, so in one of these cases turn on a flameless candle to provide that warm candlelight glow without the hazard of an open flame in the house. When it comes to ritual or offerings, flameless candles shouldn’t be used in substitute of the real thing (real fire is just too powerful to substitute), BUT if you want a candle for decoration on your altar or throughout the house use flameless candles. 6. Food Dehydrator For the tech witch who is also savvy in the kitchen and with herbs, a is invaluable. I use my food dehydrator (twenty five bucks off Amazon) to quickly dry herbs from the garden. I’ve also used it to dry apple and orange slices for magical teas and ciders. Often witches will dry herbs naturally on racks or from hanging features, but I find it’s quickest and easiest to pop them in my food dehydrator. Then I can remove the herbs, put them in their jars, and put away the food dehydrator to use the counter space for something else. I usually have dried basil, sage, oregano, and more in approximately an hour. 7. The Black Mirror I’m not talking about the creepy Netflix show, but I am referring to the main concept. Are you a tech witch who loves scrying but can’t carry your black scrying mirror around everywhere you go? I have an […]

Technopaganism: Best FREE Witchy Apps for Android https://otherworldlyoracle.com/technopaganism-best-free-witchy-apps-android/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=technopaganism-best-free-witchy-apps-android&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=technopaganism-best-free-witchy-apps-android https://otherworldlyoracle.com/technopaganism-best-free-witchy-apps-android/#comments Sat, 18 Aug 2018 14:23:03 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=794 We live in a modern world and use modern contraptions in daily life. Why not embrace technology for magical purposes, too? Here’s my list of the best FREE witchy apps, including mobile apps for tarot, crystals, herbs, astrology, and spells. I have personally downloaded and tested each one and compiled my favorites for you here. Find these apps in the Google Playstore for Android. They may be available for iPhone, too, but you’ll have to check. Be aware these apps will give you ads when you log into them sometimes, which is what makes them free. Ads aside, time to get your technopaganism on! First, What is Technopaganism? Technopaganism is a branch of neo-paganism in which modern-day technology is considered a part of spirituality and can also be used in magical endeavors. The technopagan may believe modern devices such as mobile phones, computers, vehicles, and even architecture, have their own associated spirits or gods. They also believe in embracing technology as an inherent part of spiritual growth and use the computer to store a Book of Shadows or spiritual journal. Mobile witchy apps are used to look up magical and spiritual information. For technopaganism in the city, the buildings and vehicles stand in place of trees and other natural items. While some scoff at the idea of technopaganism, it only makes sense to those living in urban areas to embrace their surroundings.  Best FREE Tarot and Oracle Apps 1. Classic Rider-Waite Tarot App In my opinion, the best free Tarot app available for android is the Classic Rider-Waite Tarot App. When you’d like a quick tarot reading, but you don’t have the cards on you, open this app and divine a message! Not only is it easy to use, but the tarot card spread categories are extensive. There are four categories with eleven spreads total to choose from. The categories include card spreads for love, career, and self exploration. Pick a single card reading or multiple card readings. In addition, save the card spreads that truly spoke to you to revisit later. 2. Spirit Animal Oracle Cards App I’m a big fan of spirit animal medicine. But I can’t always be outside to receive a live message from nature. The spirit animal oracle cards app is perfect for a quick spirit animal reading. This witchy app has beautiful graphics and is user friendly. Flip one or multiple cards for a reading. The only downside to this app is there are only eleven animal cards in the deck. To acquire more animal cards, one must buy the full version.  Astrology and Moon Apps 3. Natal Charts with Transits Instead of paying an astrology service to map your full birth natal chart, download this FREE witchy app! Seriously, this is a must-have for the tech witch who is interested in astrology. You’ll need to input your birthday, birth time, and location of your birth at the beginning, so have this information handy. The app tells your rising sign, moon sign, and sun sign and explains each in detail. It breaks down your planetary aspects, planets in the signs, planetary houses, and gives you a display of your natal wheel. Every day you can open this witchy app and see your horoscope based on your natal chart! The app’s prediction for my day today was uncanny. Scary uncanny. 4. Moon Phase Calendar Every magical person needs a moon app on their phone. The problem is there are dozens to choose from! The Moon Phase Calendar app is easy to use and gives you a full month’s lunar cycle, plus daily moon and sun statistics (sunrise, noon, sunset). I haven’t seen any sun stats with other witchy apps, so I found this pleasantly surprising. But the best part about this witchy app? New Moon and Full Moon notifications! When life gets too busy you forget when the next new moon is, this app will notify you in advance (just be sure to set up the notifications when you download it). Pretty rad. 5. Daff Moon Another handy moon app for the tech witch – this one gives you the sign in which the moon is stationed. I.E. Full Moon in Aquarius. This is useful information for anyone who aligns to the lunar phases. It also lists planetary info including whether they are visible to the naked eye. Solstices and equinoxes are listed in the sidebar, as well as eclipses and a summary of astronomical events. For me, a quick look at this moon app is all I use it for as some of the scientific info. is over my head.  Best Wiccan Apps 6. Wicca Calendar This tech witch app gives you quick access to the Wheel of the Year. It tells you what the next sabbat is and gives a countdown. A few other cool features include phases of the moon (which you won’t necessarily need if you have a moon app), a glossary of Wiccan terms, and a spot for a mobile Book of Shadows (which is really just a notes section within the app). For beginners, this witchy app is perfect to remind you what sabbat is next. 7. Wiccan and Witchcraft Spells This app is super handy if you need ideas for spells. It lists various types of spells from animal spells to curse removal to protection spells and weight loss spells (and everything in between). In each category, there are at least a dozen easy spells to try out. If you don’t like something, you can always tailor it to fit your needs. Also use it to inspire your own spells and rituals.  Herb, Crystal, Ghost, & Rune Witchy Apps 8. Wicca Herbarium The Wicca Herbarium is my favorite herb app I’ve found so far. It lists herbs A-Z, the aesthetics are pretty, and you can search by name of the plant. Each herb pops up as a card, then after selecting the card, the herb’s scientific name is given plus its habitat, properties, planetary associations, and element. This app links […]
