What a clever little white witch,” Winifred Sanderson nearly admitted defeat when Alison drew a circle of salt around her for protection. We all know and love Hocus Pocus, and this part of the movie struck me as a child. Why salt? I used to think. Now that I’m a grown-ass witch, I know why. Salt is one of the most powerful ingredients in a witch’s arsenal. Learn about the potency of salt magick, and how to use the different types of salt in your witchcraft. Why is Salt So Magical? Salt isn’t just for flavoring food, its also great for making magick. But why is salt so magical? Salt is a pure substance made in the earth or from the sea. Therefore it carries the very essence of the earth and water elements. For example, sea salt carries the water element’s properties, while Himalayan pink salt carries the earth’s. Whichever salt magick you choose to make, know that it will be effective. Witches have used salt magick for centuries. 8 Types of Salt and Their Magical Properties There are dozens of kinds of salts found worldwide, all of which contain their own unique magical properties. Here’s our top 10 favorite magical salts: 1. Sea Salt Sea salt comes from the sea, as its name suggests. Therefore it carries the power of the sea and the water element. You can find sea salt at nearly any grocery store for an affordable price. Sea salt is purifying, protective, and great as an offering to sea spirits and deities. 2. Himayalan Pink Salt Himalayan pink salt is a popular choice these days. Pink salt comes in chunky and powder form (and literally in lamp-form) and is used for culinary purposes. They call it the “purest salt on earth” because it’s been maturing in the earth for over 250 million years! This type of salt magically decalcifies your pineal gland (opens your third eye) AND has an added magical property of self love and romance. This salt gets its pink color from the iron in it, and therefore is a powerful warding ingredient as well. 3. Witches Black Salt Witches black salt is a powerful substance and a favorite among witches. It is NOT edible because it’s made of your choice of salt and ashes. The ashes come from your firepit or herb bundle remnants. Some witches also use cast-iron scrapings from their cauldron and mix it into salt. Black salt is protective and useful in banishing, binding, and reversal spells. 4. Kosher Salt The main difference between regular salt and kosher salt is that kosher salt has been blessed by a Jewish rabbi. It is used in the kosher process of drawing blood out of meat, in compliance with Jewish religious law. Kosher salt is large and flaky and can be used in magic to quickly draw out or absorb negativity (just as it absorbs blood from meat)! 5. Table Salt You might be wondering, is table salt just as effective in magic as the other fancy salts? In my experience, it works just as well as sea or pink salt in magic. Does it taste as good as pink or sea salt? Not usually. And therein lies the difference. Not to mention it’s not as healthy for you as other less-processed salts. However, using it to purify, protect, and in ritual is perfectly acceptable if you have nothing else. 6. Hawaiian Black Salt Hawaiian black salt is an exotic culinary salt harvested from the evaporating water on the Hawaiian island Molokai. It is natural and has activated charcoal added to it giving it that black color. Using Hawaiian black salt in your practice invokes the power and beauty of the Hawaiian islands and its volcanoes. This salt is extra-strength. 7. Alaea Red Salt Alaea salt is red and is used in Hawaiian cuisine and spiritual customs. The alaea added to the salt gives it its red color is actually volcanic clay that is rich in iron oxide. Hawaiians use this salt to cleanse their tools, canoes and homes. When used as a seasoning, alaea red salt is healthy as it is high in nutrients (80+). It is more difficult (and expensive) to purchase authentic Hawaiian alaea red salt, as most of it is now produced in California and not in Hawaii. Salt Magick: Ways to Use Salt in Your Witchcraft Practice The way you use salt in your practice is completely up to you and only limited to your creativity and preference. Here’s just a few witchy ways to make salt magick: In Kitchen Witchcraft: salt flavors food, draws out spiritual impurities, cleanses and protects (note Witches Black salt isn’t edibile) Spread salt over your thresholds and windowsills to absorb negative energy and ward off spirits Encircle your house or sacred space as a protective barrier Bowls of salt placed around the home absorb bad vibes Cleanse crystals and other tools by placing in a bowl of salt Sprinkle a tablespoon of salt to the bath to cleanse the aura and aid in healing Add a tablespoon to moon water to increase its purifying effects Encircle your candle spells with salt to contain the energy and protect from negative energy Add salt to spell bottles, bags, jars, and herbal pillows Include salt magick in your foot soaks Incorporate salt in your magical sprays to cleanse the home and sacred space before ritual Salt, while generally not encouraged in spirit work, can be used as offering to certain deities including Berchta (whose cult lived and worked in salt mines) and sea salt given to sea gods like Poseidon or Lyr More MAGICAL Ingredients in Your Kitchen: Honey Magic: The Magical Properties, History and Uses of Honey 12 Magical Ways to Use Basil Rosemary Magical Properties and Uses

Basil Magic: 12 POWERFUL Ways to Use Basil in Your Craft https://otherworldlyoracle.com/basil-magic/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=basil-magic&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=basil-magic https://otherworldlyoracle.com/basil-magic/#comments Sat, 04 Jul 2020 19:33:14 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5216 Everybody’s talking that rosemary magic, and I’m over here like what about the basil? Seriously, basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow, the tastiest to eat, AND has multiple magical properties and uses. Learn all about basil magic here. What is Basil and Why Is It SO Magical? Basil, Ocimum basilicum, is a bright green Mediterranean herb that’s not only edible but also magical. It’s an herb yet it can be eaten as if it’s a vegetable. Basil is easy to grow with lots of sun and water and makes a tasty addition to so many meals! In addition to its many culinary and a few medicinal uses, basil is versatile in the craft. Here’s 8 ways you can use basil magic to fuel your intentions: 1. Money Basil Pesto Since basil is so tasty and aromatic, using it in your kitchen Witchery seems a no-brainer. A basil pesto is delicious on pizza, poultry, and more. While you’re making the pesto, visualize drawing in money. Then when you eat it, visualize dollar signs. 2. Basil-lined Pockets Basil has money-drawing properties so add three leaves to your wallet, purse, piggy bank, or even line your pockets with it before a big career move, etc. 3. Basil Magic in the Bath When combined with cleansing herbs like rosemary and rue, basil packs a big punch. It works to remove hexes, break down barriers, and cleanse the individual of negative energy and entities. Add it to the ritual bath and submerge entirely to feel its effects. 4. Basil Tea While it’s not my favorite way to consume basil, basil tea is powerful in its own regard. The bright green color of basil links it to our heart chakra, which is also a bright shade of emerald. Drinking basil tea will help align, unblock and open your heart chakra for those who need an emotional boost or cleansing. 5. Spell Bags and Bottles Dried basil leaves have so many uses. One of the easiest ways to use basil in your magic is to add them to your spell bags, jars and bottles. They’re useful in money spells (as previously mentioned), but also for love, fidelity, banishing and cleansing purposes. 6. Magical Powders Add dried basil to your home protection powders then spread across the thresholds and windowsills to deter evil and promote positive vibes in the home. 7. Herbal Oils And Ointments Infuse basil into oils and use the oil to anoint candles for candle magic, anoint your doorways and windows, or your chakra points before meditation. 8. Sacred Space Sprays Make your own herbal spray using a basil infusion and a little witch hazel, bottle it and spray it around your sacred space to cleanse and bring blessings. It can also be used to spray your entire house and raise the vibrations. 9. Salads and Sandwiches Basil is delicious when added to a salad. You’ll get a pop of flavor amidst lettuce, spinach and greens. Or add it to a grilled cheese sandwich with a slice of tomato. Make these easy basil recipes regularly and eat to draw new love, promote fidelity, draw good luck and money. 10. Basil Magic: Front Door Wash Having turmoil, illness or conflict in the home? Make an infusion of basil, sage and rosemary and wash your front door from bottom to top. This front door wash cleanses but also promotes peace and prosperity in the home. 11. Hang in the Kitchen Grow basil in a pot or in your garden. Basil is bi-annual so after a few years it will go to seed. Once this happens, harvest the entire plant and hang upside in your kitchen. This basil bouquet will ward off evil and bring blessings to the hearth. 12. Herb Butter Spread Add basil to butter and spread it over fresh baked bread, roasted vegetables and more. One of the fairies’ favorite offerings is bread and butter. And if the butter has basil in it, they’ll really love you. GROW IT! If I could recommend growing one herb only it would be basil. The versatility, the taste, the aroma of basil is enough for any witch to grow it in the garden. It’s pretty pest-resilient and needs more water than other herbs but still easy to grow. It’s also safe to have around children and pets. And it grows easily in pots or in the ground! Tales of the Crystals Vintage Game & How to Recreate It For Yourself! https://otherworldlyoracle.com/tales-of-the-crystals-vintage-game/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tales-of-the-crystals-vintage-game&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tales-of-the-crystals-vintage-game https://otherworldlyoracle.com/tales-of-the-crystals-vintage-game/#comments Wed, 03 Jun 2020 13:12:41 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4979 One of my favorite games as a little girl was Tales of the Crystals. It was an interactive, role-playing game where the players have different roles but ultimately have to protect an imaginary fantasy land called Collingwood. There are fairies, sprites, talking trees and evil witches in it. Read my full review, check out the photos AND learn how to recreate this wonderful game for yourself! Any little girl or boy would love to play this game. What is Tales of the Crystals Game? In the early 90’s, MiltonBradley released a fantasy game called Tales of the Crystals. To put it simply, Tales of the Crystals is an interactive game that encourages the players to use their imaginations and get outside. The game consists of various pieces that are used by the players to either set a scene/setting or to be used as “tools” to complete the game’s tasks. The best part is this – the game is based on a fantasy world called Collingwood, a land full of fairies, talking trees, evil witches, gnomes and more! It’s similar to Dungeons and Dragons but appropriate for young children and EXTREMELY imaginative! My Memory of Tales of the Crystals and Nurturing My Inner Child When I was eight I received this game as a birthday gift. I was so taken with it, I would take the pieces out and imagine playing it with my friends. I remember playing it a few times with friends and cousins and LOVED it more than any other game! We would play part of the game outside and hide behind large oak trees. We always dressed up in flowy skirts or tutus when playing the game…sometimes even fairy wings! How to Find a Copy OR… Something about this game has stuck with me over the years and when I started to look for it, I learned Milton Bradley no longer makes the game. So the only way to find the game is to acquire a vintage copy. I finally found a copy on eBay recently and it’s in wonderful condition. There were a few items missing; however, my daughter and I had fun recreating those pieces. I recommend making your own version of this game and playing with your kiddos! You’re never too old to nurture your inner child and encourage their imagination. How to Create Your Own Tales of the Crystals Game Tales of the Crystals is difficult to find, and when they’re online they cost anywhere from fifty dollars and up. So if you don’t want to spend the cash on a vintage edition of this game, why not try recreating your own? First, you’ll need to gather tools and pieces to use in place of the original game pieces. Learn how below: Tales of the Crystals Game Pieces Tape cassette with 4 main challenges: you don’t need the tape cassette and TBH, who has a tape player anymore to play the tape? You can find the entire tape cassette soundtrack on YouTube for free! Click here to listen to the full playlist AND listen to the first part below!: Heart box (to carry items): any small box will work in place of the original plastic heart box. Even a shoebox if you have nothing else! Decorate the shoebox with glitter, stickers, etc. to make it special 4 crystal necklaces (each crystal has a special power for the wearer): literally any crystal pendant or beaded necklace will work in place of the plastic crystals. Make sure you have 4: a red, purple, green and clear A magic mirror (allows you to read the challenges on the cards because they’re written backwards): any small compact mirror or handheld mirror will work! Spider crystal (the antagonist Lady Morphia’s evil crystal): I replaced the missing spider crystal from my game with a small piece of smoky quartz. But any small dark item like a stone or crystal is perfect. Magic crystal powder packets (two packets of powder used by the players to heal/fix/protect throughout the game): my game was missing the powder packets. We recreated the magic crystal powder by mixing sugar and glitter and bottling it in small vials (shown) 5 Location Banners (each banner is used to designate a particular setting in the game): cut-out construction or cardstock paper and put it on string. Five banners, each saying one of the following: Secret Garden, The Village, Whispering Forest, Oriana’s Glen and Lady Morphia’s Castle Instruction Book and Journal: the instruction book is not needed but you may be able to find one online in PDF format or as a separately sold piece on eBay (see instructions on how to play below). The journal can be a simple composition or notebook and pencil. Challenge Cards: in the original game there are 54 total challenge cards (cards with special tasks written on each). They’re split in half, the red deck is to be used with stories 1 and 3, and the blue deck with stories 2 and 4. You can recreate these by typing/printing out 54 different tasks, BUT 54 isn’t necessary. My family hardly ever gets through 10 of these per game. Two examples are: “Lady Morphia has left her castle of dread. Write her a teasing message, then sneak it into her castle for her to find.” And “Lady Morphia has made plans to cut down the trees in the Whispering Forest. You must protect the trees by sprinkling a little magic crystal powder around them.” Wheel of Choices Board (used to solve debates, etc.): a circular piece of paper, cardstock or decorated cardboard can be used in place. Draw the Wheel of Choices Board into 4 pie pieces with each of the following written: one piece should say “No, Leader, Orianna’s Glen”, the next “Yes, Healer, Whispering Forest”, the next “No, Protector, The Village”, and the next “Yes, Scribe, Secret Garden”. 4 crystals for the wheel of choices board (these crystals are tossed on the Wheel of Choices board and read to determine the […]

Magical Properties of Fruits and Their Ritual Uses for Modern Witches https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-properties-of-fruits/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-properties-of-fruits&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-properties-of-fruits https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-properties-of-fruits/#comments Fri, 29 May 2020 22:30:33 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=5031 Have you ever eaten a banana and thought it was magical? How about an apple or strawberries? Fruits are some of the most magical ingredients on the planet and often overlooked in the witchy community. Here we dive into the magical properties of fruits and discuss their ritual uses. Magical Properties of Fruits A-Z We will cover the most common fruits and their magical properties starting from A and going to Z. Think about it like this – if you don’t choose to use fruit in ritual or spells, just eating fruit on a daily basis makes every day magical! Magical Properties of Fruit: Apple Magic & Its Uses The apple is one of the most magical fruits IMO. If you cut it in half horizontally, the sign of the pentagram is hidden within. Apples are linked to the Otherworld (Avalon) and to the Goddess therefore are potent fruits to eat or include in a divination session. They are also linked to love and healing. Ever heard the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Dry apple slices and add them to magical teas, spell bags, desserts and more! Banana Magical Properties: Fertility and Virility If you thought the banana was related to fertility because of its shape, you were right! Bananas should be eaten by men to increase fertility and virility. The banana is ruled by Venus (the planet of Love) and the Water element. The Banana tree is hermaphroditic, meaning it’s both male and female, and thus represents the gods in some Voodoo rites. Banana slices can be dried and used in fertility and prosperity spells. BlackBerry Magic: Protection and the Underworld The blackberry’s first magical property is protection. Why? If you’ve ever gone picking blackberries you’ll know it’s not an easy feat. The blackberry grows on a bush called a bramble because it’s FULL of thorns. BlackBerry is a favorite fruit among witches, it’s dark purple to black-ish color symbolizing mystery, magic, and the Underworld. It’s color connects to the third eye. Eat blackberries or drink their juice before divination. You can also use the juice as face paint to evoke dark goddesses before ritual. Blueberry Magical Properties: Speak YOUR Truth Blueberries are sweet, magical fruits that pack a healthy antioxidant punch. In herbal books, you might see them called bilberries. Their blue color links them to the throat chakra. Eat blueberries to clear your aura and speak your truth. Powdered blueberries can be sprinkled over thresholds to cleanse and protect a space or used in healing, peace, and communication rituals. Cherry Magical Properties and Uses: Love and Lust Cherries are one of my favorite fruits and for good reason! Cherries are linked to the root chakra, passion, love and more. This love fruit’s rulers are the planet Venus and the Water element. Eat cherries to increase your attractiveness and induce lust. Drink the juice before giving love tarot readings. Coconut Magic Properties The coconut is useful for many magical and medicinal purposes including for purification and protection. The coconut’s magic properties also include fertility and chastity. Those seem like polarizing concepts, but the end result is up to the practitioner. The hard shell of the coconut screams protection: fill the coconut with herbs, crystals, etc and bury on your property to shield the home. Drink coconut milk and eat coconut to increase fertility and love. I personally associate the coconut with survival, as it seems to be the fruit that lost castaways and survivalists find in the tropics that keeps them alive! What a MAGICAL fruit! Kiwi Magical Fruit: Mother Earth Love and Health Growing up one of my favorite magical fruits was the kiwi. The magical tropical fruit originates in China but is purchased in nearly every produce aisle. It’s green fruit links it to the heart chakra, therefore linking us to the love of Mother Earth. The abundant seeds spell out fertility and the protective brown skin indicate protection. This fruit is high in vitamins and is said to lower blood pressure when eaten in a balanced diet. Also used as an offering to ancient Chinese gods. Lemon Magical Properties and Uses Lemons are powerful purifiers. If you have a lemon or lemon juice in your kitchen, you have a way to cleanse your space and yourself. Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the bath to cleanse the aura. Add a bit to the mop water in a cleansing floor wash. Also ruled by Venus and the Water element, lemons are magical in many ways and are connected to the solar plexus. Add lemon to a cup of water to kickstart your metabolism in the morning. Mango Magical Properties and Uses Another tropical fruit, the mango originates in Southern Asia and Eastern India. It’s a favorite there today as well as in The Philippines. The dark yellow fruit connects to the solar plexus and therefore can be eaten to increase self confidence, personal power, and success. The mango is a symbol of joy and love and is given as a gift to increase the receiver’s luck. It’s also a sign of friendship. Incorporate into rituals that involve your friends, particularly a full moon Esbat. Orange Magical Properties and Uses Oranges are representative of success, growth, and the Sun. Eat oranges and drink orange juice to increase creativity, aid in aligning your sacral chakra, and therefore promote healthy self sexuality. Dry orange slices and add to career and confidence spells. Hang on garlands with cinnamon to bring prosperity to the household. Add to Christmas stockings to beckon the sun’s return. One of my favorite fruits to use when utilizing the magical properties of fruits. Pineapple Magical Properties They say to eat a butt-load of pineapple to stimulate labor if you’re baby’s not wanting to come. I ate some…two days later it worked? LOL! But for real, pineapple is a magical fruit and tree for many reasons. It’s linked to fertility and in fact it’s said Polynesian women were forbidden from eating it. […]

Full Moon FOOD Guide: Moon-themed Food For Your Next Esbat or Ritual https://otherworldlyoracle.com/full-moon-food-guide/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=full-moon-food-guide&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=full-moon-food-guide https://otherworldlyoracle.com/full-moon-food-guide/#comments Fri, 08 May 2020 22:50:35 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4850 Every eclipse or full moon party has one thing in common: FOOD and DRINK. If you’re planning a magical lunar get together with friends, family or coven, you’ll need a moon-themed menu to nourish and inspire your guests! Here’s our Full Moon FOOD Guide including Cookies, cakes, moon milk and more! The Full Moon FOOD Guide: Moon-shaped Foods So when I think of Full Moon food, I think of any food that is crescent, circular or sphere-shaped. The first thing that comes to mind is croissant rolls. These are SO versatile! Dunk them in soups or stews OR offer as a side item to nearly any meal. And they look and sound like “crescent” moon. Do your foods have to look like the Full Moon? I think any moon-shaped foods will do the trick. Crescent Moon Spell Cookies Another popular Full Moon food is crescent moon cookies or what some call moon spell cookies. You’ve probably seen them on Pinterest or on your witchy FaceBook group. Have you baked them yet? Are you worried you won’t be able to make that pretty crescent-shape? Pick up a crescent-moon cookie cutter on Amazon (super cheap) and purchase pre-made sugar cookie dough. So if you’re not a baker, no problem! This is the easiest way to make crescent moon cookies. Russian Tea Cakes = Moon Balls How about those Russian tea cakes, also called snowballs, Grandma used to make at Christmas-time? Don’t they sort of look like miniature moons or planets? What about also taking the regular round sugar cookie and painting chocolate over each to show the different phases of the moon? You can do SO much with cookies and cakes to turn them into memorable full moon food! Moon cakes are a traditional dessert in China to celebrate the annual Lunar festival. They are similar to sugar cookies and sometimes incorporate ingredients like nuts and fruit jams. Look up a recipe and give this traditional moon dessert a try! Cut Veggies and Foods into the Moon! Enough with the baked goods, what about regular foods that are moon shaped? Honestly, i had a hard time thinking of any, until i realized you can pretty much cut any vegetable or fruit into crescent or at least half-moon type shapes. BOOM. Zucchini, bananas, squash, even potatoes can be sliced and cut in half to resemble a half moon. Mix in whole pieces to have waxing/waning and full moon slices. Full Moon Food: Moon Milk for Full Moon Esbat Parties and Ritual A big tea trend in the past few years is something call moon milk. It’s a frothy milky herbal tea based on Ayurvedic (Indian) medicine. There are literally hundreds of moon milk recipes out there, particularly circulating on Pinterest. And you can choose the moon milk with ingredients that might support your magical intentions for the next Full Moon. Magical Blue Moon Milk (My Personal Recipe) This tea recipe is one that I’ve used many times, particularly powerful on a full BLUE moon. The blue color of the tea (made possible by the amazing butterfly pea flowers) is a nod to the “blue” moon symbolism, and the ingredients used support feminine health: body, mind and soul. Which also links us to the Moon and oceans. I’ve found it also aids in cleansing one’s aura of negative vibrations. Drink it separate from your other full moon food choices, as it is filling. Ingredients: Butterfly pea flower – 1 tsp Jasmine flower – 1/2 tsp Almond milk – 8 ounces+ Honey for sweetening (optional) How to Make Blue Moon Milk: Heat the herbs and milk over the stove until warm, but don’t let it simmer. Strain out herbs. Use a milk frother to froth the moon milk OR use a whisk to create a slight froth on top (optional). Add a teaspoon of local raw honey for sweetening (also optional). Before drinking, offer a sip to the moon as an offering of gratitude, draw a moon in the air over the tea, then drink slowly. Visualize taking in the very moon beams into your body and soul. More Moon Milk Options Any herbal tea can be made into moon milk by substituting the herbs in the recipe above. Consider red hibiscus, which will tint the moon milk a beautiful dark pinkish to reddish shade. Perfect to ignite passion in yourself or partner. Add rosebuds for an extra oomph of loving vibes. Full Moon is a great time to manifest a new love or strengthen love with another and hibiscus-rose moon milk is the potion to drink! If you don’t already know, Full Moon is a time to manifest your dreams and goals. It’s a time to cast your most powerful spells and rituals. Why not do a little money-drawing magic by making matcha powder moon milk? Matcha is a beautiful green color and is in alignment with strong money energies. Foods & Herbs Connected to the Moon Every plant is linked to a planet or heavenly body. Here you’ll find a list of foods that are magically linked to the moon: Cabbage: make a full moon stew or honor your Irish ancestors with a sausage/pork and cabbage dish Coconut: add coconut to your cookies and cakes to increase the full moon energy Cucumber: great to cut into full and crescent moon shapes! Gourds: hello Fall Full Moon parties Grapes: fresh, dried (raisins), wine and champaigne Passion fruit Peas Peaches Pears Lemon Lettuce Papaya Potato: how many wonderful full moon food dishes can you make with potatoes? Turnips And edible herbs ruled by the Moon: Aloe: juice is great in cocktails! Camellia: hello black tea Chickweed: edible and bountiful in many backyards Passion Flower: flowers and leaves steeped as a tea are very relaxing and uplifting at the same time Jasmine: get jasmine tea variety Get Creative With Your Full Moon Food! Any food or beverage that reminds you of the moon or moon phases, incorporate it into your next full moon gathering or personal […]

Magical Days of the Week: Correspondences & Daily Energy https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-days-of-the-week/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-days-of-the-week&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-days-of-the-week https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-days-of-the-week/#comments Wed, 22 Apr 2020 18:51:51 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4958 Moon phases are a powerful way to time your rituals and magick. But did you know there’s other ways besides moon phases? What if you don’t have time to wait for the moon to grow full, can you use a specific day of the week? Of course you can. Here we look at the magical days of the week as another (quicker) option to time your rituals. 7 Magical Days of the Week and Their Correspondences Every day is magical; therefore, you can harness the energy of a specific magical day of the week instead of waiting for a planet to move or the moon to cycle. 1. Sunday Magick Sunday is named for…you guessed it…the Sun! So we can think of this weekday’s magick as everything related to the sun. Cast your spells and perform rituals on Sunday for the following intentions: growth, prosperity, strength, vitality, healing, opportunity, money and victory. Sunday’s magical correspondences: Magical Intentions: abundance, growth, enlightenment, strength, healing Crystals: citrine, sunstone, pyrite, gold, goldstone, carnelian, orange calcite, tiger’s eye, amber Herbs: sunflower, chamomile, calendula, marigold, bergamot, oak, rosemary, oregano Gods/Goddesses: Helios, Amaterasu, Sunna, Sulis, Ra, Bastet, Sekhmet, Freyr, Apollo, Belenos, Aurora 2. Monday Magick We often dread Mondays, but Monday has a special kind of magick that might make you think differently. Monday is named after the Moon. Therefore, all magick related to the moon can also be performed on a Monday! No more waiting for the right moon cycle if you have an immediate need. Cast spells and perform rituals for the following intentions: love, healing, intuition, psychic abilities, dreams, emotional balance, friendship, purification, fertility, shadow and spirit work. Monday’s Magical Correspondences: Magical Intentions: intuition, dreams, shadow work, psychic abilities, emotional balance, friendship Crystals/Metals: silver, moonstone, pearl, fluorite, amethyst, quartz, sapphire Herbs: moonflower, jasmine, gardenia, white rose Gods/Goddesses: Thoth, Selene, Diana, Artemis, Luna, Hecate, Phoebe, Kalfu 3. Tuesday’s Magick Tuesday’s name isn’t as easy to figure out. Tuesday is named after the Norse god of lightning, justice, and war – Tyr. When Tuesday rolls around, my mom and I say, Happy Tyr’s Day! Being that Tyr was a powerful god with strength and virility, the magick you perform on Tuesday should include: justice/legal issues, protection, binding, banishing, reversal, courage, power, passion, self esteem and confidence, and more. Not surprisingly, Tuesday is ruled by the planet Mars (also a god of war). Tuesday’s Magick Correspondences: Magical Intentions: legal matters, justice, protection, binding, banishing, reversal, courage, self confidence Crystals: carnelian, ruby, bloodstone, garnet, red jasper Herbs: dragon’s blood, nettle, thistle, thorns, wormwood, hawthorn, red flowers and plants associated with Mars Gods/Goddesses: Tyr, Mars, Apollo, Maeve, Bran, Ares, Valkyries, Sekhmet, Kali, The Morrigan, any war or justice deity 4. Wednesday’s Magick Wednesday is also a day that acquired its name from an old Norse god – Odin. In the Germanic, in particular Saxon tribes, he was also called Woten or Wodin, hence Wednes-day or Woden’s day. Odin is the All-Father in the Norse pantheon and rules wisdom, mischief, poetry, quests and the runes (among many other things). Wednesday is ruled by the planet Mercury, which rules communication and more. 10 FREE Witchcraft Practices For Those on a Budget https://otherworldlyoracle.com/free-witchcraft-practices/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=free-witchcraft-practices&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=free-witchcraft-practices https://otherworldlyoracle.com/free-witchcraft-practices/#comments Sun, 29 Mar 2020 13:52:49 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4911 Whether you are struggling financially or just want to save some money, there are ways to practice witchcraft for FREE. People come to the craft and think they should buy all these sparkly tools and supplies, but that’s absolutely not true. I grew up in the craft as a teen using only items from nature and things I could already find in my house. And you can too! Here’s our 20 ways to practice witchcraft for FREE. Ways to Practice FREE Witchcraft There are so many ways to practice your craft that don’t require you to spend your last earned dollar. I’m sure you’ll be able to come up with a few on your own, but here’s some recommendations: 1. Foraging for Magical Supplies Feel like a total ancient bad-ass forager and find your magical herbs, tools, and supplies outside! Learn what native plants are in your area. Harvest only what you need. But common natural items like acorns, pinecones, branches, stones, and seed pods are all FREE witchcraft tools! 2. Divination With Nature Instead of buying an expensive collection of tarot cards, divination can be done outside for free. Learn and practice reading the clouds’ patterns, patterns in sand or rock, or even omens and signs brought by wildlife. Bird augury is one of my favorites and costs literally nothing! 3. Earthing and Grounding Two easy and essential witchcraft practices that are also FREE are earthing and grounding. Earthing is simply walking outside barefoot and allowing your energy to meld with Mother Earth’s. Grounding is a simple meditation in which you visualize your root chakra flowing down into the earth and connecting with the earth in a beautiful, balancing way. Learn more about these practices here. 4. Connect With Land Spirits One way to connect with the land where you live is to make a genius loci profile. This is where you mark off a page in your grimoire specifically to note the wildlife in your area, including animals, insects, plants, trees, and bodies of water. Once you are able to identify your genius loci, you’ll find yourself connected to the spirits of the land. FOR FREE. 5. Pray and Invoke Praying to the Universe, your ancestors, or your gods costs literally nothing and can be done anywhere at any time. Invoking, as well. Plus it builds a relationship with our deities and makes us feel better! 6. Makeshift Altars and Biodegradable Offerings This is a free witchcraft practice that’s also helpful for those who can’t have an altar at home – makeshift natural altars. Have a nearby forest you can escape to? Or even a large yard? Make an altar for your gods or familiars using the top of a stump, large rock, etc. Add biodegradable tools and offerings made of sticks, stones, leaves, feathers, flowers, and more! The thought and effort you put into this is just as appreciated by the gods as a fancy offering bought from a store! 7. Free Books You don’t have to spend a ton of money on witchy and magical books. Borrow from the library or from a friend. If your library doesn’t have witchcraft books, check out other books that will be helpful to your craft including books on: mythology, folklore, gardening, herbalism, crystals, alternative healing modalities, etc. Also check out sacredtexts.org, where you can view hundreds of occult books for free! 8. Meditation Meditation is helpful for everyone to learn to relax, release, and re-connect. It’s also FREE. You can listen to guided meditations for free on YouTube or Spotify. Or simply go outside and watch the trees blowing in the wind. That’s meditation enough, trust me. 9. Magical Household Tools Use what you have on-hand. Don’t buy a ton of magical tools if you don’t have the budget. The items you have in your house are free to you now, so use them! For example, your tea kettle makes magical tea. The tea itself has herbs and plant material, all of which have magical properties. Need something to use as an offering bowl? A bowl from your kitchen! 10. Dream Journaling Our dreams aren’t just jumbled up thoughts and pictures from the day. They are a mirror of our souls, a portal to other worlds and a channel of communication between us and the gods/ancestors. Dreams are free! Record them in a plain notebook or journal (whatever you have). Review and analyze them to gain insight. 6 Famous Witches of the Twentieth Century: Valiente, Leek and More https://otherworldlyoracle.com/famous-witches-twentieth-century/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=famous-witches-twentieth-century&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=famous-witches-twentieth-century https://otherworldlyoracle.com/famous-witches-twentieth-century/#respond Mon, 16 Mar 2020 15:51:41 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4880 Here you will read about six famous witches from the twentieth century who made a name for themselves and brought Wicca and witchcraft into the public eye. They also generated interest in witchcraft as a religious movement. Some of their motives and morals are questioned, but what will be presented here are simply the facts. The Rise of Modern Witchcraft If you haven’t heard, witchcraft is making a comeback in modern times. Some call the craft a magical practice, while others say it is their religion. Whatever the actual definition, there are modern-day witches who practice the craft in their daily lives. The present witchcraft movement can be attributed to certain courageous individuals in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Doreen Valiente: The Mother of Modern Witchcraft Valiente is known worldwide as the mother of modern witchcraft, but her beginnings were as humble as any. Doreen Edith Dominy Valiente was born in 1922 to a middle-class family living in Surrey, Southeast England. Doreen’s father was a civil engineer who also happened to be Methodist. Her mother was a Congregationalist. Despite her Christian upbringing, Doreen became interested in magic in her adolescent years. The Famous Witch’s Interests Grow As a young adult, she practiced magic with a friend and came across literature from a deceased doctor who was part of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. This book intrigued her, as well as Aleister Crowley’s books on ceremonial magic. In addition, Doreen studied esoteric religions including Spiritualism. Her passion for the mysteries only grew. Valiente Joins A Coven In the 1950s, Doreen Valiente reached out to Gerald Gardner, the founder of modern day Wicca. He invited her to join the Bricket Wood Coven, and she eventually became High Priestess. Following her time with Gardner, Valiente joined the Coven of Atho and the Clan of Tubal Cain. Valiente’s Literary Success But Valiente isn’t known for the covens she joined, she is most well-known for her writing. Valiente wrote The Charge of the Goddess and The Witch’s Rune, poetic pieces included in the Gardnerian Book of Shadows. Her research of the witch trials helped her write The ABCs of Witchcraft and Natural Magic. Valiente’s presence in the witchcraft community didn’t fizzle after her death, and many Wiccans and pagans honor her contribution to the movement. Rosaleen Norton: The Witch of Kings Cross Rosaleen Norton is one of the most controversial famous witches of the twentieth century. She was born in 1917 in New Zealand but lived most of her life in Kings Cross, Sydney, Australia. Rosaleen claimed she had a normal upbringing, but she hated being a child. She spent three years of her childhood living in a tent in her backyard, making friends with wildlife, having a pet spider. As she grew, her interest in the occult grew and she began painting demons and pagan gods. Her paintings were more than controversial – they sparked outright contempt. Norton’s Controversial Pagan Paintings Norton lost jobs with various newspapers and magazines because her artwork was too lewd or provocative. She also had the police crowding her at every art exhibition, sometimes confiscating her work. Norton claimed she was a pantheist pagan who worshiped Pan, although the papers spread rumors that she was a Satanist who engaged in animal sacrifice. Norton denied the malicious claims. The Famous Witch Norton’s Form of the Craft Rosaleen is known as the Witch of Kings Cross, and she started her own form of witchcraft “The Goat Fold”. Despite saying she wasn’t a Satanist, it was difficult for people to ignore Norton’s interest in demons. Her artwork has gone on display a few times in Sydney since her death in 1979, and a few biographies have been written on her life. Stewart and Janet Farrar: Famous Witch Couple Stewart and Janet Farrar were an English married couple who led a Wiccan coven in the late twentieth century. They are well known for their literary contributions, including A Witches Bible, The Witches’ Way, and Eight Sabbats for Witches. In the nineteen-seventies and nineteen-eighties, the Farrars appeared in a few interviews to answer questions about modern Wicca. The Farrars were initiated into Alexander and Maxine Sanders’ Coven; however, in the early nineteen-seventies, the Farrars started their own coven. Stewart passed away in 2000, and Janet re-married in 2014. Janet continues to write books and lecture on Wicca in various countries along with her husband Gavin. Sybil Leek: The Ordinary Famous Witch of New Forest Perhaps one of the most interesting figures in modern witchcraft was the self-acclaimed “Ordinary Witch of New Forest” Sybil Leek. Sybil was born in nineteen-seventeen to a middle class family in Staffordshire, England. She claimed to the “most wicked man in the world” Aleister Crowley. Leek wrote Diary of a Witch, detailing her coming to the craft and how she was influenced by a band of gypsies in New Forest. She also claimed to have joined a French witch coven after her husband’s untimely death. Sybil’s Claim to the Craft Sybil was a witch, psychic, and astrologer and was well-known for being eccentric. Her eccentricity included having a pet jackdaw that perched on her shoulder during interviews. Her Russian grandmother was a huge inspiration for her interest in the Old Religion. Sybil claimed she was a descendant of Molly Leigh, an accused witch who died in England in seventeen-forty-six. The Famous “Ordinary Witch’s” Death Throughout her life she dealt with fame and scrutiny, and she wrote more than sixty books on witchcraft, astrology, and the occult. She eventually moved to the United States to a comfortable, warm home in Florida. Sybil died in nineteen-eighty-two at her home in Melbourne, Florida. She was sixty-five-years-old and died of cancer. Despite those who smeared her name, Sybil was humble and referred to herself as an “ordinary witch”. Gerald Gardner: The Founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner is known as the founder of Wicca. Yet his name is controversial in modern times. Gerald Gardner was born in eighteen-eighty-four in Lancashire, England to […]

Magical Cleaning: How to Enchant Your Chores in 5 Witchy Ways https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-cleaning/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-cleaning&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=magical-cleaning https://otherworldlyoracle.com/magical-cleaning/#comments Sun, 15 Mar 2020 22:31:18 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4868 Whether you run a household or not, everyone has chores. And nearly everyone has an aversion to cleaning, laundry, and all those other pesky home duties. But why not make cleaning a magical, empowering experience? Here’s how to turn your cleaning routine into a magical one and enchant your home in 5 witchy ways! What is Magical Cleaning? We all have to clean house. Do the dishes, mop the floors, dust the furniture. What happens when we add a little magic to our chores? We get magical cleaning! It’s a thing, I promise. And if you work a little witchcraft into your cleaning routine, you’ll thank me when your home feels lighter, brighter, and healthier. Here’s how to change your cleaning duties into an enchanting ritual: 5 Magical Cleaning Tricks and Rituals Feel free to adjust our recommendations to fit your needs and preferences. Add your own twist to these witchy household chores: 1. A Witchy Way to Clean the Floors Mopping the floors takes the longest in my house. I live in a warm climate where we have mostly hard floors so I have to first vacuum then mop. It takes double the time! So I’ve found a few ways to work some magic into my floor routine: Craft and use floor sweeps or floor washes. A floor sweep is a herbal mixture that you sprinkle over hard floors for a specific intention. A floor wash is an herbal infusion used to mop the floors. Add moon water to the mop water. Move in a counterclockwise fashion from the front door, around the house, ending again at the front door (counterclockwise is a banishing/cleansing motion) Sing or chant while mopping the floors! 2. Magical Dish Washing Most of us despise doing the dishes. I look at dish-washing time as a time when I can drift off into the ether…I day dream, visualize, and pray to my guides and ancestors while I wash the dishes. You’ll find the time passes WAY quicker this way! In addition, read the soap bubble patterns in the water as a form of old school divination. 3. Laundry with a Witchy Twist Laundry is another chore that most of us feel is rather monotonous. As soon as we’ve done a load of laundry, another has piled up. Make the laundry process a little more magical by doing these things: Add a bit of moon water to the wash (I like to keep a small bottle handy in the laundry room for this reason) Add ten drops of lavender essential oil to the wash (this makes it smell nice plus adds intentions of love, healing, purification, and more!) Invoke water goddess and spirits while doing the wash: Abnoba, Yemaya, Atargatis. Weaving goddesses are also appropriate: Berchta, the Fates, Spider Grandmother, etc. 4. The Magical Front Door & Patio Nowadays one spot of the house that’s often neglected is the front door and patio or walkway. In old school American folk magic, the front door and patio played an important part in the fortune and health of the household. In Feng Shui, the front door and walkway are also important for energy flow. Your front door and patio should be cleaned often of debris, dust, leaves and the like. Sweep your front porch from left to right to lock out negativity. Then wash your front door with an herbal infusion of basil, rosemary, and chamomile for protection, purification and luck. Spread red brick dust and other salt and herb powders over the front door threshold for protection. 5. Adding Magical Charms Following every big cleaning I do at my house, I lay some sort of magical charm down. What I mean is this – once I’ve cleaned my front door and patio (as mentioned in the previous section), then I lay down red brick dust or a protective powder over my threshold. You can apply this to any room or area you’ve cleaned. Washed the windows down? Now draw protective sigils over the frames with a bit of oil or chalk. After you’ve cleaned your kitchen, invoke your household spirits and burn a red candle in their honor. Your Own Magical Cleaning Tricks + Have Fun With It! You’ll create your own magical cleaning routine as time goes by. It’s about being mindful and creative! Experiment with different ideas and magical tidbits. Search Pinterest and books for new witchy cleaning ideas. Every week I try to do one new witchy thing, and I try to fit it into an everyday routine or ritual. Magick doesn’t have to be elaborate or difficult. It can be as easy as meditating while doing the dishes or chanting while dusting the furniture. Turn on a good tune and dance while you clean, too! This livens the energy in the house and raises your vibrations. More Magical Household Info: Make the ULTIMATE Magical Household With These Decorating Tips Home Protection Powders: Make Your Own! The Kingmoor Ring: The Magical Ring That Inspired Lord of the Rings https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kingmoor-ring/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kingmoor-ring&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kingmoor-ring https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kingmoor-ring/#respond Sat, 29 Feb 2020 15:27:26 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4539 “One ring to rule them all and in the darkness bind them.” The Lord of the Rings is a classic (and popular) fictional trilogy written by JRR Tolkien in the twentieth century. If you haven’t read the books, maybe you’ve seen the movies. The epic fantasy is based on a powerful ring and the struggle and intent to destroy it before it destroys the known world. Did you know the ring was inspired by a REAL Viking ring that resides in the British Museum? Learn about Tolkien and the Kingmoor Ring here. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien, English professor and Father of Modern Fantasy, wrote The Lord of the Rings in the mid twentieth century. Only decades later, it had become a worldwide phenomenon. And the popularity has only grown with the release of the blockbuster movies in the past two decades. But something most fantasy fans don’t know about Tolkien – he had an interest in magic and the occult. His work was inspired by much of his mythological studies, namely Anglo-Saxon myths featuring trolls, elves, wizards, dwarves and more. JRR Tolkien was part of a writers’ club called Inklings along with another classical fantasy writer CS Lewis. Maybe you’ve heard of him? JRR Tolkien and the Kingmoor Ring Tolkien, well-versed in Anglo-Saxon lore and the Elder futhark, was inspired by a Viking artifact known as the Kingmoor Ring. The Kingmoor Ring was a significant archaeological find in the early 1800’s, being a gold ring of Viking origin inscribed with thirty runes. It is believed the ring was created and worn in the ninth century by a Viking to ward off illness. JRR Tolkien saw the ring and thought “the ring of power”. Henceforth, he wrote The Lord of the Rings, a fantasy sequel to the earlier Hobbit book of literary fame. The Magical Role of the “Finger-Ring” in the Ninth and Tenth Centuries The Kingmoor Ring is one of forty tenth-century Medieval finger rings found in England over the past few centuries. According to Perry Mesney at Cardiff University, the finger ring during this age was worn by wealthy individuals OR by the literate. And these runic rings were worn on a regular basis, indicating the Kingmoor Ring and others were employed as amulets or talismans. Scholars believe these Medieval runic rings were made and inscribed by runemasters. In the case of Tolkien’s Ring of Power, it wasn’t runemasters but elfen kings…close enough! The Runes on the Kingmoor Ring The ring that’s described in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, plus the ring prop on the movies, looks similar to the Kingmoor Ring. You can compare below. But what are those weird markings on the Kingmoor Ring and Tolkien’s Ring of Power? Elder futhark runes, an ancient Anglo-Saxon/Norse alphabet used as an alphabet that also had spiritual significance. Runes are a key component in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They’re featured on the Ring of Power, of course, but also above doorways and in other magical places. Why was Tolkien so taken by the ancient runic alphabet and the Kingmoor Ring? Perhaps he used runes himself in his spiritual pursuits. He was, after all, an occultist of sorts. So What Does the Kingmoor Ring Say? The Kingmoor Ring doesn’t just have inscribed runes, it’s also inscribed with bind-runes. A bind-rune is a combination of two or more runes written/inscribed together for a specific sacred spiritual purpose. For instance, I could draw/write the rune Gebo together with the rune Algiz to spiritually protect my marriage (Gebo significes a union and Algiz signifies protection). Therefore, the Kingmoor Ring had a magical purpose to protect its wearer from illness and/or misfortune or evil spirits. Our ancestors believed illnesses were caused BY evil spirits. So – double purpose. Here are the runes inscribed on the Kingmoor Ring: ᛭ᚨᚱᛦᚱᛁᚢᚠᛚᛏᛦᚱᛁᚢᚱᛁᚦᚩᚾᚷᛚᚨᚴᛏᚨᛈᚩᚾ / ᛏᚨᚿ And the translation: ærkriufltkriuriþonglæstæpon/tol The ending – tol is inscribed on the inside of the Kingmoor Ring. Mesney explains this is probably due to the smaller size of the ring and so the runemaster who made it ran out of room on the exterior. But perhaps, instead, that one syllable – tol was purposely put on the inside so as to be closer to its wearer. Literally touching the individual’s finger. Love History and Lore?
