They are are powerful spiritual beings that, with the right mindset and hard work, can aid you in your magical rituals and spells. Healing, dreaming, and intuition are gifted from the fay to the willing and pure-of-heart. In addition to calling on and using offerings to attract the fay, you can align yourself with fay energy by brewing and drinking fairy potions. What is a fairy potion? What is a fairy potion? A fairy potion is a cool or hot drink that’s intended to align oneself with fairy energy. Typically, fruits, herbs and honey are ingredients used in faery elixirs. This is because many fairies are attracted to certain fruits and herbs that grow in the garden. And honey is a natural sweetener and a product of honeybees (sacred to fairies). It’s about getting to know which ingredients have fairy folklore and energy attached. A Winter Solstice Fairy Potion This recipe is my take on mulled apple cider, perfect for the Winter Solstice and used to attract Winter fairies. But be warned! Not all winter fairies are kind. NO fairy is predictable! Learn how to protect yourself from malevolent fairies here. Winter Solstice Fairy Potion Ingredients: One Cinnamon Stick 3 Cups All-Natural Apple Juice Allspice 1 tbsp 1 cup All-Natural Orange Juice 1 teaspoon raw honey 1/2 cup Brandy 1 tsp jasmine Directions for the Winter fairy potion: Tie the loose allspice, jasmine, and cinnamon into a piece of cheesecloth or a coffee filter, and drop in a large saucepan along with all the other ingredients (except for the brandy). Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to simmer. Cover and let steep on simmer for about 15 minutes. Take out the spice bag, and stir in the brandy. Add a teaspoon of honey to each cup for sweetness. Drink with your coven immediately OR by yourself. FYI Makes enough for half a dozen witches. Spring Fairy Potion Spring is the season for flower fairies, pixies, and the like. If you’re heading into nature to search for the fay, drink this herbal tea first: Spring Fairy Potion Ingredients: 1/2 tsp thyme 1 tsp elder flower 1/2 tsp chamomile 1/2 tsp rosebuds 1 tsp honey (for sweetening) Spring Fairy Potion Directions: Steep all herbal ingredients in 8 ounces of hot water for 6 minutes. Remove herbs and add tsp of honey for sweetness. Pray over your cup of tea: “Fairies good and fairies sweet, bless this tea until we meet.” A Midsummer Potion to Dance with Faeries When Midsummer is upon us, the air is heavy and hot; the trees are in bloom. The fairies are dancing and frolicking…just waiting for chosen magical people to join. But as magical people and friends of the fairies, we know that to dance with them with no protection could mean our demise. Legend tells us of many who have gone to dance with the fairies at Midsummer and never return. If you are a strong individual and pure of heart, or if you are a fairy witch, you must spiritually cleanse and protect yourself FIRST before dancing with the fay. Herbal Berry Smoothie: A Midsummer Fairy Potion Ingredients Fresh Local Produce – 1 cup berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) Organic Skim OR Almond Milk – 1 cup Banana – 1/2 Dried Vervain – 1/4 tsp Dried Rosehips – 1/2 tsp Fresh Peppermint Leaves – 3 Four Ice Cubes Directions: Add all ingredients (except for the peppermint) to a blender. Blend well until mixture is smooth. Pour blended fairy potion into a glass cup, add the three peppermint leaves to the top and gently stir into the smoothie. Enjoy before your Midsummer ritual and before taking to the fields to dance with the faeries. Note: choose fresh locally grown berries or fruit. During the summer and in my area, we usually find blueberries or blackberries that are organic and locally grown. The fairies will be more attracted to someone who has consumed plants native to their homeland. The reason this fairy potion is chilled is to keep you hydrated before your romp with the fay. Trust me…you’ll need it. A Samhain Fairy Potion The last harvest festival and the end of the Summer is called Samhain (society calls it Halloween). The fairies are busy on Samhain, but be warned! Their disposition turns darker. Samhain is the day when the veil between the our world and the spirit world is thin. Drink this Samhain fairy potion for protection and also to increase psychic abilities. This is the perfect day to practice divination (tarot, runes, etc.) Be sure to cleanse your space and tools first, then cast a circle. A Samhain Fairy Potion Ingredients: 1/2 tsp Mugwort (light sedative and produces prophetic dreams OR astral travel) 1 tsp Thyme 1/2 tsp red hibiscus 1 tsp honey 8 ounces hot water Samhain Potion Directions: Make this tea with a tea ball or a loose leaf tea infuser. Pour hot water over it and the honey, and enjoy! Don’t forget to ground, center, and shield yourself before drinking this fairy potion and before conversing with the fay ESPECIALLY on Samhain! Ground again after fairy work. THIS WEBSITE IS NOT INTENDED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING MEDICAL ADVICE. 5 HEX BREAKING Baths: How to Break a Curse with a Ritual Bath https://otherworldlyoracle.com/curse-breaking-baths/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=curse-breaking-baths https://otherworldlyoracle.com/curse-breaking-baths/#comments Mon, 09 Dec 2019 14:59:31 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4128 There are many ways a hex or curse can affect your life. (Learn the signs you’re cursed or hexed here.) But the most important thing is to break the hex or curse that’s been placed on you. You don’t need a conjure-woman or witch to do this for you. You can do it yourself with a powerful hex-breaking ritual bath. We teach you how to take 4 of our favorite baths to break a curse here. 1. Holy Trinity Bath to Break a Curse My favorite and one I’ve used a few times is what I call the Holy Trinity bath. It’s called the Holy Trinity because of three specific herbs that have powerful hex-breaking properties: basil, rue, and rosemary. (WARNING: Rue can cause rashes for certain people – do a skin check FIRST before bathing in RUE). All three herbs are purifiers and are historically linked to the Divine. In American folk magic, these three herbs are used in combination to uncross a person. When infused in a bath, with a few candles lit, and heartfelt prayer, they break curses. Depending on your religious or spiritual beliefs, you can say whatever you feel is necessary. A powerful hex-breaking Bible verse is Psalms 37:1-2 “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.” 2. Break a Curse with a Lemon & Coffee Bath Sound strange to add coffee and lemon to a bath? I assure it’s not! A hex breaking bath with coffee and lemon is powerfully effective when repeated over the course of 7 full days. Add a cup of lemon juice and a cup of coffee to the bath and soak for 15 minutes or more, praying and visualizing white light breaking through curses or hexes on you. Lemon is known as a universal purifier and coffee is cleansing plus speeds up any ritual process in the spiritual realms. 3. Hex-Breaking Salt Baths Salt is traditionally known to cleanse energetic debris, absorb negativity, and protect from evil forces. When sprinkled into a ritual bath, it works to cleanse the aura, break curses, and protect from future negative intrusions. Epsom salts are specifically great for hex breaking baths and are purchased for fairly cheap at the grocery store or pharmacy. Plus it does wonders physically for your skin! 4. Modern Hex-Breaking Ritual Bath Essential oils have become quite popular these days and for good reason. If you have these oils on-hand, by all means, use them! Be sure to dilute with a carrier oil BEFORE adding any oils to a curse-breaking bath. Dilute 6 drops of essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil. Learn more about the safety of essential oils here. A few essential oils to use in your hex-breaking bath include: lavender (which has a soothing, purifying effect) and eucalyptus. Place crystals with cleansing properties around the bathtub for extra oomph: black tourmaline absorbs negative energies, obsidian has a grounding effect and selenite calls in white light. 5. 7 Waves Ocean Curse-Breaking Ritual If you live near the ocean or are visiting the ocean soon, this is probably the MOST potent hex-breaking bath you’ll ever take. Go to the ocean before sunrise. As the sun rises, go out into the water. Let seven waves crash over your head. Feel the cleansing, curse-breaking power of the ocean. The salt. The water. It frees us of our bonds. Leave the ocean and your worries and negative energy behind you. Essential Parts to a Ritual Curse-Breaking Bath: MUST READ! A curse breaking bath consists of essential parts: the bath itself with hex breaking ingredients PLUS your heart and mind. While bathing, visualize white light and love radiating through you and breaking curses clinging to your aura. Bathe from head to foot, pouring the water over the crown of your head to rinse. You should also be PRAYING to whatever divine energy you believe in for relief. At the end of a curse breaking bath, stand up and towel dry from head to foot in a downwards motion. This pushes negative energy off instead of drawing it towards you. Then repeat for 3 or 7 days for severe hexes. Curse Breaking Bath TIP: make sure you clean your tub thoroughly after performing a hex breaking bath! You don’t want that energy lingering for someone else to pick it up! Magical Home Protection Powders & Threshold Folk Magic https://otherworldlyoracle.com/protection-powders-threshold-magick/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=protection-powders-threshold-magick https://otherworldlyoracle.com/protection-powders-threshold-magick/#comments Fri, 06 Dec 2019 19:28:33 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=4105 A regular part of my spiritual protection ritual is spreading powders over my thresholds. This is a part of what I call “sealing” my household from negative forces. I make my own home protection powders and their ingredients vary from month to month depending on what I have on-hand. Let’s learn about threshold magick and why home protection powders are so important. PLUS I’ll teach you how to make your own! First, Why Are Thresholds So Magical? A threshold is a doorframe or windowsill to your home. The weird thing about them is, when you think about it, they are neither inside nor outside…they are sort of in-between. And being that they are in-between here and there, this means they are “liminal”. Liminal spaces are magical because they bridge the gap between two worlds – two dimensions, if you will. Liminal “in-between” spaces in nature are the edge of a forest, a shoreline, a cliff. Folklore repeatedly tells us how magical these in-between places are. Places where spirits gather and mystical things happen. The same goes for the thresholds of one’s home – it’s neither here nor there. And spirits and energy can get “stuck” in liminal spaces. In Scott Cunningham’s book The Magical Household, he discusses the importance of thresholds. He prompts the reader to open their front door half-way (during twilight hours) and peer through it. That you just may see something otherworldly, somehow being produced by the liminal space of the threshold. Cunningham also challenges us to step into the threshold and feel what it’s like to be neither inside nor outside. Give it a try! Carry Her Over the Threshold! It’s been a superstition for many years that spirits linger on the thresholds of homes and businesses. This is why there are traditions around the threshold. One such tradition is when a newlywed couple step into their new home for the first time – the groom is supposed to carry the bride over the threshold. Why? Because new brides were susceptible to spirit energy and spirits lingered in the doorways! On another note, energy gets stuck in places like corners and shut doors, so it makes sense that negative energy can build up in the thresholds of closed doors and windows. Home Protection Powders for Thresholds I’ve been using my own home protection powders for years and they work wonders to not only seal your house from negative forces but to also absorb any negative forces lingering in the thresholds. Don’t go out and spend money on making your home protection powder. Use what you have on-hand. Your ancestors did! Home Protection Powder: Red Brick Dust A staple home protection powder in American folk magick traditions to ward off enemies and bring prosperity is red brick dust. You can make your own – learn how to make red brick dust here. If you can’t make your own, you can purchase red brick dust online. BUT I really recommend making your own home protection powders (they’re that much more powerful when you put your energy into them!) I recently ran out of my red brick dust, and I’m sad because it is POWERFUL stuff! Salt as Home Protection Powder This is one ingredient that most everyone should have in their house. SALT. If all you have on-hand is a container of salt, then use it. Salt is known for its magical effects of purification and protection and has been for centuries. Witches’ black salt and even pink salt work well, too! Cascarilla and Crabshell Powders Also used often in American folk magic traditions is cascarilla powder. Cascarilla powder is made of ground dried eggshells. It has natural protective qualities and therefore has been used by Conjurers and Hoodoo practitioners for hundreds of years in protection spells and charms. Crabshell powder can also be used as a home protection powder and spread over the thresholds. Next time you use a lot of eggs or eat crabs, save the shells. Wash and dry them. Then grind them to a fine powder and save them for protective sealing. My Personal Home Protection Powder Recipe for Thresholds What you’ll need: Rosemary Rue Basil Bay Thorns cut from the bush (rose, honey locust, cactus, bougainvillea, etc.) Salt Mortar and pestle What to do: Blend all of your ingredients together in a mortar and pestle. If you don’t have all of these ingredients or you grow your own herbs, substitute with what ingredients you have that carry a protective quality. While you’re blending, pray over the ingredients. Tell them what their job is. Then spread the home protection powder across your thresholds, starting at the front door, moving clockwise around the house, then ending at the front door. When you spread your powder, spread it from left to right and pray over it each time. Once you’ve ended back at your front door, say something like, “by the power of my ancestors, gods and guides, this home is sealed from negative forces and all enemies. So be it.” A Funny TRUE Story Just a funny TRUE story about protection powders and doorways. Once we had a pest control man visit the house for service (don’t worry we do the all-natural way!) and he was very observant of everything outside and inside the home. He pointed some powder out to me on the threshold of our front door and said, “looks like you’ve spread some diatomaceous earth on your front door here, Ma’am. Is that to keep the pillbugs out the house?” In fact, it was a home protection powder I had just laid at the last Full Moon. I replied, “sure is!”

12 Signs of Negative Energy in a House or Workplace + What to Do! https://otherworldlyoracle.com/signs-of-negative-energy-in-a-house/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=signs-of-negative-energy-in-a-house https://otherworldlyoracle.com/signs-of-negative-energy-in-a-house/#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2019 15:12:21 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3833 There are so many reasons negative energy builds up in a house or in a place of business. Negative emotions, arguments, illness, and even stagnant air can produce negative vibrations that linger. And strangely enough, the causes of negative energy are also sometimes the signs! So how do you tell if negative energy is building? Here are 12 signs of negative energy in a house or workplace AND how to cleanse it. Signs of Negative Energy Build-up 1. Mood Swings When you go home or to your workplace, do you automatically find yourself in a bad mood? Maybe you were in a good mood until you stepped in the door. Mood swings or moods that come out of nowhere is the number one sign of negative energy in a house or workplace. 2. Financial Troubles Lately it seems your bank accounts have been suffering, as well as your family’s prosperity. If you’re having money troubles, it’s possible this is a sign of negative energy in a house or at your job. Negative energy tends to block the flow of other energies – and money IS energy so it may be blocked by the negative. 3. Random Illness Are people in your house getting sick inexplicably and more often lately? Random illnesses and infections are a sign of negative energy in a house or workplace. Side note: be sure to rule out mundane reasons for illness/infection in a house like changing your air filter, making sure there’s no mold in the house, dusting/cleaning regularly, etc. 4. Nightmares One of the first signs of negative energy in a house is nightmares, in my personal opinion. Whenever I start having nightmares regularly, I know I’m past my date to cleanse my home. Bad dreams and nightmares are often caused by a build-up of negative energy in one’s house. 5. Negative Thoughts Similar to experiencing mood swings for no known reason, negative thoughts out of thin air is also a sign of negative energy build-up. Negative vibrations affects humans holistically (meaning on every level: body, mind, soul). 6. Fatigue Your body will be weighed down by negative energy around you and cause you to feel tired. This is a sign that a lot of negative energy has taken up space in your house or workplace, particularly if others are always tired too. 7. Arguments Just can’t seem to get along with your family members or roommates lately? Arguments and spats are a sign of negative energy BUT also cause the negative energy in a house or place. It’s a negative feedback loop! One begets the other and so on. 8. Broken Glass and Objects Clumsiness from more than one person in a house may indicate a build-up of negative vibrations. Has glass been broken more than once? Are you constantly dropping things? Negative energy weighs on our auras and can cause us to feel scattered and imbalanced thereby causing physical clumsiness. 9. Shadows Shadows in your peripheral vision or in places they aren’t normally seen is a BIG sign of negative energy building up in your house or workplace. I don’t just mean shadows, I mean darting shadows or looming darkness. This could be the negative energy itself OR a negative entity that’s been attracted to the negative vibrations. 10. Lost Items Similar to breaking things and being clumsy, losing items like your keys, jewelry, money, etc. indicates you’re dealing with negative energy that’s leaving your brain scattered. 11. Stress and Anxiety You’re normally an easy-going, happy individual. But lately you’re stressed out for no particular reason. Maybe you’re even dealing with panic attacks or constant worrying. These are signs of negative energy getting stuck in a place. It’s effecting your ability to cope with daily stressors. (Here’s how to use witchcraft to relieve anxiety.) 12. Miscommunications It doesn’t matter what you say or how you say it, your family member is mad at you. All the time lately. Not being able to articulate your emotions or thoughts clearly PLUS your family members not understanding your intentions is a sign of negative energy in the house. What To Do About Negative Energy In a House or Workplace So now you understand why these stressful things have been happening – it’s negative energy! But what do you do to get rid of the negative energy building up at home or at work? There’s a few effective ways to remove negative energy – all methods of spiritual cleansing. 1. Smudging and Cleansing Smudging is probably the most effective way to remove negative energy and eradicate negative spirits from a home. Before you smudge, you MUST open the windows or a door to allow the negative energy to escape. You don’t have to use white sage – rosemary is just as effective. Don’t know how to smudge? Click here to learn more! If you can’t smudge, try sprinkling with holy water, sweeping with a besom, spraying with smudge spray, or playing Tibetan singing bowls. 2. Fresh Air and Sunlight In addition to smudging, open a window. Let the sunlight and fresh air in! Dark, stagnant places are breeding grounds for negative energy. 3. Raise the Vibrations Since you understand that negative energy caused these issues, you have to be the one to change it. Raise the vibrations in your house or workplace by being a positive role model for others. Instead of arguing or getting irritated, try to understand what the other person is saying. Add high-vibration and soothing crystals to the space like selenite, rose quartz, sodalite and lapis lazuli. 4. Music and Mood Play soothing or uplifting music at home or at work to help lift the mood and vibrations. Diffusing essential oils like eucalyptus, mint, orange, lemongrass and lavender help to invite positive energy into a space. 5. Clean and De-clutter If it’s been awhile since your house or office has had a thorough cleaning, now’s the time. Dirt, debris and clutter all serve as ways to trap negative energy. Kitchen Witchcraft: How to Turn Any Recipe Magical https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witchcraft-recipes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kitchen-witchcraft-recipes https://otherworldlyoracle.com/kitchen-witchcraft-recipes/#respond Tue, 15 Oct 2019 17:29:52 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3816 When I first began practicing kitchen witchcraft, I was confused on how to incorporate magick into my cooking and baking. Do I write my own recipes? Add things to recipes I already use? How do I turn a recipe into a magical spell or charm for a certain intention? It took me some time, but I figured out how to turn any recipe magical. Now I’ll share it with you! 1. Choose a Favorite Recipe I have certain recipes that I use on a regular basis. Either it’s because they’re quick and easy OR they’re just plain delicious and family-favored. Choose ONE of your favorite recipes to turn magical. OR for an added ancestral boost of power – select a recipe from heirloom cookbooks. 2. Set Your Intention For every magical working there must be an intention. A goal. The same goes for kitchen witchcraft. After you’ve chosen your recipe, identify your intention. Is it for your family’s health? Peace in the household? Protection? Monetary prosperity? Keep in mind, with kitchen witchcraft and magical meals, you can choose multiple intentions! This is one of the few areas of the craft where you can add intentions to meals like ingredients! 3. Look at the Ingredients The first thing I do when turning a recipe from the mundane into kitchen witchcraft is to look at the ingredients. Is there meat? Dairy? Vegetables? Fruits? Herbs and spices? Every ingredient has a magical property or folklore attached to it. If you don’t know any, look it up! Literally googling “sugar’s magical properties” gives hundreds of results. Now, will every single ingredient you use be specifically attuned to your magical intention? Probably not. But you can work around this. 4. Assign a Magical Job for Each Ingredient After you’ve looked up the properties and/or lore for each ingredient in your kitchen witchcraft recipe, it’s time to assign each ingredients a magical duty, so to speak. This means, if I’m making lemon thyme green beans for protection, for example, I would assign magical duties like this: Kitchen Witchcraft: Lemon Thyme Green Beans for Protection Green beans: protection from evil spirits Lemon zest: cleansing of negative energies from the aura Butter: maternal ancestors’ protection Thyme: protection from disease Salt: purification and protection from negative entities 5. Make the Magical Recipe You’ve figured out what you’re making and how the ingredients will benefit your magical intention, now there’s nothing left to do except make it! As you cook your magical meal or bake your magical dessert, with each ingredient you add, talk to them and tell them what their magical duties are. For example, “I melt this butter and call on my maternal ancestors to protect my house and family.” “I add this thyme and summon its ability to protect my family from disease and illness.” Etc. More Tips on Cooking Magically In addition to adding the ingredients and assigning them magical duties, you should also be visualizing your intention as if it already happened while cooking or baking your dish. Stir clockwise to grow something or for a positive change, stir counter-clockwise to banish something from your life. Be mindful of emotions and energies that go into your meals. Those energies may transfer to your family or whomever else you feed. Busy Mom Witch: How to Fit Magick Into Mommy-hood in 11 Ways https://otherworldlyoracle.com/busy-mom-witch/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=busy-mom-witch https://otherworldlyoracle.com/busy-mom-witch/#comments Sun, 08 Sep 2019 19:38:42 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3416 I’m a mom of two. And I don’t know about you but it keeps me busy from sun up to sun down. Finding time to practice my craft let alone take a shower seems like a funny joke at times. Yet over the years, I’ve learned how to integrate my witchcraft practice and spirituality with my busy daily routines. Here’s 11 ways to be a busy mom witch AND keep your sanity balancing life, work and your craft. The Key to Being a Balanced Busy Mom Witch The key to being a balanced, busy mom witch is to fit small rituals and magical habits into your daily mundane routine. THEN when you have extra time (the gods allowing) on the weekends, nights, and holidays, fit your more elaborate rituals in. 1. Transportation Magick Most busy mom witches are driving their kids around from place to place: to school, sports, clubs, friends’ houses, doctor’s appointments, etc. We are literally our children’s chauffeurs on a daily basis. In the midst of all the driving, instead of loathing the commute, mix a little magick into your journeys! Play your favorite witchy music, look for divine messages on license plates or in the clouds, and talk to your guides and ancestors once the kids have left the vehicle. 2. Morning Blessings In the morning, bless your coffee, tea, and breakfast by drawing sigils or symbols over them. Pray to your goddess while getting ready in the morning (you can easily work praying into your showering and while getting dressed). If you are an early riser, try waking up earlier than the family to spend a few moments at your altar. Give offerings, pray, chant, or meditate while the house is still quiet! 3. Divination on the Fly Whether you’re in the car line picking up the kids or running down a grocery aisle, divination on the fly is a great way to add magick to any moment and connect with the divine. Read nature signs while outside, practice listening to others’ conversations to divine a message, OR try a Rune or Tarot app on your mobile phone. You could pick a card or rune anywhere and at any time! 4. Lunch Break for the Busy Mom Witch If you’re a working mom and get a lunch break, take advantage of the time you have. Instead of eating inside, take your lunch outside and enjoy the fresh air and connect with nature. Or eat your lunch then go for a quick walk. If you can’t get outside, sit quietly and listen to a witchy podcast or meditation through your phone/earbuds. If you have your kids at home with you, take them for a nature walk too! 5. Add Magick to Your Chores As a busy mom witch, the chores never seem to end. Some days I feel myself drowning in laundry, other days I want to throw the dishes away in the trash. Instead of loathing or avoiding our chores, why not work some magick into them? For example, bless your laundry room and dedicate it to a domestic goddess. Add different herbal infusions to your wash for different intentions. Scry with soap bubbles while doing the dishes. Sweep the house and sweep away negative energy. 6. Cooking Magical Meals Cooking is one of those things we have to do as busy mom witches. If you’re a kitchen witch, you may already work magick into your meals. But if you’re not, consider learning how to add intention into your meals, work with culinary herbs, make teas and more! All easy ways to be a busy mom and a witch simultaneously – practice while cooking and cleaning. 7. Checking the Mail You wouldn’t think checking the mail or taking out the trash could be magical, but I’m here to confess that it is! Any time I walk outside, I take in the world around my driveway and home. I look for nature signs and omens, i.e. feathers on the ground, birds in the trees or flying overhead, new plants or flowers, etc. While you check your mail, say hello to Mother Nature. A simple yet serene moment in a busy mom’s day. 8. Less Screen Time While TV and scanning our phones may seem relaxing, in reality we are cheating ourselves of key spiritual and mental time. I’ve made an effort to lessen my screen time at night by replacing it with thirty minutes or more of reading. Read a witchy fiction or non-fiction after the kids are asleep instead of scanning through FaceBook or watching Netflix. 9. Locking Up the House Every busy mom has a sundown routine. You know what I mean – you walk around the house and close the blinds, turn on lamps, and lock the doors for the night. Have you ever thought of adding a little witchcraft to that routine? While locking my doors at night, I also magically lock them by drawing a protective rune with my finger over them. I also take a quick moment to pray to my ancestors and goddess for protection and blessing over my house. 10. Cherish the Holidays and Moments Even though it gets busy on the holidays, most of us have at least a few moments of relaxation and family quality time. Cherish these moments – create your own witchy family holiday traditions to continue each year. Even if it’s not a holiday, breathe and be thankful for the small moments with your children and loved ones. Love is what keeps a witch’s power flowing. 11. Get the Kids Involved Trying to figure out how you can work magick and keep the kids entertained? Get your kids involved! There are so many fun crafts and activities that kids would enjoy that would also support your witchcraft practice. Craft suncatchers, sew dollbabies/poppets, bake fairy cakes, etc. My daughter enjoys looking at my oracle card collection, so when I want to do a quick reading I let her admire the artwork. There are many […]

Rosemary Magical Properties & 8 Ways to Use It In Witchcraft https://otherworldlyoracle.com/rosemary-magical-properties/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rosemary-magical-properties https://otherworldlyoracle.com/rosemary-magical-properties/#comments Tue, 30 Jul 2019 14:12:23 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3201 I don’t think there’s another herb I love or use more than rosemary. It’s one of those incredibly versatile herbs that a witch can almost use for anything! If you grow and use just one herb, make it rosemary. Here I’ll explain rosemary magical properties and ways to use rosemary in your witchcraft (though there’s so many I don’t think I’d ever be able to list them all!) Rosemary Magical Properties Rosemary’s official name is Rosemarinus officinalis. It’s a perennial bush that grows well in full sun and regular watering. It’s connected to the Sun and to the element Fire. Rosemary’s magical properties are multiple and ALL powerful. If you have a need or intention, rosemary will cover it. It’s all-purpose. But here’s a quick breakdown of rosemary magical properties: purification, all-heal, protection, love, lust, memory and mental clarity, aids sleep, and attracts elves. 1. Rosemary Smudging One rosemary spell I always use involves a gigantic smudge bundle of it! I harvest rosemary from my garden, then bundle it up and burn it. I burn rosemary instead of buying white sage. It’s easily accessible and free if you grow it yourself. Rosemary smudging is just as effective as white sage smudging, PLUS is said to remove negative vibrations associated with poor health and illness. Not to mention it smells amazing! 2. Rosemary Baths As long as you don’t have an allergy to rosemary, it’s perfect in ritual baths. It purifies the aura, promotes healing of all kinds, and clears the mind of negative energetic debris. I’ve also used rosemary in conjunction with other holy herbs for uncrossing baths. It is powerful in removing jinxes, bad juju and the evil eye. 3. Rosemary in Magical Oils Another way to use rosemary’s magical properties is to infuse it in your candle dressing oils. It lends its purifying, healing energy to any candle spell. You can also use these same oils to anoint your tools OR anoint your chakras during rituals or meditations. Warm some olive oil on the stove and infuse it with fresh rosemary. Let it cool then massage into your scalp to stimulate hair growth. 4. Cook with Rosemary Rosemary’s magical properties carry over into your meals too! I particularly love using rosemary with poultry dishes and in stews and sauces. It also tastes delicious sprinkled over potatoes and roasted in the oven! Rosemary helps the whole family to be in harmony and protects each family member. 5. Magical Rosemary Teas Another lovely way to incorporate rosemary into your magick is to brew it in teas. It is a strong flavor, so use it sparingly. Perfect for healing, love, and purification teas. 6. Rosemary Crowns Ever heard of flower crowns for Beltane or Midsummer? You can harvest and make rosemary crowns any time, too! Stimulates memory, clears the mind, and smells divine. 7. Asperging with Rosemary Asperging means to sprinkle or bless your home, etc. with holy or blessed water. It’s extra effective when you use a plant like rosemary to help sprinkle the water around. Cut a branch or multiple sprigs of rosemary from the bush, then dip into holy water. Bless your home, tools and self to cleanse and consecrate. Rosemary’s cleansing powers amplify the holy water. 8. Rosemary Besom Similar to using rosemary to make crowns, rosemary can be cut and made into a small, sacred besom (broom). Use this rosemary besom to cleanse your sacred space (altar, home, etc.). You can also cleanse yourself by sweeping from your head to your feet with the rosemary besom. Rosemary Spells Use your imagination and incorporate rosemary and its magical properties into your rituals and spells. There’s SO many ways to use rosemary and dozens of rosemary spells to cast for nearly any magical intention. Sprinkle it around your candle or roll your candle in it. Add rosemary to your magical powders. Offer it to your gods and ancestors. Sniff it before a test to aid memory. Bring it into divination sessions to increase psychic abilities and improve clarity.

Oils for Candle Magic: Money Oil Recipe, Cleansing Oil and Tips https://otherworldlyoracle.com/candle-oils/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=candle-oils https://otherworldlyoracle.com/candle-oils/#comments Tue, 23 Jul 2019 03:08:33 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3116 One of my favorite forms of magic is candle magic. There’s much more to candle magic than simply lighting a candle and saying a prayer. For those who want to take it to the next level, try making your own oils for candle magic. These oils are easy and cheap to make and amplify your candle spells three-fold! First, What Are Oils for Candle Magic? Oils for candle magic are herb-infused oils used to “dress” candles for spells. To dress a candle means to roll or rub the oil over the candle to increase the desired effect. This is a popular method in various folk magic and witchcraft traditions. DIY Candle Dressing Oils: What You’ll Need It’s super easy and cheap to make your own oils for andle magic. In fact, you probably already have ALL of the ingredients right in your kitchen! The first thing you need is a base oil. This could be olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, or if you’re really in a pinch vegetable or corn oil. Next, you’ll need DRIED herbs and spices to infuse into the oil. Some common spices in your kitchen cabinet for candle oils include: cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, pepper, cayenne, parsley, oregano, etc. You’ll also need a glass jar with an air-tight lid and, if you want your oils to last longer, some vitamin E oil to preserve. DIY Money Oil Recipe for Candle Spells What You’ll Need: glass jar with air-tight lid olive oil (or any other base oil you have on-hand) dried basil dried mint cinnamon (powder or chips) vitamin e oil (to preserve) How to Make the Money Oil Recipe: Fill the air-tight jar with equal parts basil, mint, and cinnamon three quarters of the way full. Pour olive oil over the herbs until the jar is almost filled to the top with oil. Add a few drops of vitamin E oil (a preservative). Close the jar and shake it gently. Put it in a dark, cool, dry place. Every day for two weeks shake the jar. After two weeks, strain the herbs and powders out of the oil. Bottle/jar it back up and label it “Money Oil”. Anoint candles, your wallet, money, tools, and anything else to draw money to you! DIY Cleansing Oil for Candle Magic and MORE Cleansing oils are important for candle magic to remove negativity from a household or from an individual. You’ll follow the same routine as the money oil recipe above, but the ingredients should be different. If you substitute for the ingredients, choose herbs with purification, exorcism, or banishing properties. What You’ll Need: glass jar with air-tight lid olive oil (or any other carrier oil you have on-hand) dried rosemary dried culinary sage dried rue (test a bit against your skin to see if you’re allergic – rue makes some people break out. If you are allergic to rue, wear gloves when handling OR substitute with a different herb) vitamin E oil (to preserve) How to Make the Cleansing Oil Recipe for Candle Magic: Fill the air-tight jar with equal parts rosemary, sage and rue halfway to the top. Bottle/jar it back up and label it “Cleansing Oil”. Anoint candles, thresholds and windows, your car, etc. to cleanse of negativity. How to Use Your DIY Oils for Candle Magic There are a few ways to use your DIY money oil for candle magic: Roll your candle in the oil Dip the candle in the oil Anoint the candle with the oil using your hands Drip the oil on the candle/candle-top Poke holes in top of candle and drip oil inside Using Oils for Candle Magic: A Few Tips There’s different ways to dress your candles with your DIY oils for spells and rituals. But here’s a tip no one told me until much later in my craft: if you’re anointing a candle to rid yourself of something (i.e. cleansing, banishing, etc.) rub the oil from top to bottom or away from you. If you’re drawing something towards you (i.e. money, love, etc.), rub the oil from bottom to top towards you. Tales of American Witches: The Witch & Origin of the Baker’s Dozen https://otherworldlyoracle.com/origin-bakers-dozen-witch/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=origin-bakers-dozen-witch https://otherworldlyoracle.com/origin-bakers-dozen-witch/#comments Fri, 19 Jul 2019 19:24:43 +0000 https://otherworldlyoracle.com/?p=3130 In this series of articles, we present our favorite and most intriguing tales of American witches in hopes to inspire you, the reader. Some will be called witches, some shamans, and others midwives, grannies, and healers, but all are an integral part of American history and folklore and thus should be appreciated. This is the intriguing story of the origin of the baker’s dozen and how a witch was once a part of the American tale. A Brief Intro on American Witches The belief in witches dates back thousands of years and is worldwide. Here in the United States, we’ve forgotten our beginnings, and just how steeped in folklore our country really is. Folklore brought from other countries, but also folklore that originates here and is unique to this country alone. The indigenous peoples’ legends mixed with the immigrants from Europe and Africa. Some of my favorite stories of witches come from the United States—witches along the shorelines of New England, high in the Appalachian Mountains, witches living among us. The Tale & Origin of the Baker’s Dozen The story (and origin) of the Baker’s Dozen was originally written in James Kirke Paulding’s The Book of St. Nicholas in the year 1836. And it went something like this… It Began in New Amsterdam In the Colonial United States, a part of Manhattan (NY City) was called New Amsterdam. In this early Dutch American settlement was a baker known as Boss Boomptie or Little Baker Boomptie. This was a man who took pride in his work, but who was also trying to provide for his family in hard times. Boss Boomptie baked bread, cookies, and all manner of baked goods and sold to the public. But Boss Boomptie wasn’t necessarily a generous, kind man and someone thought he needed to be taught an important lesson. The Origin of the Baker’s Dozen 13 One New Years’ Night, when Boss Boomptie was tying one on with his family and friends, there was a knock on the bakery door. His shop was closed for the holidays, but he went to answer it – he could always use the business. At the door was a haggard old woman of which Boomptie thought must’ve been a witch. She was hunched over, had a crooked nose, and leaned on a cane. She asked for a dozen Saint Nicholas cookies. He gave her twelve, and she asked him again for a dozen. He said to her, “this is a dozen. There are twelve cookies here.” The witch shook her head and informed the baker a dozen cookies meant thirteen. The other bakeries gave their customers an extra cookie to the dozen. A Cursed Bakery Boomptie was appalled at the woman’s remarks and sent her on her way, claiming he had to feed his family too and how dare she ask for an extra cookie. As one might expect, the baker’s luck changed the following day. Unknown assailants stole Boomptie’s goods. His bread would never rise or rose so much that it literally floated out the chimney. He suspected he had been cursed. The old witch appeared again at his door and asked for a dozen cookies. Boomptie cursed the woman and sent her on her way. Well, his luck grew worse. None of his goods baked right and his customers believed his shop was cursed. No one came to buy Boomptie’s goods. Saint Nicholas Appears At this point, the baker had no option but to pray. He prayed to Saint Nicholas, saint of merchants, and asked for the witch’s evil curse to be lifted. He decided to try to bake another batch of Saint Nicholas cookies, and when he did…they came out of the oven perfectly! He sat them in the window of the shop, and as he looked up, there stood Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas reminded the baker to give to those in need, just as God gives to us. Then came another knock on the door later that night. It was the same old woman, the witch. She asked Boomptie for a dozen cookies. He happily gave her thirteen and she claimed the curse lifted. From then on, the baker always included an extra cookie to the dozen. This was the tale of the first Baker’s Dozen. A Witch Responsible for the Baker’s Dozen or Saint Nicholas? It’s interesting how Saint Nicholas knows exactly what happened between the baker and the witch…how the baker had turned the woman away when she requested an extra cookie. While they say Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus today) knows if you’ve been bad or good, I wonder whether the witch was in cahoots with Saint Nicholas. Or perhaps was the witch in the origin of the baker’s dozen a shifted form of Saint Nicholas himself? Witches often teach valuable lessons… Witches appear in many tales from the past, often having a negative or antagonistic presence; however, they almost always represent a turn of events that teaches the main character an important lesson. In the story of the origin of the baker’s dozen, the baker needed to learn how to be generous and give to those in need. He had a greedy spirit, one that Saint Nicholas recognized and guided him to be a better person. If it wasn’t for the witch’s request and “curse”, the baker might not have ever learned the valuable lesson he did.
