The Empath Series: 10 Helpful Empath Books and Resources

Welcome back to another installment of the Empath Series! Last month I talked about the different ways to maintain your energetic field which included earthing, flushing, and grounding. This month is the month a lot of folks have been waiting for because this article is the empath’s guide to the best empath books and resources from beginner to adept.

What is an Empath?

What does it mean to be an empath? It encompasses more than just being empathetic towards others who might be struggling. An empath is someone who takes on the energy of others – be that their emotions or physical sensations. As you might guess, this also means that some empaths can literally feel the pain of others – illness, injury, sorrow, anger, all of it. To be an empath is not an easy life. It’s not a trend or something to claim for fun. If you’re truly an empath, you know how difficult it is to filter through all of the energy coming at you on a daily basis. So what should an empath do to stay grounded, shielded, and essentially keep themselves healthy?

Taking Care of Yourself as an Empath

In past installments of our Empath Series, Allorah defines the different types of empathic abilities. It’s important to figure out which one you are in order to understand your abilities better. In that same post, she also explains how to properly shield yourself to keep from being overwhelmed with too much energy or negative energy. In another post, Allorah describes the importance of earthing, flushing and grounding as an empath. And how to do it.

Have you ever heard of cord cutting rituals? There was a big trend going around the magical community where folks were using candles and string to “cut energetic cords”. But the original cord cutting ritual was done simply in the ether. Here’s how to cut your cords and why it’s crucial as an empath. As well as energy transmutation.

Where Does an Empath Turn for Resources?

You may be adept at knowing where to find others like yourself as well as resources to help you function in every-day life and society. But, if you’re here, odds are you’re still searching for information. It can be completely overwhelming and ridiculously confusing trying to find solid information for empaths. Nowadays everywhere you turn it seems like everyone is an expert on empathic nature. I am no expert, but I do know a few people, places and books that I as an empath would be lost without. These resources literally saved my life and my sanity.

My TOP 5 Empath Books and Resources

Without further ado, here’s a list of my top empath books and resources for those on the clear feeling spectrum that will help you maintain your sanity, form new friendships, and hone your empathic senses.

1. Empathzonehttps://empathzone.ning.com/

Empathzone was really the first place I learned that there were other people in the world like me. The website provides education and a social space for empaths to learn about, and explore, their spiritual gifts. It’s been around for over a decade and is loaded with great information, discussion boards, live chat, and even games to play using your newly-revealed sensitivities. The website is owned by Sandra Martinez who’s written several books on empathy and are offered for free at Empathzone.

2. Lonerwolfhttps://lonerwolf.com/empath/

Lonerwolf is a website run by Aletheia Luna and Mateo Sol, a partnership of twin flames. While I don’t always agree 100% with their content because I’m not of the new age belief system, I resonate with their empath advice. They have several quizzes you can take, a checklist of signs to alert you to your empathic nature and talk about empathy in general. They also offer a week long empath course, as well as an e-book!

3. Elise Lebeau, Ph.D. – https://www.elislebeau.com

Elise Lebeau, aka The Left Brain Intuitive, is a professional empath. Her website is full of goodies from further resources, links to Facebook groups, empath books, readings, a blog and more! Elise offers a free Empath Survival Training course that covers different aspects of socialization for the empath, including crowd and relationship navigation. Elise wrote her thesis on Empath Experience which earned her a Ph.D. in Metaphysics from the American Institute of Holistic Theology.

4. Empath Basics by Sandra Martinez, MS

Empath Basics is the first empath book I ever read, and it’s by far my most highly recommended text for anyone who believes they’re an empath. This empath book is downloadable on both Amazon and Empathzone for free! This guide goes through definitions, grounding, flushing, chakras, crystals, and even has its own resource section with links! Sandra has a Master’s Degree in Physics and comes to the subject of empaths, not only as an empath herself, but also through the lens of physics. Science will one day catch up to known spiritual truths, and it’s awesome to see people in the scientific community backing up what so many tell us can’t be proven.

5. Awakened Empath by Luna & Sol

On their blog they offer an empath e-book titled Awakened Empath that is chock full of goodness for the beginner and seasoned empaths. It explores boundary setting, how to handle narcissists, self-love practices, and dives deep into parenting empathic children. Luna and Sol’s information is tinted with new age philosophy. If you’re not into new age belief systems, that’s ok, the information is just as valuable without sticking to it by the letter.

6. The Empowered Empath

The Empowered Empath offers something to empaths that most books and sources don’t…self-empowerment. Judy Dyer knows what life is like being an empath and has made her best life in the process. In this helpful resource for empaths, Dyer focuses on how to set you up for a happier, healthier existence including how to set strong boundaries with others, the best career choices for empathic people, and how to raise empathic children. A must-have book.

7. Empath and Psychic Abilities by Kate Nichols

Kate Nichols introduces the beginner to empathic and psychic abilities in this useful book. This book focuses on how to know if you’re empathic or have other psychic abilities and how to tap into them. Some of the most useful parts include chakra meditations, vagus nerve stimulation, and how to astral project.

8. Empath and Narcissist

Sadly, there are many people out there whose energy is unstable and sometimes downright toxic. And often these people tend to cling to empaths for one reason or another. We have to be aware when this happens so we can shield ourselves and care for ourselves properly. In Michelle Luna Bright’s book Empath and Narcissist: How to Defend Yourself and Heal From Narcissistic Abuse, Toxic Codependency, and Manipulation to Become The Master of Your Own … A Survival Guide for Highly Sensitive People, she cuts to the core of this delicate and all-too-frequent issue for empaths. And teaches us how to heal.

9. Energy Healing for Empaths

After so many years of taking on others’ pain, sorrow, and anger, your body and soul can only tolerate so much. Particularly if you’ve spent a large portion of your life unaware of how to shield and heal yourself. Energy Healing for Empaths by Lisa Campion is beyond helpful in learning how to heal our own energy after we’ve taken on too much from the world.

10. The Empathic Oracle

If you enjoy divination or simply speaking to the Universe, The Empathic Oracle is the oracle deck for you. There’s 56 beautifully illustrated cards and a helpful guidebook. And the best thing is the cards are geared towards living an Empathic life. Sometimes we need someone to shine a light on our own energy and tell us what we need to work on as empaths. This oracle deck does just that. Highly recommend!
