Snakes: REAL Pages From a Witch’s Grimoire (Members Only)

This will be the first post showing you all REAL entries from a witch’s personal grimoire. This is for Members Only, as it is personal and legitimate. This particular post is defining a pattern in my witchcraft journey – the symbolism of the snake and the snake as a magical familiar. The entries are copied word for word from my grimoire – only leaving out places and names for privacy.

7/13/15 Black Snakes

My husband saw a large black snake in the back patio area today. It ended up disappearing and then reappearing in my dreams. In this dream I am picking various vines and herbs off of a sacred tree. A string of garlic heads is pulled down by a fellow dreamer. I ask, “should I be worried about the black viper?” Someone says no, then I see something uncoil from a low tree branch. Before I know it, I’m on the ground and a huge black snake is trying to swallow me whole. He bites at my arms. I am terrified and intrigued at the same time. This reminds me of the Ouroboros and dreams I’ve had in the past about snakes.

8/5/15 Snakes, Turtles and Frogs

Yesterday we saw a small black racer snake in the hibiscus bush on our back patio. Then we saw a large softshell turtle in the back yard. A frog jumped into our pool and we rescued it.

The snake and the turtle represent deep things to me. Spirituality, motherhood, and a connection to my primal self. My life force. For a long time, I’ve felt like motherhood and my spiritual path were in opposition to each other. When in fact they are linked and inseparable. Looking back and reflecting on the presence of snake in my life, I see that it ties into my connection with the World Tree and the Ouroboros. I’ve dreamed of snakes since I was a little girl and particularly a lot in college. They were always biting at me, trying to get my attention.

8/22/17 Animal Manifestations: Snake

After texting a friend this AM about my animal manifestation experiences, I randomly thought of the black racer that sometimes visits my garden. She shed her skin last year as a gift to me. I walked out front and she slithered out of the rose bush!

Thoughts on the Snake Familiar

For years, as you can see, I’ve had dreams and encounters with snakes. The dreams were some of the most powerful and spirit-waking dreams I’ve ever had. Including one dream when Thoth, the Egyptian God, showed me a scene where snakes were entering the mouths of people who were lying on the ground all around me. This was actually his way of showing me how the ka (astral double) leaves and re-enters the body – in snake form. This is also a well-kept secret behind the Ouroboros symbol and Yggdrasil (the World Tree). The snake familiar continues to teach me on a regular basis – about healing, about self transformation, about shedding the old to make way for the new. I continue to see black snakes in my garden and welcome their presence. Another black racer gifted her skin to me this year.

Snake skin gifted to me this year.

I was sexually assaulted last year and Matilda, my ball python, was magically sent to me on October 31st a couple days later. I adopted her and she has brought so much great energy into my life. Good changes and huge growth. I knew from the moment I got her she was so helpful to me. I don’t care what anyone says about snakes not having emotions. I feel like hers out loud and clear to me and she helps stay calm and I feel powerful and strong when she’s around. I am so grateful for her and I loved this. Thank you.

Thank you greatly for sharing this very personal post. It is a very interesting read and has taught me things I never knew. Growing up with the images of witches being evil beaten into my head you can guess it a snake is a nasty, evil, scary thing. This is a new light to see them in. Oddly through life I have never really given notice to snakes. As a child I would catch garden snakes and show my mom scaring her. But recently I moved since I have moved three snakes have been in our yard. One even crawled into our fire pit. They have shed and left me their old skins each of them. I am surprised at how all of a sudden it seems there are so many snakes in my own yard and leaving behind shed skins which is a thing I have never seen in person before.
