How To Be A Powerful Witch (Bella Donna Members ONLY)

In this post, I plan to reveal some of my most personal secrets to being a powerful witch. For Bella Donna Members ONLY. What does it mean to be a powerful witch, you might wonder. In my experience, a powerful witch is a wise person who has the ability to tune into the world around them with ease, connect with the Other World to find answers to life’s plaguing questions, and cast spells and rituals that produce REAL results.

Let me tell you a story, first.

Once, a woman came to me and asked me to teach her all I know about witchcraft. She seemed to have a real desire to learn, and so I took her on as a student. But I quickly realized there was one BIG problem with her path as a witch – she was powerless in her personal life. Now, don’t get me wrong, witchcraft is a path built specifically to empower the practitioner. HOWEVER, one has to own his or her own self power to become a powerful witch. Otherwise, your magick will fail time and time again.

To continue the story…

This woman was desperate to learn witchcraft because she thought it would fix her problems. She was suffering in nearly every aspect of her life: physically unhealthy, emotionally unstable, poor self esteem, etc. AND I wanted to help her with every fiber of my being. I tried to help her…but she didn’t truly want my help. She didn’t want to hear what I’m telling you in this post.

True power comes from within – it comes from caring for yourself as a whole being. This means your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Real witches know about the four bodies and care for each one of those bodies thoroughly. This is my first secret to being a powerful witch…

1. Self care is body, mind, and spirit.

Yes, we hear it time and time again – self-care. Care for yourself. Take a long bath. Blah blah blah. BUT self care is much more than fluffy advice regurgitated to us by smiling, bubbly bloggers in pretty floral skirts. Self care is digging deep. Self care is self reflection – shadow work – and then CORRECTING those areas. For example – don’t look at yourself in the mirror and say “I’m fat. I’m sloppy. I’m ugly.” And then do absolutely nothing about it. A spell isn’t going to fix ill health and poor body image. YOU have to fix it. You know what to do to care for yourself – entirely. So do it. No more excuses. You have the power to change your life.

2. Cut the crap.

This ties in with self care but takes it to the next level. What in your life is holding you back from becoming a truly powerful witch? If it isn’t you, then it’s time to cut the crap. What I mean by this is – is there a person abusing you? Using you? Preventing you from becoming the person you want to be? The woman I told you about above not only didn’t care for herself, she allowed a close person in her life to use and abuse her and hold her back from becoming a better person. Sit back and evaluate the people in your life. Are they lifting you up or holding you down? If it’s the latter, it’s time to cut the crap. YOU have the power to cut this person out of your life if they aren’t willing to be a positive influence. You’re not a victim. Don’t let them make you believe that, either…which leads me to my next secret…

3. The Victim Complex

I believe there’s a pandemic sickening our society – it’s called the victim complex. Everywhere we look we see it – people who think they’re entitled to this or that. People who are offended by literally everything they read or see. Even people who blame all the other people in their lives for their own damn problems. The victim complex. Not only will it hold you back from achieving your goals in life – it will SEVERELY dim your magical power in the craft. Again, witchcraft is about self-empowerment – if you can’t self reflect and see that your life is the result of YOUR decisions – you’ll never become a powerful witch. True power comes from within, remember.

4. Time and effort is essential.

I don’t care what every Jane, Susie and Matilda tell you on the internet. Witchcraft is MORE than a practice – it is truly a way of life. It takes years to master, and I am reluctant to use that word – “master”, because I believe witches who have practiced for 50+ years are still learning. The learning never stops with witchcraft. And I’m sorry, but you can’t hop on the witchcraft bandwagon, buy a couple rose quartz crystals, and expect for your magick to be effective. It takes time and effort. It takes studying and practicing. That’s another problem with society – everyone wants something for little to no effort. Good things come to those who work hard.

5. Now for the good stuff.

I know. I know. This has felt a little heavy on the lecture side, but I’ve learned these things the hard way and feel it’s important to share with those who truly want to be powerful witches. Your magick won’t be powerful if you have no power over yourself and your life. Onto the good stuff – what to practice to hone in on your witchcraft skills.

  • Meditation: have a hard time meditating? It takes practice. Start with guided meditations. There’s a sh*t-ton of free meditations on YouTube to start. Meditation helps with visualization and with entering an alpha (otherworldly) state of mind. KEY essentials in effective spell-casting.
  • Local Land Spirits: yes, true power comes within oneself; HOWEVER, it always helps to have magical aids. Get to know the local land spirits. Get outside and connect with the trees, plants, birds, insects, animals, rivers, etc. Their energy will lend itself to your magick and amplify it times ten! There are witches who say they “don’t work with spirits“. I question if they truly know what a witch is or if they’re just labeling themselves witches for the fun of it.
  • Energy Control: to cast an effective spell and perform a powerful ritual, a witch must learn how to harness and control energy. There are different ways to raise and send energy for effective magick including using your emotions, dancing, sexual energy, visualization, chanting, dreamwork, etc. Practice each one of these and see which comes easiest to you. Then use it over and over again until you master it. You’ll see BIG results with your spells. Many witches cast a spell and wonder why it doesn’t work – one big reason is they put barely a flicker of energy behind it. The universe isn’t going to do everything for you. You have to give your magick the power it needs.
  • Study the why behind everything: it’s important to know the why behind everything we do as witches. If you understand why, your magick will be that much more powerful. Yes, intuition is essential in one’s craft, but if you understand how and why things work the way they do, you’ll know how to fully harness the energy. For example, I can choose a random herb for a spell because it “feels right”; but if I know the folklore and magical properties of that herb, I’ll be able to use that herb in multiple instances for multiple reasons. Do you know why rose quartz is used for self-care? Do you know why it’s important to cast a circle? Etc.
  • Pay attention and be observant: the Other world will communicate in small ways – through nature, mainstream media outlets, random conversations, etc. So when you ask for a sign from the universe, pay attention to your surroundings. Pay attention to your dreams. Be observant of the patterns occurring in your life and how they sync up with the moon’s phases, astrological timing, and seasons. Be open and willing to receive and your power will increase.

Wrapping Up

Are you surprised at my advice? Has any other witch ever told you the truth about where they get their power? Perhaps this is just my experience, but the most powerful witches I’ve known cared for every aspect of themselves, didn’t let others bring them down, owned their own decisions and mistakes, and worked HARD at their craft. If you do these things, I PROMISE you, you will be a powerful witch.

It is SOOOO refreshing to hear what you have to say! I have been practicing a long time and agree with each individual thing here. No ifs, ands or butts!…. Do it, so it do it! ( Ie ” If you Really want to be a Witch, you will find the time, space and energy… You will find a way!)… I once had an event in my shop and was speaking to a group of women. I told them that if they wanted to deepen their relationship with Goddess, that they should begin by caring fore Her temple… Themselves! ….They were literally offended! Craziness!

Christina – Yes, I don’t know how many times I’ve discussed caring for one’s body and had people un-follow or un-friend me. I’m not sure how it’s offensive if I’m trying to help people become healthy and whole.
