Feeling Un-inspired? 5 Ways to Find Inspiration Again in Your Craft
By: Annie Lonsway
I have long struggled with rediscovering my passion or finding inspiration in tough times. After speaking with fellow witches, I found out I’m not the only one. My goal is to educate struggling witches on ways to rediscover their passions, because continuing down a path of no inspiration causes a rift in your magickal workings, as well as in your personal life. If you’re ready to feel inspired in your craft again, check out my suggestions below.
1. Reading & Entertainment
When in doubt, pick up a book. It could be a book you’ve never read before or an old book you feel called to read again. Sometimes when we lack inspiration, a book, pamphlet or blog is the perfect fix to the “inspiration hole” we find ourselves in. You could also try watching a witchy movie or listening to a pagan podcast. There are many entertainment sources for witches to inspire us in our craft.
2. Fellow Witches
Call a witchy friend or post in an online message board. Other witches may have advice for you on how to proceed. However, sometimes surrounding yourself with friends (witch or non-witch) and like-minded individuals is also the perfect cure to feeling un-inspired.
3. Go Outside
I’ve found that most of my inspiration comes from Mother Nature. If you’re feeling lost, go for a long walk and really take in your atmosphere. I would also suggest going outside right before a thunderstorm or inclimate weather, when you can feel the world around you changing. You might even come across tools or ingredients on your walk to use in spell-work. Just don’t forget to ask before taking from nature!
If you do tarot, rune readings, or anything of the like, try this. Maybe your spirit guides will inspire you. Ask for their advice on why your mind is blocked, or how to get your groove back, so to speak. However, keep in mind it may take your guides time to communicate with you. The cards or runes may also offer the reason why your mental block is occurring in the first place. It may allude to stress or trouble in your life that may cause a block of inspiration. If you have better insight in what is going on, it will make solving the problem that much easier. Divination helps us find our inspiration.
5. Quiet Meditation
This goes along with going outside and being in nature. However, if that isn’t your thing, you can accomplish the exact same thing from inside your home or sacred space. Turn on some soft music and sit or lie down. Sometimes taking quiet time to sit, relax, and clear your mind can really help clear those mental blockages.
Give Yourself Time
When all else fails, allow yourself a little bit of time to get back on track. Lack of inspiration happens, you may just be having a bad day and waiting it out is often the ultimate solution. Sometimes a good night’s sleep helps, and you’ll wake up rejuvenated and more inspired than ever.
